Behringer EUroport EPA900 Ultra-Compact 900-Watt 8-Channel Portable PA System Review

Behringer EUroport EPA900 Ultra-Compact 900-Watt 8-Channel Portable PA System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wanted to write a review for this, because we were skeptical about buying it with so little reviews. It's awesome! It's just what it says, so far. We haven't used it on stage, yet, but testing it out has been a lot of fun. Since we're using it for children's entertainment shows, in gymnasiums, the vocal effects won't be very useful. It's very portable, and I love the way it packs up like a suitcase.
If I remember, I'll update this review once we actually use it in a show. Until then, don't be afraid of it, lol. I thought it was too good to be true, but not yet!
We were looking at a couple of different "portable PA" systems and I this one had more power, and less bad reviews than the other, more expensive and more popular set ups... which is why we risked it and went for this one.

Looking for the ultimate portable PA system? The new EPA900 sets up in less than five minutes and delivers articulate, high-fidelity performance. With its twin 450-Watt amplifiers and custom-designed, 2-way loudspeakers, the EPA900 can fill a medium- to large-sized room or project your voice for an incredible distance outdoors. All the accessories you'll need are provided (including a microphone, mic and speaker cables) in a convenient, easy to transport and set up package--and the good news is you don't have to be a sound engineer to run it!

Superb Sound Quality Since we already make some of the best-sounding audio mixers, amplifiers and loudspeakers on the planet, it should come as no surprise that the EPA900 provides far superior sound quality than other products in this class. The two satellite speakers feature custom-designed 10" woofers and 1.35" aluminum-diaphragm compression drivers for incredible fidelity and clarity you might not expect from a loudspeaker system this small!
Control Freak Channels 1 - 4 feature our high-quality Invisible Mic Preamps (IMP), which have been praised for their transparency and headroom. A Level control is provided with a Clip LED, so you can dial in the perfect signal level. We've also provided a Pad switch for those occasions when you have to contend with "hotter" than normal input levels.
+48 Phantom Power Phantom Power is also available, so you can use studio-grade condenser mics. Overall system response is handled by a 7-band stereo graphic EQ, and our proprietary FBQ Feedback Detection System helps you track and eliminate those annoying mic squeals.
Two-Band EQ Additionally, each input channel has a two-band EQ (Bass and Treble), Balance (allowing you to place the signal wherever you want within the stereo image) and an Effects level control. It is important to note that while many of our competitors only provide a reverb switch, the EPA900 features an FX level control per channel with 100 state-of-the-art 24-bit digital FX to choose from. FX can be turned off/on via any standard footswitch (not included).
The Sweet Sound of Reverb, or Delay, or... If you're making a speech, chances are you won't need it, but if you're playing a musical instrument and/or singing, you might want to add some effects. So, we've included a 24-bit stereo FX processor with 100 great-sounding presets including reverb, chorus, flanger, delay, pitch shifter and various multi-effects to sweeten your performance. And if you want to sing along with pre-recorded tapes or CDs, the EPA900's Voice Canceller function can remove virtually all the vocals from music played back through channels 7/8 with the simple flick of a switch.
It's All About Connections The EPA900 comes ready for your input, literally. Channels 1 - 4 accept balanced XLR mics, as well as balanced and unbalanced 1/4-inch line-level sources, such as electronic keyboards and the like. Stereo channels 5/6 and 7/8 accommodate RCA and 1/4" inputs, such as drum machines, keyboard sound modules, etc. All in all, there are enough mic and line-level inputs to handle a small band, and the RCA Tape Out connectors provide the perfect connections for recording your performance.
A Bonus Channel? Want to play some of your favorite tunes at the company picnic? The EPA900 comes equipped with a 1/8" stereo minijack for connecting an MP3 player. Additionally, the Stereo Aux In section features Left and Right 1/4-inch jacks for connecting even more professional audio sources. You don't even have to give up a channel, just control the volume from the player. It's like getting 10 channels for the price of eight!
Everything You Need The EPA900 is a complete system. Just use the built-in wheels to roll it from the car to the stage, set the main unit on a tabletop and deploy the speakers. Connect the high-quality dynamic microphone and hit the power switch--voilá, instant PA system! There is even an onboard storage compartment for the included microphone, accessories and cables. And if you need to add some serious bottom-end to your system, just connect an active subwoofer to the handy Sub Out jack.

My wife is tiny and a teacher.
She was getting hoarse from straining to talk loud enough.
She has been happy with this device.
No more sore throat.
You do have to be careful that the speaker is in FRONT of you facing the crowd or you get feedback squeal.

QSC GX5 Stereo Power Amplifier Review

QSC GX5 Stereo Power Amplifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the QSC GX5 stereo amplifier for use in my band's practice studio. We previously used a Mackie mixer/amp setup and we recently bought an Allen & Heath mixer along with the QSC Amp. We've gone from a little noisy system to an absolutely silent (no hiss, no noise) system even when turned all the way up. It's nice! We A/B'd the amps and while the Mackie is rated to have more power, the QSC is clearly punchier and so much cleaner. I can't say enough about how nice this amp is. I've owned Crown, Crest and Yamaha amps as well and none of them were cleaner than this one.
As for durability, it's still new BUT QSC is offering a 6 year warranty for free on this model (until March 09) so I can't imagine they would do this if these amps were a service problem.
Oh and it looks great in my rack. I read somewhere that the amp is noisy when the cooling fans get going. Knowing this, I cranked the amp full and ran a punchy CD through the mixer full blast (no distortion!) and waited while the amp warmed up. After it reached operating temperature, the fan(s) indeed came on but by no means were they "loud." If I had this amp in a recording studio, I would have the amp in a soundproof room or enclosure as I suppose the fan could be audible during very quiet recording sessions. On the other hand, it is reassuring that I know the fans are indeed working, keeping the rails cool. For live sound, it just isn't a real issue.
Now I'm considering getting another QSC for a monitor amp. I heartily recommend this amplifier.

Whirlwind Imp 2 Transformer Direct Box Review

Whirlwind Imp 2 Transformer Direct Box
Average Reviews:

This is one of the whirlwind DI products. Unique thing is that it doesn't have output level change switch to -20dB or -40dB. I think this product is fixed at -20dB as standard. I am not sure how this product is designed for better quality with fixed output level but its price is pretty higher than that of Whirlwind EDB1. This product($39.99) has no defect as they advertised on their web but I recommend if you want to save money "whirlwind EDB1"($28.77) is better; if you want better quality "Whirlwind director Passive DI"($59.95) is good. This product is between and I don't know its quality. Returning was cumbersome and it works so I am using but next time I will choose one of those two I recommended. That is why I gave 4 star.

Average Reviews:

hmmm... first you will get more than you will pay for this product imagine the clarity sound of a desent studio sound systems, that is what you will hear on the speaker output... well i connected it with my yamaha pa speaker that is programed to 250watts rms to 500watts peak, and im really amazed and pleased to the sound output on it, althogh i dont think it can really push it to 350 watts at the max. and theres a wattage settings that you can read or see on the manual about 4ohms 8ohms to 16ohm thats why it really cant do the 350watts per channel... i just know by hearing it cause i recognized sounds and loud sound ...i also have a LIVE power mixer for my karaoke system that has 225watts per channel and that, i will say its louder but also every amp has its ups and downs and for the behringer pmp2000 this power mixer is better, imagine the clarity of a bose "acoustimas serries"... imagine that, that is what you can hear on a PA speaker... that is how good the sound that this power amp produced... about the down side its not that loud that i expect from a 350watts amp and the low's are not that deep or excelent, but thats maybe the speaker that i am using but still it has a good base but not to compare to a good powered subwoffer or car subwoffers... i will say its just right... but on my own satisfaction i wanted a better bass effect so i think im adding another sub speaker or just mix it with a powered subwoffer...
about the channels i have only tried 3 inputs like the guitar, mic, and cd or dvd sound out. and also media player like zune and cellphone that has a preamp or headphones out...and that it will really hugs your sound loving fellings...
about the mixing like i said on those three , there is no problem at all it dont distort the sound while you were playing it at the same time... what a very nice power mixer because on what it can do i would say you can pay 500 dollars and you will still win on that product of behringer, not to talk about the 99 different echos effects , flanger, chorus, and a lot more but they sounds close... once you tried the first effect or effect 1 and at your 25-30th effect you'll be lost and wont be remembering the difference the sound effect that you used earlier... anyway if you want a close look of what im taking about... check out my video on youtube about pmp2000. WARNING im not a very good camera man but i think ive shown what everybodies want's to hear and see's about this product... just type okeylang47 on the search tab and search for behringer pmp2000 den click... thank you for reading this review to the end ... happy shopping...

If you need superior stereo sound for small club gigs, churches or speeches, but have to keep the outboard gear to a minimum, the 10-channel PMP2000 can really deliver. This 800-Watt mixer has built-in mic preamps and an FX processor, as well as enough power to drive both mains and monitors, thanks to dual 350-Watt onboard power amps.

Massive Mono or Stunning Stereo The PMP2000 gives you the choice of 2 x 350-Watt stereo, 2 x 350-Watt dual mono or 800-Watt bridged mono output. Whether the center of attention happens to be a folk trio, a speech, or a synth-rock band with mind-boggling stereo patches, the PMP2000 can accommodate. This sonic versatility also makes it an excellent choice for churches, where vocals and stereo recordings often share face time.
Classic Control, State-of-the-Art Sound Leave the mic preamps at home, because the quality of sound that was once only available in the studio is ready to go wherever you do. Nine built-in, boutique-caliber mic preamps with switchable +48 V phantom power make it possible to use either dynamic or condenser mics with the PMP2000.
Built-in Digital Effects Processor It's also equipped with a 24-bit FX processor, giving you 100 mind-blowing digital effect presets such as delay, chorus and reverb. Apply them to any channel, as well as to the monitors and main output. In case you're pulling double duty as sound engineer and performer, the FX processor has a footswitch jack for remote on/off.
Changing the Channels The PMP2000 gives you loads of flexibility in accommodating whatever the center of attention happens to be. Channels 1-6 are for mics, bass guitars or other mono instruments. Stereo channels 7-12 are ideal for keyboards. Use the 2TR IN RCA inputs to feed in external stereo signals from CD players or tape decks.
The Ins and Outs REC OUT RCA outputs send line-level signals from the mixer to a recording device, so you can finally get to work on that triple-live album you've always dreamed of. The left and right Output 1/4-inch connectors are there just in case you need to connect more amps. Connect your monitor power amps or active monitor speakers to the MONITOR output.

Behringer EPA40 PA System Review

Behringer EPA40 PA System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought 4 Behringer EPA40 portable PA systems for my company because we were hosting a large open house tour with 4 chartered busses. Turns out modern motor coaches almost always have built-in PA systems, but the Behringers still proved useful for crowd management at frequent stops on our parade of homes.
This is a fairly specialized device. The only competition is athletic bull horns, with poor audio quality, and a very comparable portable PA unit from Fender, the guitar company most famous for Stratocaster guitars (Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton). Frankly, I would have preferred the Fender unit even at about twice the cost, but at 4 units, there was a $400 spread between Behringer and Fender.
I own larger portable AC-powered Fender PA equipment, too, and it is excellent.
These Behringer portable PAs are quite serviceable, but the design is odd, something like a quarter section of watermellon, and the color is weird, too, somewhere between blue and purple. Fender definitely wins for appearance and industrial design. The Behringers are made out of hard plastic, which might tend to shatter if dropped, though mine are lightly used and this is not a big consideration.
The microphones are decent for the intended purpose, but do not use standard CANNON 3-wire mic cables, but rather an unbalanced 1/4" plug. So the mics are dedicated to this device. The mic does contain a mute switch.
Run time is something like 6 or 8 hours, so these units could conceivably be used in classroom sized meetings or break-out sessions.
I don't have one of these devices in front of me right now, but I believe the speaker can be mounted on a standard mic stand, making for a self-contained battery powered mini PA.
The battery is an easily removable lead acid type, which can be replaced locally anywhere at an industrial battery supplier. Probably not a big consideration, but nice to know you can get generic parts locally anytime in the future. The battery is similar to those used in a computer UPS, only smaller and lighter, more suited to the handheld nature of this device.
The Behringer is easily handled by almost anyone, men, women and children. It includes a shoulder strap for walking and talking tours. There is space inside the battery compartment, which opens to the rear, to store the strap internally. Unfortunately, there is no internal storage for the mic, mic cable, or battery charger, which is external inline type, thankfully not a bulky wall wart.
Lack of internal storage along with odd shape means this device has a lot of parts to keep track of. I can't confirm specifics on this battery charger, but one plus I give Behringer is their external power supplies usually have the Behringer name molded into the power supply plastic, or clearly labeled as Behringer. Anymore, with millions of cordless phones, cordless drills, and all sorts of external power supplies, the first order of business for me when opening any manufacturer's box is making sure all the parts are clearly labeled, and if not, making labels with a Brother label machine before things get piled in a lost wire junk box.
In addition to the microphone, the Behringer EPA40 has an auxilary input using a standard 1/8" mono jack. This takes the same size wire used on most Windows PCs, normally color coded pastel green. This is also the same size as a small iPod-sized headphone/earbud jack. The only difference is this input is mono, and so a 2-wire mono Tip-Sleeve type plug should be used, not a stereo 3-wire Tip-Ring-Sleeve (TRS) type connector seen on every headphone and earbud plug on the planet.
What this means, and what my children will at some point discover, is that you can use 2 of these Behringer portable PA systems to create an awesome portable party. Just combine 2 Behringer EPA40 portable PAs (for stereo LEFT and RIGHT channels), 1 iPod, and a cheap splitter cable from Radio Shack, and you have hours of high volume, high quality, portable sound ready to go anywhere, no AC power required. It will beat any dedicated iPod boom box made.

Roland Cube Monitor / PA Review

Roland Cube Monitor / PA
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm frankly sick and tired of showing up for a gig and having my keyboard run through the P.A., thereby in essence causing me to forfeit all control of the instrument to the bandleader (or board op). Still, I've had to concede that the amps I've been using--a Roland KC150, then a KC350--had plenty of power and pop but no sonic attributes that would recommend them above the Bose P.A. set-up the band uses. Then, because I needed a small amp with an XLR connection for use as an emergency P.A., I picked up this relatively new item from Roland, which prominently describes itself as a "monitor" amp (i.e. meant only for the performer's ears).
Was I surprised when I got this thing home and put it through some rounds with a Kurzweil PC2 and SP2. It's little more than a compact brick, but it appears to have the power of my KC150 and, more importantly, in terms of "listenability" it sounds like its several heavens apart from the KC 150 or 350 (those ever-present Roland KC amps will make any piano, including Rolands, sound uninspiring if not boring during the course of a four-hour gig). This latest contender covers the entire piano range, effortlessly, smoothly, providing rich yet responsive bass where its needed and brilliant but not strident highs. Perhaps some would judge the sound a trifle "colored." If so, I'll take the coloration any day to the untempered sounds I've been getting from electric keyboards. The mid-range is tight and controlled, with the upper register "growing out" of it gradually but unmistakably. By contrast, the upper register on the heavy-duty KC amps strikes like a serpent, leaping out of the mix like home-brewed white lightning hitting the palate after it's just gotten accustomed to a vintage Bordeaux.
I even compared this little thing to my previous standard--the Roland Cube 60 that had preceded the KC150 (which has been around too long). This new one was smoother, bending to the bass notes like a gracious willow and springing to the top ones like fresh spring birch. In other words, even the Roland Cube sounded uneven and rough compared to this latest overachiever, which handled the tones of the scale like a single portamento, revealing no holes in any of the registers.
Playing any instrument or amplifier on the job can lead to a judgment radically different from the one made at home. If my instruments (I'm usually playing 2-3) have to be mixed through the P.A., fine. I won't have to listen to them. They'll be processed by this monitor, which will be facing and playing for me before it kicks out the stuff that the bandleader deems worthy of the public's ears.

ION Audio Block Rocker Battery Powered Speaker System for iPod Review

ION Audio Block Rocker Battery Powered Speaker System for iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was looking for a portable speaker to drive my iPod loud enough to be heard in an open hangar.
I read a review of the iPA03 in the 9/15/07 Seattle Times and it looked like this would work. I searched on line and found it listed at Best Buy. I was hoping to try it, and pick it up and go. But it had been listed out of stock for some time with no idea when they could get it.
I tried Amazon and immediately found it in stock and ordered. It arrived within 2 days and also delivered more then I expected.
*It was cheaper then at Best Buy.
*It provides a rich full sound for the iPod. I also tried a portable CD played in the RCA plugs and it sounds great.
*It also charges the iPod when it powered by AC. (it also runs on a self container battery.)
*The karaoke function is and added bonus that's a lot of fun to play with. Just que up the song and back down the volume on the iPod input crank up your volume and you are singing with the stars.
*It's fairly solid, over 40 lbs on wheels with an airport styled wheelies toater pop up handle.
*It also has a plug in to use as a guitar amp.
*The mike could be used as a PA for meetings, playing harmonica with the music or an anywhere speaker system.
On the needs improvement side the white case is almost too nice looking.
I don't know how long I can keep it looking that way in our hangar. I wish it also came in black. It wouldn't show the dirt.
The directions/instructions are worthless.
I saved the review from the Seattle Times 9/15/07 and it was more helpful exploring all the things this unit does.
Overall, I highly recommend this item. It does so many things, and does them well.

PYLE-PRO PWMA230 - 200W VHF Wireless Battery Powered PA System Review

I was trying to decide between this 200watt system or one of the 25-35watt systems. I settled for this one and was impressed with the sound. I have a workshop to present in two weeks and wanted to amp the presentation with something louder than my voice. The test run so far was impressive. I was a bit surprised at how small the system was, but it packed some serious sound and quite versitle. I like it. Its worth the price and looks professional.

I bought this device to haul in a trailer for critical mass (this big crazy bike ride that occurs monthly). I had been experimenting with boomboxes and other battery powered speakers but I wasn't satisfied with the volume I was getting from those devices and the bass response wasn't great. I just got this PA and I haven't tested it for battery longevity or anything yet, but I did plug in my iPod and crank it up and WOW, this thing is seriously loud. Much more boom than any boomboxes I've played with and the bass response is really surprising. It takes a little balance between volume on your device (iPod, etc.) and the volume on the built in mixer, but you can get some very nice, clean sound that is VERY loud with nice deep bass. Haven't played with the mic yet. The cabinet feels pretty solid, but will post a follow up review after the ride next week to let you know how it handles. It's VERY heavy and that'll be a challenge for the bike (I'm not looking forward to hills). The manuals say the battery should last 5 hours, so if that holds true, that should be plenty long enough for the full ride.
One wacky thing is that there is no master volume. There is an independent volume for each input (and there are 5 1/4" inputs (which seems like overkill...do people actually have full bands using this thing?). There are also independent bass and treble levels (and an echo...which I find worthless). My hunch is that they have the volume/gain set at a constant to make the device easier to use (one less knob) but it does strike me as odd that they wouldn't have a master level. There is a noticeable hiss as soon as you power the device on and this may be related to that set gain...not sure. The hiss shouldn't be an issue for most people though. It's not like you're going to be playing very quiet music with this beast. Hissing is covered up by the audio running through it in most cases...if you were using it only for speaking/preaching/lecturing, you MAY find it objectionable. I'm using it for music and cranking it way up, so I really don't mind.
And man...for the price, this is a serious deal. The price made me think it was going to be a total piece of junk with a cheap case and thin bass and that the audio would get distorted as soon as it got a little loud, but I am VERY pleasantly surprised. I'm a little worried about how many charges the battery will take before the lifespan of the charge gets significantly shorter. Ideally there would be a way to swap the battery pack out of it, but that's unlikely. Once the battery pack is dead, it's still useful as a plugin PA, but that's of no use to me (I already have a plugin PA).

This is one of the worst mics I have ever purchased. While holding the mic you can hear your hand rubbing against the mic very loud through the sound system. The sound quality is ok but the noise you hear while holding the mic is unbearable.
