The THD Hot Plate Attenuator is a power attenuator and noise reducer that lets you attain the incredible sound of your amp running at high output and full distortion but at recording, small club, and neighbor-friendly volumes. It also makes a perfect dummy load.A power attenuator is simply a device placed between the speaker output and the speaker cabinet. It acts like a huge master volume control and permits the amp to be turned up most or all the way while absorbing most of the power generated by the amplifier and turning this power into heat. It passes a small part of the power to the speaker.Designed for use strictly with vacuum tube guitar amplifiers, each version of the Hot Plate is optimized for a specific impedance. These inductive loads are frequency-compensated, which means you get the best possible sound for that impedance speaker and amplifier combination. Plus the Hot Plate is no simple power attenuator. It offers many capabilities that make it a great addition to any tone-hungry player\'s arsenal.Built-in Noise ReductionThe THD Hot Plate is the only attenuator on the market with built-in noise reduction to reduce the hiss and hum between notes. Its passive, single-ended noise-reduction system provides approximately 10dB of broadband noise reduction without gating or pumping and without affecting the tone of the amp. A by-product of the noise reduction circuit is that it generates light via a front-mounted bulb as you play. The harder you play, the brighter it glows.Tone ControlsThe Hot Plate is also the only attenuator offering a Bright switch and a Deep switch for tailoring your sound. The Bright switch gives you 2 different high-frequency levels so you can compensate for an overly bright or dull speaker cabinet. The Deep switch offers 2 distinct bass settings to help you fill out the bottom end or reduce the bass in a cabinet with too much low end.Adjustable Line OutTHD Hot Plates also feature a Line Out, which is adjustable by its own volume cont

I use a Line 6 POD X3 live for amp modelling and effects when in the studio and playing live. I have always run the X3L into a Marshall amp and something just wasn't right. The Tech 21 Power Engine is the perfect match for the X3L and provides all the volume I need without altering the tone. Being in Australia I need 240v 50Hz but could only get a 117v 60Hz. I use a step down transformer and works great - no hum, buzz or heating issues. Thinking of getting a second one!

QSC GX5 Stereo Power Amplifier Review

QSC GX5 Stereo Power Amplifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the QSC GX5 stereo amplifier for use in my band's practice studio. We previously used a Mackie mixer/amp setup and we recently bought an Allen & Heath mixer along with the QSC Amp. We've gone from a little noisy system to an absolutely silent (no hiss, no noise) system even when turned all the way up. It's nice! We A/B'd the amps and while the Mackie is rated to have more power, the QSC is clearly punchier and so much cleaner. I can't say enough about how nice this amp is. I've owned Crown, Crest and Yamaha amps as well and none of them were cleaner than this one.
As for durability, it's still new BUT QSC is offering a 6 year warranty for free on this model (until March 09) so I can't imagine they would do this if these amps were a service problem.
Oh and it looks great in my rack. I read somewhere that the amp is noisy when the cooling fans get going. Knowing this, I cranked the amp full and ran a punchy CD through the mixer full blast (no distortion!) and waited while the amp warmed up. After it reached operating temperature, the fan(s) indeed came on but by no means were they "loud." If I had this amp in a recording studio, I would have the amp in a soundproof room or enclosure as I suppose the fan could be audible during very quiet recording sessions. On the other hand, it is reassuring that I know the fans are indeed working, keeping the rails cool. For live sound, it just isn't a real issue.
Now I'm considering getting another QSC for a monitor amp. I heartily recommend this amplifier.

I bought this amp at a bargain price and thought that I may resell it. I'm very fussy about amps as all I've had until the last year or so were pre CBS Fenders. A Princeton Reverb, A Deluxe Reverb and a Twin Reverb with EV SRO speakers. Well, this Marshall can't be a Fender vintage tube amp but it is a really decent amp. And the cost of tube amps is nuts. I decided to keep this amp. It has some nice clean sounds, which is what I'm after. I also use a Fender solid state and I find that these amps sound pretty good. Not like the solid state amps of the 60s. Standell solid states or the Silvertone 6 x 10"? :

Line 6 Spider Valve HD100 Review

Line 6 Spider Valve HD100
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This sucker sounds really great. And it's true what they say about tube amps. You aren't really hearing it unless you crank it. I cranked it, and it was the greatest thing I've ever heard (I played a metal chord, then turned it from super loud to very low, and I could progressively hear the tone go from amazingly thick and rich, to crackly and thin. so only buy this if you plan on playing it LOUD). Put it on the Metal or Insane settings, and it's just nuts. However, it broke the next day, so I had to send it off for repair to a "local" service center (where Line 6 made me pay 30 bucks to ship. thanks L6). It's been over a month and they finally got around to checking it out. They told me the tubes were faulty. So great. Now they say another 2 weeks to order new tubes and test to see if there are any other problems. Nice work, Line 6. BTW, my POD X3's headphone jack only outputs a MONO signal now. How great is that? Talk about quality! (the presets suck too btw. no one uses those. and you can't customize them like you can on the POD X3, but thankfully, you don't need them. the main channel knob has all you need!!)
Other than that, this amp sounds AMAZING. A shame about the faulty tubes in my unit, but I hope when I get it back, it will last longer than a few minutes of it cranked. And no, not crazy cranked, just normal cranked.
The matching cab sounds amazing btw.

When I first saw this amp, I thought, man, 5 watts ain't going to cut it. When I play on the street I use a 50 watt Crate Limo (a great amp, by the way). I couldn't understand why Roland would put out such an under powered product.
Now I understand. It is a LOUD little amp. I'm amazed. And it sounds so good. When I first got it, I plugged in a guitar and couldn't stop playing. The amp modeling and the effects are wonderful.
This amp is aimed at solo performers and street musicians, and would make a nice practice amp. This amp works well for the steet and small venues. If you're a typical loud, obnoxious guitar player, you might want to look elsewhere for a product that more suits your needs.

QSC GX3 Stereo Power Amplifier Review

QSC GX3 Stereo Power Amplifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I started looking around for a performance power amp that was in between crown and Behringer. Now while I consider Crown the holy grail of power amps, I didn't feel like spending the cash for the Harley-Davidson of power amps. So when looking, I actually took a look at parts express and their most popular power amps. To me, the majority of the people that visit that site have their head screwed on straight and care about quality products. While a lot of the reviews showed promise for Behringer, my cousin and I currently employ a tube based preamp in my studio, and while it worked flawlessly in the beginning, all the pot's on my preamp are now fuzzy and buzzy. His preamp sucked from day one, buzzing at 60Hz, requiring post process filtering which saps the nuances out of the recording. To sum up my opposition to Behringer, I didn't feel like getting a product that worked well for a year or two, though I just bought a Behringer 8-channel mixer to go with it ($60 and not regretting it yet, but we'll see)
Hooking it up to my 6.5" jbl studio s26-ii's, I was blown away by its punch and clarity. Mind you, its normally being driven by an 80W/ch Onkyo (0.08%THD). The speakers had more dynamic to the sound, and it was absolutely fantastic. I had done this while I awaited the arrival of my MTX PA speakers.
I bought a pair of MTX TP2400 to go along with it. They are definitely not the greatest speaker out there, but they put out the high SPL sound I was looking for in a live performance. The amplifier drives them pretty well, though I cant help but be slightly disappointed with the result. I am confident that the amp is not the culprit though due to how well it has driven my other smaller studio speakers.
I think these cheap PA speakers really show the beauty of the amp though, Its speaker/clipping protection made the music stay at uninterrupted high levels. The other great thing is the 6 year transferable warranty. While I don't really care too much about warranties, Behringer's abysmal 1 year warranty pushed me over to QSC. That's pretty much saying what I think about my current products, they know its too risky to warranty a product longer than a year.
I hope you find this info useful, because these guys deserve every sale they get.

Behringer EPA40 PA System Review

Behringer EPA40 PA System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought 4 Behringer EPA40 portable PA systems for my company because we were hosting a large open house tour with 4 chartered busses. Turns out modern motor coaches almost always have built-in PA systems, but the Behringers still proved useful for crowd management at frequent stops on our parade of homes.
This is a fairly specialized device. The only competition is athletic bull horns, with poor audio quality, and a very comparable portable PA unit from Fender, the guitar company most famous for Stratocaster guitars (Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton). Frankly, I would have preferred the Fender unit even at about twice the cost, but at 4 units, there was a $400 spread between Behringer and Fender.
I own larger portable AC-powered Fender PA equipment, too, and it is excellent.
These Behringer portable PAs are quite serviceable, but the design is odd, something like a quarter section of watermellon, and the color is weird, too, somewhere between blue and purple. Fender definitely wins for appearance and industrial design. The Behringers are made out of hard plastic, which might tend to shatter if dropped, though mine are lightly used and this is not a big consideration.
The microphones are decent for the intended purpose, but do not use standard CANNON 3-wire mic cables, but rather an unbalanced 1/4" plug. So the mics are dedicated to this device. The mic does contain a mute switch.
Run time is something like 6 or 8 hours, so these units could conceivably be used in classroom sized meetings or break-out sessions.
I don't have one of these devices in front of me right now, but I believe the speaker can be mounted on a standard mic stand, making for a self-contained battery powered mini PA.
The battery is an easily removable lead acid type, which can be replaced locally anywhere at an industrial battery supplier. Probably not a big consideration, but nice to know you can get generic parts locally anytime in the future. The battery is similar to those used in a computer UPS, only smaller and lighter, more suited to the handheld nature of this device.
The Behringer is easily handled by almost anyone, men, women and children. It includes a shoulder strap for walking and talking tours. There is space inside the battery compartment, which opens to the rear, to store the strap internally. Unfortunately, there is no internal storage for the mic, mic cable, or battery charger, which is external inline type, thankfully not a bulky wall wart.
Lack of internal storage along with odd shape means this device has a lot of parts to keep track of. I can't confirm specifics on this battery charger, but one plus I give Behringer is their external power supplies usually have the Behringer name molded into the power supply plastic, or clearly labeled as Behringer. Anymore, with millions of cordless phones, cordless drills, and all sorts of external power supplies, the first order of business for me when opening any manufacturer's box is making sure all the parts are clearly labeled, and if not, making labels with a Brother label machine before things get piled in a lost wire junk box.
In addition to the microphone, the Behringer EPA40 has an auxilary input using a standard 1/8" mono jack. This takes the same size wire used on most Windows PCs, normally color coded pastel green. This is also the same size as a small iPod-sized headphone/earbud jack. The only difference is this input is mono, and so a 2-wire mono Tip-Sleeve type plug should be used, not a stereo 3-wire Tip-Ring-Sleeve (TRS) type connector seen on every headphone and earbud plug on the planet.
What this means, and what my children will at some point discover, is that you can use 2 of these Behringer portable PA systems to create an awesome portable party. Just combine 2 Behringer EPA40 portable PAs (for stereo LEFT and RIGHT channels), 1 iPod, and a cheap splitter cable from Radio Shack, and you have hours of high volume, high quality, portable sound ready to go anywhere, no AC power required. It will beat any dedicated iPod boom box made.

Fender(R) 235-0500-000 G-DEC(R) 30 Guitar Amp Review

Fender(R) 235-0500-000 G-DEC(R) 30 Guitar Amp

This is a handy and useful amplifier for learning, teaching and for small gigs. Cannot really compare this to a $2000 amplifier, but for the price paid, can't beat the value and sound tone quality. The onboard accompaniment are handy while practicing especially for timing practice. There are numerous effects like echo, delay, reverb, distortion, flanger and tremolo, which can be adjusted easily and quickly. The resulting guitar tones are great, with several amplifier emulation like the jangle of British amps, the clean tones of Marshalls, and more. The onboard chromatic tuner is very handy. Build quality is excellent, with the knobs and buttons feeling solid and have firm tactile action. The dual inputs make it easy for connecting an external drum machine for advanced practicing, or to connect a second guitar for jamming or teaching. The firmware is user updateable via a computer MIDI interface and software updates and tone customization can be done using that interface. Overall, I am happy with this purchase and this unit is an essential part of my daily practice now.
