Bose L1 Model II System Single Bass Package Review

Bose L1 Model II System Single Bass Package
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have worked as a mobile DJ since 1980 in the Pittsburgh area, and for most of that time, I used two Bose® 802 speakers (the pro version of the 901s) and the 302 acoustimass bass enclosure (which weighs 115 pounds). There was never a doubt that I had the best sound possible.
However, I tore a rotator cuff lifting the 302 into the car a couple of years ago; the system was just too much to load and unload, what with the speakers, two amplifiers, mixer, etc.
In January, I discovered the Bose® L1 Model II sound system. It is light, compact, and efficient, and it delivers incomparable sound that rivals the 802/302 system pushing 1600 watts but without the weight and clutter of cables, etc.
For DJ applications, I highly recommend getting two B1 bass units to deliver the kind of bass that carries into the room and which would be suitable for dancing.
If you are using the system as a single performer, then one B1 unit might be sufficient. However, my experienced friends have told me that this system does not work as well as some other systems with DRUMS. For that use, you might want to consider a different set of speakers, especially subs.
When I set up my L1 with two B1 bass units at a venue, the first "test" song I play is Billy Joel's "Innocent Man." If you're familiar with it, you know it starts off with dynamic bass. Then the high register kicks in, and the L1 system produces such spectacular sound that at every single gig I've done with them, someone--waitresses, bus boys, caterers, hall managers--comes over immediately to rave about the sound. One of the most frequent comments is "I can't believe how CLEAR the sound is!"
For what I do (weddings, corporate parties, reunions, etc.), it's the ideal system. Cocktail hour and dinner music, which have to be low enough to allow conversations to be carried on at tables, was always a problem. In the past, people near the speakers thought it was too loud, while people in the back of the room couldn't hear the music clearly at all. Now, though, I can set the volume, and that volume is pretty much the same if you're standing 10 feet from the speakers or 75 feet from the speakers. There is a very slight falloff in the sound volume after the first 100 feet, but even at that, it still carries well. Even though I've been doing this for several months now, I'm still amazed at how even the sound coverage is.
When it comes to the dance music, the volume doesn't have to be as "loud" as it had to be with the 802/302 system. When I fired those speakers up, there was always a "hole" on the dance floor in front of the speakers because the volume was so high it would make your ears bleed (OK, so it wasn't that loud--but it was loud!). With the L1 system, the sound carries so well that the volume doesn't have to be set at the "make their ears bleed" level. I can set it for the "right" sound for the dance floor, and it carries all the way across the room at the right volume. And people dance right next to the speakers. I was surprised to see that, to tell you the truth, and I even took a picture in May of the parents of the bride dancing about 2-3 feet from the speaker system.
A nice feature for me is the fact that the amplifiers are built into the pedestal base unit that holds the cylindrical tower (two speaker sections that fit together rather securely in a seven-foot high tower). The amplifiers are created by Bose precisely for these speakers. The cylindrical tower contains 24 matched speakers that are placed at specific angles within the tower to create that 178-degree horizontal "throw" of the speakers. The amplifiers sense how many B1 units are connected and properly direct sound and power to them.
Lots of "stats geeks" have trouble with Bose® speakers because they are into amplifier wattage, speaker capacity in terms of "power," etc. However, if you understand that Bose is engineering the sound of these speakers in a new way, then you'll understand that the sound is not directly reliant on some of the "old" measures of powering speakers. The bottom line is the sound your ears hear, which is the truest test of any speaker system.
If you buy this system, I recommend the Bose® ToneMatch® audio engine to go with it. It has three microphone inputs that have universal inputs (either XLR or 1/4 inch jacks), and a fourth input that accepts two 1/4 inch jacks (either balanced or unbalanced). Stereo sources can be connected here, so that solves the "stereo iPod" problem mentioned by another reviewer. There is also another connection, a direct USB connection, which will accept sound (either stereo or mono) from a computer. I use my laptop and a firewire drive, and all the music comes through the USB port into the ToneMatch® audio engine. Another benefit of the ToneMatch® audio engine is the large number of "presets." The presets will tailor the sound of the system to fit various microphones; a wide variety of instruments; and pre-recorded (DJ) sound sources. There is a "Low Volume" preset that is nice for dinner music, for example, and a "high volume" preset for dance music that eliminates the tinny highs and midrange, and the sometimes muddy bass sound that is often produced by sound systems when they are pushing the higher power outputs.
I recently did an outdoor venue for a Car Show and had to cover a huge area with sound. I used one Bose® L1 Model II with two B1 units and one Bose® L1 Classic system with two B1 units (I picked that up "used" as a backup for the Model II and for use in larger venues). I pointed one system up the hill into the wind and the other system downhill with the wind behind it. The "uphill" sound carried very clearly for about 70 yards, after which it was audible but not crystal clear. The "downhill" sound carried 120 yards with no hint of falling off. That answered my question, "Will this system provide enough sound for a large venue?" Last year I played that same venue with my Bose® 802/302 system (1600 watts pushing it), and the comments I heard this year were that the sound was much better this year and it was clear all over the area. Take it for what it's worth.
Bottom line evaluation for who should/can best use this system:
* For single performers, this is outstanding.
* For DJs, this is outstanding.
* For live bands trying to use more than one or two performers per system, this may not be your best choice unless you get one system per performer.
* For drums, this might not be the best audio solution unless you have four B1 units.
* For small venues, this system may have no equal.
* For larger venues, an additional system might be required to cover the entire area.
* While I have not had this concern, other DJs have reported that it is helpful to elevate the system to get better "throw" over a crowded dance floor. (Lots of bodies will absorb sound.)
Bottom line evaluation for the system itself:
* For portability, sound quality, and ease of setup, this is outstanding.
* For clarity and range of sound, this is outstanding.
* For bass reproduction at high sound levels in very large venues, this system is average with two B1s; below average with one B1; and slightly above average with four B1s.
Overall, I give the Bose® L1 Model II system (with TWO B1 modules) the top rating, 5 out of 5.

The PRO MIXER DJX700 is a professional 5-channel DJ mixer with great features for club-worn veterans and starry-eyed newbies alike.

Five-Channel DJ Mixer The DJX700 features four dual input stereo channels, and 1 ULN microphone channel with "on air" switch. A dedicated effects loop is ideal for connection of external devices (sampler, reverb processor etc.), and the adjustable crossfader curve lets you adjust for all mixing styles.
Three-Band Kill EQ Dial it in with a three-band kill EQ (-32 dB) and precise level meters with peak hold function on each channel.
ULTRAGLIDE Faders The faders are the heart and soul of every mixer. With their 500,000 cycles life expectancy, Behringer's high-grade 45-mm ULTRAGLIDE faders outperform standard faders more than twenty-fold. VCA (Voltage Controlled Amplifier) technology goes hand in hand with our faders--audio signal does not run directly through them; instead, the faders only provide a control voltage to the VCAs. The advantage: practically no audio noise caused by mechanical wear.
Built-In Digital Effects Your crowd will be astounded by the 47 breathtaking digital effect presets in 24-bit quality: delay, reverb, flanger, filter, panner, ultrabass, exciter, Vinylizer, voice changer and more. Your audience will be astounded, but they'll never have to know your secret.
Track-Matching Tools Matching tracks is an art in itself. It takes countless nights of practice before you can truly say you have it under your belt. With the intelligent BPM counter, Behringer take a lot of the guesswork out. Features like SYNC LOCK and BEAT ASSIST help you seamlessly align two tracks without having to rely solely on your ears.
Surround Function Behringer also gives you the awesome XPQ 3D surround function. It widens the stereo image and adds life and transparency to your sound--it's a great way to put a unique finishing touch to your sound and make it feel bigger and wider.
Low-Noise Preamps You work either with CDs or vinyl--sometimes both--and they all induce their own noise into the mix. The last thing you want is to pile even more mixer-originated noise on top of that. That's why all of Behringer's DJ mixers incorporate the improved ULN (Ultra Low-Noise) preamps: what comes in comes out, with nothing added. So you get maximum headroom, minimal noise and ultra-transparent sound.

Behringer EUroport EPA900 Ultra-Compact 900-Watt 8-Channel Portable PA System Review

Behringer EUroport EPA900 Ultra-Compact 900-Watt 8-Channel Portable PA System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wanted to write a review for this, because we were skeptical about buying it with so little reviews. It's awesome! It's just what it says, so far. We haven't used it on stage, yet, but testing it out has been a lot of fun. Since we're using it for children's entertainment shows, in gymnasiums, the vocal effects won't be very useful. It's very portable, and I love the way it packs up like a suitcase.
If I remember, I'll update this review once we actually use it in a show. Until then, don't be afraid of it, lol. I thought it was too good to be true, but not yet!
We were looking at a couple of different "portable PA" systems and I this one had more power, and less bad reviews than the other, more expensive and more popular set ups... which is why we risked it and went for this one.

Looking for the ultimate portable PA system? The new EPA900 sets up in less than five minutes and delivers articulate, high-fidelity performance. With its twin 450-Watt amplifiers and custom-designed, 2-way loudspeakers, the EPA900 can fill a medium- to large-sized room or project your voice for an incredible distance outdoors. All the accessories you'll need are provided (including a microphone, mic and speaker cables) in a convenient, easy to transport and set up package--and the good news is you don't have to be a sound engineer to run it!

Superb Sound Quality Since we already make some of the best-sounding audio mixers, amplifiers and loudspeakers on the planet, it should come as no surprise that the EPA900 provides far superior sound quality than other products in this class. The two satellite speakers feature custom-designed 10" woofers and 1.35" aluminum-diaphragm compression drivers for incredible fidelity and clarity you might not expect from a loudspeaker system this small!
Control Freak Channels 1 - 4 feature our high-quality Invisible Mic Preamps (IMP), which have been praised for their transparency and headroom. A Level control is provided with a Clip LED, so you can dial in the perfect signal level. We've also provided a Pad switch for those occasions when you have to contend with "hotter" than normal input levels.
+48 Phantom Power Phantom Power is also available, so you can use studio-grade condenser mics. Overall system response is handled by a 7-band stereo graphic EQ, and our proprietary FBQ Feedback Detection System helps you track and eliminate those annoying mic squeals.
Two-Band EQ Additionally, each input channel has a two-band EQ (Bass and Treble), Balance (allowing you to place the signal wherever you want within the stereo image) and an Effects level control. It is important to note that while many of our competitors only provide a reverb switch, the EPA900 features an FX level control per channel with 100 state-of-the-art 24-bit digital FX to choose from. FX can be turned off/on via any standard footswitch (not included).
The Sweet Sound of Reverb, or Delay, or... If you're making a speech, chances are you won't need it, but if you're playing a musical instrument and/or singing, you might want to add some effects. So, we've included a 24-bit stereo FX processor with 100 great-sounding presets including reverb, chorus, flanger, delay, pitch shifter and various multi-effects to sweeten your performance. And if you want to sing along with pre-recorded tapes or CDs, the EPA900's Voice Canceller function can remove virtually all the vocals from music played back through channels 7/8 with the simple flick of a switch.
It's All About Connections The EPA900 comes ready for your input, literally. Channels 1 - 4 accept balanced XLR mics, as well as balanced and unbalanced 1/4-inch line-level sources, such as electronic keyboards and the like. Stereo channels 5/6 and 7/8 accommodate RCA and 1/4" inputs, such as drum machines, keyboard sound modules, etc. All in all, there are enough mic and line-level inputs to handle a small band, and the RCA Tape Out connectors provide the perfect connections for recording your performance.
A Bonus Channel? Want to play some of your favorite tunes at the company picnic? The EPA900 comes equipped with a 1/8" stereo minijack for connecting an MP3 player. Additionally, the Stereo Aux In section features Left and Right 1/4-inch jacks for connecting even more professional audio sources. You don't even have to give up a channel, just control the volume from the player. It's like getting 10 channels for the price of eight!
Everything You Need The EPA900 is a complete system. Just use the built-in wheels to roll it from the car to the stage, set the main unit on a tabletop and deploy the speakers. Connect the high-quality dynamic microphone and hit the power switch--voilá, instant PA system! There is even an onboard storage compartment for the included microphone, accessories and cables. And if you need to add some serious bottom-end to your system, just connect an active subwoofer to the handy Sub Out jack.

Numark NS7 DJ Turntable Controller with Serato ITCH Software Review

Numark NS7 DJ Turntable Controller with Serato ITCH Software
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Coming from a turntable and vinyl background, I was and still am excited about this product. I purchased it and have been very content. The unit is about 35lbs. and VERY solid. I have to get use to scratching on it compared to turntables. The platter should have been made 9" but I'm taking it in stride. All crossfaders have a quality feel, no static and the scratch curves feel as good or better than my Rane TTM57sl.
My only complaint is that Numark did not future-proof this unit with effect buttons. I find the software (Serato iTch) and mixing is (CURRENTLY) a little more boring than Serato Scratchlive and my 57 mixer. Serato is supposedly working on effects and making iTch's software closer in features to Scratchlive.
I purchased the Numark case with the unit and REALLY love doing mobile gigs now. No more individual TT cases and mixer cases. No more RCA and ground wires and at least 15 minutes less setup time. I'm saving close to 70 lbs. in travel weight too. One bit of advice is to be wary of using PCs with this unit. I have a Unibody Macbook Pro 2.66Ghz but struggled making a Core2-Duo 2.2Ghz 4GB ram PC work "glitch-free" with the NS7 and iTch. It had quirky behavior while tracks were playing, random stops and various audio dropouts. Many PCs will (by default) have IRQ sharing which can hose up USB connectivity (the main source of NS7 communication to your laptop) if there are conflicts.
In troubleshooting, I had to insure bluetooth, anti-virus, firewalls, NIC cards, screen savers, wireless Network cards, on-board video and all sorts of services were disabled on the PC (a TOTAL administrative nightmare!) and still ended up having to run the latency at 5ms or greater for decent performance. My mic had major echo delay with this setting so enough was enough.
I purchased the MBPro and have not had a SINGLE glitch since. My latency is at 1ms AND I can run apps in the background while DJ'ing without problems. I highly recommend the NS7 (with adequately powered MAC) for any mobile DJ.

Includes Serato ITCH DJ software, fully pre-mapped
Audiophile-grade audio circuitry with mic and line inputs, system and cue outs
Extensive loop, cue, and track-access controls

Rugged, all-metal construction
High quality, replaceable, customizable CP-PRO crossfader and D-TYPE line faders
Support for Whitelabel.net files in ITCH
Mix using either 33 RPM or 45 RPM speeds

Perfect Feel The NS7 has two seven-inch, motorized, high-torque aluminum turntable platters, and the turntable controls feature modern and classic settings that alter the feel to model the feel you prefer. Seven-inch, legit vinyl records with 45 RPM adapters sit on real slipmats--no simulation.
Solid, rugged, rubberized buttons and knobs compliment a high precision, replaceable CP-PRO crossfader and D-TYPE line faders for an unquestionably high-quality feel. The CP-PRO digital-VCA crossfader has a solid feel that is smooth and rigid. Like the crossfader, the D-TYPE digital-VCA line faders are replaceable. The crossfader offers contour adjust and reverse adjustment, enabling you to customize its operation.
System Simplicity Forget the mouse and the keyboard. The NS7 renders ITCH software perfectly simple to operate, with its click knob and large, backlit buttons navigating though your music library. You'll spend less time looking at the screen and more time enjoying performing thanks to the visual feedback you get from NS7's more-than 100 LEDs and more-than 100 hands-on controls.
A single USB cable between NS7 and your Mac or PC is all you need to send audio and data back and forth. The NS7 has onboard audio outputs so it's the only piece of gear you need to connect to the PA system or powered speakers. It outputs 24-bit, 44.1 kHz digital audio to the sound system on XLRs and RCAs. The front panel contains mic input, RCA line input, and both 1/4" and 1/8" headphone outputs with volume control.
The NS7 comes with an integrated laptop stand that supplies safe, secure mounting for your laptop. You can use an ultra-small space because NS7 elevates your laptop off the table.
Precision Control The NS7 sends control information over USB at more than ten times the standard MIDI rate. This innovative communication technique yields extremely high-precision, low-latency control.
There's nothing like dropping the needle on a record for quickly locating a point in the track, and with Strip Search--the unique virtual-needle-drop touch strip--you can locate a point instantly within the track using the on-screen waveform
Five hot-cue-assign buttons on each deck digitally mark your cues on the track. These marker points are recallable in ITCH and Scratch LIVE, and you can load Scratch LIVE cue points in ITCH.
Each deck offers an extensive Serato-style loop section, and you can choose between manual and auto-loop functions and an automatic BPM analyzer further assists loop makers. Creating automatic smart loops of any measure length is a breeze, and you can mutilate and modify to heart's content with a variety of controls such as Doubling, Halving, Shift, and manual controls.
Audio Quality The NS7 contains a host of professional audio connectors and a multichannel, 24-bit USB digital-audio interface. The high-definition post-mix analog audio output features a minimized circuit path with containing only one audiophile-grade bipolar capacitor. This optimized design maximizes phase coherence, ensuring that audio is tight and punchy.
Serato ITCH Software IF you use Scratch LIVE, you'll become quickly familiar with Serato ITCH. Because ITCH doesn't require a timecode interface, your system can be as simple as, say, NS7 and your computer. Since ITCH makes timecode a thing of the past, you won't need to worry about needles skipping or vinyl wearing out. You can load your Scratch LIVE crates, loops, presets, and cue points seamlessly in ITCH. The NS7 also works with most other MIDI DJ software and supports iTunes.
ITCH handles audio processing and mixing including channel fading, EQ, crossfading and track trim are processed for outstanding control and management of your tracks, ease of recording your set, clip-proof gain management, and BPM calculation using the power of your computer's processor.
The History function in ITCH keeps a comprehensive record of every track played and exports sessions from your history to 'txt', 'csv', or 'm3u'. ITCH also has a Loop Roll function that provides a looping effect where the playhead jumps back to normal time when you release the loop. Built-in key support ensures that ITCH reads key tags from MP3 files and displays them in the 'key' column in your library.

M-Audio Torq Xponent Advanced DJ Performance/Production System Review

M-Audio Torq Xponent Advanced DJ Performance/Production System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
So after scouring the internet for reviews of the xponent, and having used its cousin the Torq Mixlab and getting down the basics of CPU based DJing, I am proud to say that I couldn't be happier with the Xponent. I got it a few weeks ago, have a Macbook that runs great with it, and have so far had no problems whatsoever. The software is fast and loads my itunes library (over 16k songs) in about 30 seconds. One of the best features of the Torq software is how it figures out (or you can override) the beat of each song and SAVES it. This means that when you're spinning, you can sort by BPM and see the 20 songs that are close in BPM that you have used before. This makes song selection a pleasure!
All the switches and knobs are very responsive, and as a person who basically started DJing (beatmatching, mixing, cueing) a month ago, I feel right at home here. The loop features are easy to use and drop in, and the sampler is very powerful and easy to use. I just spun a big house party with this thing a week ago and it went great! The effects are fun, and using the mouse pad like a Chaos Pad allows for some cool remixing on the fly. I find that scratching is easy to do and there are various settings to determine how sensitive the wheels are.
All in all, this is a great product for a novice or someone who likes to pick music and wants to get into real mixing. If you're the person always holding the iPod at the party but want more control, this is definitely a great place to start (and as far as I'm concerned, finish). As for all the haters of digital DJing, I don't really care, its much easier than bringing vinyl and remembering BPMs and you can plug in someone at the party's ipod and use their music in real time. I find that the Xponent is extremely versatile, perfect for a beginner or seasoned DJ alike, and it and its grandchildren will be leading us into the future of DJing. Hope this helps, there is a lack of people talking about the Xponent and its a truly great device that has allowed me to finally do something I've wanted to do for years, but I've never had the resources to get set up with vinyl and dj lessons.
Cheers!
-DP

Akai APC40 Abelton Controller Review

Akai APC40 Abelton Controller
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been drooling over this since it was announced, and I am so happy that I finally broke down and bought one. It's a shame that there are no reviews up yet, so let me be the first to say that this controller is amazing. Make sure that you erase any previous midi mapping that you've done and then restart Ableton, and you'll find that it has perfectly automapped itself. At first I thought that it was a little strange that there's no manual included... but after five minutes, I realized that it DOESN'T NEED A MANUAL. That's just how intuitive it is, from top to bottom.
The hardware itself is up to usual Akai standards: the knobs and faders feel weighty and responsive. This thing is both larger and thinner than I thought it would be, but after playing around with it the size feels perfect. The two-way communication is killer- just drop an audio clip into Live and it will instantly appear on the grid, color-coded to match its status. Recording and triggering loops couldn't be easier, and the entire interface perfectly emulates what you're used to seeing on the screen.
In the upper right-hand corner you have control over the pan and sends A through C for tracks 1-8, which is really nice. My only complaint is that I would have preferred to have it become all the sends for whatever track is highlighted, but I'll get used to the new workflow. Part of what makes Ableton Live great is that it accommodates so many different styles of music, so making a universal controller for the program was a bit of a challenge. Akai really stepped up and once you get your hands on it, you'll see what all the hype is about: this really is the be-all and end-all of hardware for the program.
One downside I've found is that navigating the plugins can be sort of clunky. First you highlight a track and then the knobs in the lower right are assigned to the first plugin you've placed there. Then you use the left and right buttons to scroll through each unit, and when you do the knobs reassign themselves to control the appropriate effects. I find that having to click through them all is sort of difficult, but there's nothing stopping me from using the mouse like I used to. I guess the only thing that is stopping me from handing out a 5-star rating is that the APC40 sort of forces you to use the workflow they've designed. Remapping the controls isn't difficult, but everything is laid-out and labeled in such a way that it sort of corrals you into getting used to doing things their way.
This review is starting to look a little long, so I'll just sum it up: I absolutely love this thing. I wish I had picked it up sooner and if you are AT ALL considering this purchase, just do it already. Well-constructed, well-programmed, and absolutely worth the money. Like me, you're probably used to using an assortment of controllers and you're wondering if you need to spend the cash. Well, this thing will replace all of those and more, and you'll quickly get used to the layout. Just do it!

Designed to be a powerful, intuitive controller for electronic music performance artists, DJs, hip-hop producers and traditional musicians using Ableton Live on stage and in the studio, the Akai APC40 transforms your experience from one of constructing tracks with software on a computer to one of fluid, effortless, musical creation.

Works with standalone editions of Ableton Live
Works with most MIDI recording, sequencing, and performance software
USB plug-and-play connection for Mac and PC
Premium controller with rugged, metal chassis

Direct Design Because Akai Professional and Ableton designed the APC40 specifically for Ableton Live, you don't need to map its controls to talk to the software. Just connect your laptop to the APC40 via USB--thanks to its plug and play capabilities, you won't need to install any drivers. It comes pre-mapped for instant use with Ableton Live software, so if you're new to it, you'll find using the APC40 to be easy to get around on. And if you're an experienced Live user, you'll be happy to note that you can custom-map every single knob, button, and fader on the APC40 to completely customize the controls for the way you like to work.
Virtual View Because of the bidirectional communication between the APC40 and Ableton Live software, the APC40 can receive feedback from the software and display it on its clip matrix of 40 triggers and on LED rings surrounding each knob. The clip matrix gives you an instant view of clip status: what's loaded, what's playing, and what's being recorded. Each state displays on the matrix in a different color so you can get a quick picture of clip state. You can shift your clip focus and get an overview of the clips you have loaded for your set.
The APC40 has 16 knobs, each surrounded by a ring of LEDs. These LED rings make it easy to see your settings on dark stages, indicating the currently selected parameters' values.
Premium Feel The APC40 is built with a rugged, metal chassis and slip-proof rubber detailing. All of the knobs and faders are solid and precise for pinpoint performance. It even features a high quality, replaceable crossfader for transitioning between clips and loops assigned to "A" or "B."
Creative Control The APC40 comes with Ableton Live Akai Professional APC40 Edition software, which is fully functional for performance and production. Owners of standalone editions of Ableton Live 7 or 8 can also work seamlessly with the APC40. Live 7 with the latest automatic update has full support for the APC40 and all versions of Live 8 are APC40-ready.
The APC40 has two banks of eight knobs. The first set controls Global parameters so you'll always have instant access to your main sends, pans, and other essentials. The second bank of eight knobs is dynamically reassigned to the Track you select. You can control eight track parameters at a time, and as you switch channels, the Track knobs follow your focus. For example, you might be working with the Beat Decoder on track two. When you switch to track four, the eight Track knobs that you had been controlling the Beat Decoder with are now controlling the Flangeverb on track four. You'll even notice that the settings for each knob load on the light rings so you'll immediately see each knob's status.
The APC40 also enables special clip-status views and feedback that only the APC40's matrix can display. The matrix is not limited to only 40 clips: you can scroll and shift, enabling you to access, control, and perform with an unlimited number of cells.
The APC40 has a wide range of controllers. The eight Global knobs can access four banks of controls; the eight Track knobs control nine different track parameters each. This gives you a massive total of 72 controllers that are dynamically reassigned each time you switch tracks. Channel faders, bus faders, and a crossfader give you smooth control of key values. You have even more control power with special controls including Tap Tempo, Tempo Nudge, record enables, solo/cues, and two assignable footswitch inputs.

Hercules DJ Console MK2 Review

Hercules DJ Console MK2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just took it out of the box. 30 minutes to setup with not a many problems, took like 7 USB recognitions. I never used the first one but this one is quite awesome. I am not a pro, just guy with a lotta mp3s and a dream.
Long story short, you can scratch your mp3s and this makes the system for me. It might not be pro quality but then again you are spending 250 bucks and you aren't buying all that vinyl. Almost on the financial perspective along I would pretty much give it the 5 stars.
Okay, I have been futzing with it for like 1 month now. It freakin rocks. I just did my NYE party with it and everyone was entertained. Just showing this system to certain people gets a jaw dropping effect, "You can do what?!!?" is the common reaction.
You can loop sounds, set up to 5 cue points per track, and it does a pretty good job guesstimating the BPMs for you. The guesstimation is pretty good because it gives you more felxibility. Instead of just always remembering the same sons that match you see all the songs plus or minus. This is really helpful in fleshing out "mental database". (I have like 5k songs so it is easy to get lost.)
The one gripe so far is the BPM estimator engine has a tendency to hang on certain songs. This in turn jams up the whole process and forces you to shut the computer down without saving the info. IE, you are at song 495 of 500 when it hiccups. You lose all previous estimation of the 495. This is a software problem that should not dissuade you from the buying the product.
Final thoughts: This thing is wicked awesome.
Sean
PS I am running XP with P4 1.1G with 384 RAM using USB1. Virtual DJ, the included software, runs well on it. I wouldn't go any lower, performance would definitely be impacted. More RAM might solve the problem.
PPS Upgraded to a p4 1.4G with 1.2G using USB2. More RAM solved the problem, the program doesn't bog at all anymore. I think the RAM is more important than the USB2. Currently have all songs on an external HD, USB2, and it runs well.

Behringer BCD3000 DJ Mixer Review

Behringer BCD3000 DJ Mixer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Although it comes with Traktor 3 LE, you can also use it with Traktor 3 Pro as well as Torq and Virtual DJ. When using with Traktor 3 Pro, all you need to do is use the .tks midi configuration file from the LE version and all of the controls will be configured for you. Check out the Traktor site for more information on how to do that.
On a PC you have some more advanced options for the sound driver than on a Mac. I use this on both systems with Traktor 3 Pro and have not had any issues. If you are thinking of getting this, do it. You won't regret it!

Korg mini-KP Kaoss Pad Dynamic Effect Processor Review

Korg mini-KP Kaoss Pad Dynamic Effect Processor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Buy the red and black Mini KP to run your sounds THROUGH. If you want the one to make sounds WITH, you buy the yellow "Kaossilator". That's the short of it.
I have both and both are good for different reasons.
The yellow Kaossilator is for making phrases. In otherwords in an electronic synthesizer and phrase machine. It also has a beat maker in it and you can modify, record and layer the sounds any way you'd like. The yellow Kaossilator is pretty much a "One-Man-Band" device! Very powerful and I would not consider it just a toy IMO. People can write entire music albums with that one device.
Now for the Mini KP Kaos Pad.
I Bought this through Amazon for $109 SHIPPED at the time so shop around and you could get lucky. It came the business day after Christmas and I had ordered it a day or two before so the free shipping was amazingly fast and awesome!
The Mini KP is for modifying existing sounds. Yes, it does have a few synthesizer like sounds in it (I believe about 10 or twenty) but the other 80 channels are for running sound "through" to modify those sounds when you press the pad. It won't play any sounds you run through it on the RCA input to output unless you press the pad and let the sounds through. When you move your finger around on the pad the sounds are modified according to that effect parameter, as shown in the manual. (pitch, frequency etc etc etc the list goes on and on)
So you can't really use the MiniKP as a stand alone one man band device like the Kaossilator. It is more along the lines to modify sounds than create them, although it does have a very very small slice of some built in sound effects that are pretty cool on their own like one I relate to sounding like " evil harsh wind" that you control the depth and pitch of. Much unlike the Synth like qualities of the Kaossilator.
As you can see they go hand in hand nicely. I'd even recommend hooking the MiniKP up to a Bliptironic 5000 and using the kaossilator separately and you have some crazy meditative grooves to be made! See my other reviews for the Bliptronic 5000.
I hook all these little instruments up to my 5 channel dj effects mixer and get jiggy with it. I also hook the miniKP up to my bass guitar sometimes for some funk! Have fun with it folks! You know you need them both!

The Korg MINI KP has been enormously popular with artists around the world for its intuitive touch-pad interface and its revolutionary effect programs. While providing the same interface in which multiple parameters of the effect program are controlled by a single fingertip, the mini-KP brings the advantages of battery operation and mobility, making it an ideal choice for DJ club performances, home studio applications, as well as outdoor live events or for use with a portable audio player. Wherever you are, the mini-KP brings new possibilities to any music scene. The KAOSS PAD series lets you control the effect entirely from the touch-pad in realtime. Different effect parameters are assigned to the X-axis and Y-axis of the touch-pad and can be controlled simultaneously, meaning that you can vary the delay time and the feedback at the same time, or simultaneously change the cutoff and resonance of a filter. This means that complex effect operations that otherwise would require two hands on a conventional knob-based controller can be performed easily and intuitively with just one hand. It\'s also easy to apply complex effects by rubbing or tapping the pad with your fingertip as though you were playing a musical instrument. The mini-KP features the smallest body in the KAOSS PAD series. It can be operated on batteries, and provides a strap attachment hole for easy portability. This means that you can now use the KAOSS PAD series' unique and intuitive one-finger operation with a wide range of instruments or sound sources, in an even greater variety of situations.

Stanton T62 Straight Arm Direct-Drive DJ Turntable with 500.v3 Cartridge Pre-Mounted Review

Stanton T62 Straight Arm Direct-Drive DJ Turntable with 500.v3 Cartridge Pre-Mounted
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This turntable is great and the sound quality exceeded my expectations. This table has decent torque but if you are into scratching you might need a better slipmat or put a piece of wax paper under the included slipmat, as the stock slipmat tends to have a tad too much friction to overcome. I use this table for general listening and am very pleased with the sound quality using this table in combination with a behringer phono preamp and a Teac reference series receiver. The table has plenty of torque to clean your records with a carbon fibre brush and seems to be slightly more powerful than a Technics sl-17000 mk1 that my father owns. The included 500v3 cartridge sounds great with very low surface noise and tracks great at 3 grams (recommended range is 2-5 grams). This table has a ground cable which works well as there are no humming or buzzing noises. Sound quality is very clear and while the platter itself is fairly lightweight the slipmat helps dampen it and I don't hear any resonance or other interference in the sound. There is also no noticeable motor noise or rumble that I could perceive. The table itself seems sturdy and weighs about 17 lbs total. The rca cables and power cord are detachable which is a nice feature that even Technics tables don't have. The manual doesn't explain how to adjust the height of the feet for leveling the turntable but you can loosen the feet by turning them counterclockwise which will in turn raise that corner of the turntable. Overall this a great turntable for the money.

Stanton C.324 Tabletop CD Player With Slot Drive Review

Stanton C.324 Tabletop CD Player With Slot Drive
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm DJ Krystoph and I want to review these Stanton C324 cd turntables. I had two purchased new and I used them for about 10 months. So, I am speaking from actual experience. As a DJ I always look for informative reviews on products any of us might buy.I bought these because like most of us I have a normal mans budget and Pioneers just weren't gonna happen. So the C324 seemed a great buy for the time. These players have major issues!!!!Run away from them!
1. They freeze up if they stay paused for more than 60secs...wtf!? I had to turn the unit off and then back on to reset them.
2. Totally inconsistent playback of any burned cds. I tried 6 different burning softwares and no difference. I never knew when they would read and not.
3.tendency to skip and jump on MP3 cds. Have no idea why.
4.Would simply stop playing an hour or two into a set and I would have to do the turn off then on thing again.
Need I say more?
In the spirit of fainess, they always read new store bought cds and the effects work great and all the time. But that hardly out ways the other issues. Thats my real life experience, I hope it helps.

Behringer PMP2000 800-Watt 10-Channel Powered Review

Behringer PMP2000 800-Watt 10-Channel Powered
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
hmmm... first you will get more than you will pay for this product imagine the clarity sound of a desent studio sound systems, that is what you will hear on the speaker output... well i connected it with my yamaha pa speaker that is programed to 250watts rms to 500watts peak, and im really amazed and pleased to the sound output on it, althogh i dont think it can really push it to 350 watts at the max. and theres a wattage settings that you can read or see on the manual about 4ohms 8ohms to 16ohm thats why it really cant do the 350watts per channel... i just know by hearing it cause i recognized sounds and loud sound ...i also have a LIVE power mixer for my karaoke system that has 225watts per channel and that, i will say its louder but also every amp has its ups and downs and for the behringer pmp2000 this power mixer is better, imagine the clarity of a bose "acoustimas serries"... imagine that, that is what you can hear on a PA speaker... that is how good the sound that this power amp produced... about the down side its not that loud that i expect from a 350watts amp and the low's are not that deep or excelent, but thats maybe the speaker that i am using but still it has a good base but not to compare to a good powered subwoffer or car subwoffers... i will say its just right... but on my own satisfaction i wanted a better bass effect so i think im adding another sub speaker or just mix it with a powered subwoffer...
about the channels i have only tried 3 inputs like the guitar, mic, and cd or dvd sound out. and also media player like zune and cellphone that has a preamp or headphones out...and that it will really hugs your sound loving fellings...
about the mixing like i said on those three , there is no problem at all it dont distort the sound while you were playing it at the same time... what a very nice power mixer because on what it can do i would say you can pay 500 dollars and you will still win on that product of behringer, not to talk about the 99 different echos effects , flanger, chorus, and a lot more but they sounds close... once you tried the first effect or effect 1 and at your 25-30th effect you'll be lost and wont be remembering the difference the sound effect that you used earlier... anyway if you want a close look of what im taking about... check out my video on youtube about pmp2000. WARNING im not a very good camera man but i think ive shown what everybodies want's to hear and see's about this product... just type okeylang47 on the search tab and search for behringer pmp2000 den click... thank you for reading this review to the end ... happy shopping...

This sonic versatility also makes it an excellent choice for churches, where vocals and stereo recordings often share face time.
Classic Control, State-of-the-Art Sound Leave the mic preamps at home, because the quality of sound that was once only available in the studio is ready to go wherever you do. Nine built-in, boutique-caliber mic preamps with switchable +48 V phantom power make it possible to use either dynamic or condenser mics with the PMP2000.
Built-in Digital Effects Processor It's also equipped with a 24-bit FX processor, giving you 100 mind-blowing digital effect presets such as delay, chorus and reverb. Apply them to any channel, as well as to the monitors and main output. In case you're pulling double duty as sound engineer and performer, the FX processor has a footswitch jack for remote on/off.
Changing the Channels The PMP2000 gives you loads of flexibility in accommodating whatever the center of attention happens to be. Channels 1-6 are for mics, bass guitars or other mono instruments. Stereo channels 7-12 are ideal for keyboards. Use the 2TR IN RCA inputs to feed in external stereo signals from CD players or tape decks.
The Ins and Outs REC OUT RCA outputs send line-level signals from the mixer to a recording device, so you can finally get to work on that triple-live album you've always dreamed of. I have been using this in a home application with a hard to drive pair of vandersteens and find that this amp does a fine job. The new PRO MIXER DJX750 DJ Mixer merges intuitive operation with built-in digital effects processing for clean, transparent sound that will set your dance floor on fire! Because your voice is your instrument, the DJX750 features a dedicated mic channel with all the tools to make your sound supremely distinctive. Vocal fine-tuning is handled by the onboard 3-band EQ, which provides up to 15 dB of boost or cut at LOW (80 Hz), MID (2.5 k), and HIGH (12 kHz) frequency centers--creating an extremely broad tonal palette.

Not Just a DJX700 Dressed in Black! DJs the world over love the DJX700, so when Behringer began design on the DJX750, they had to do something very special. They started by revving up the FX processor and putting advanced parameter control right at your fingertips.
No longer are you confined to rigid presets that limit your creativity. With the DJX750, you can change FX parameters on-the-fly, pushing your performance to the next level. In no time you'll be creating powerful sets with your own custom-tailored effects sounds, all of which can be controlled in real-time. Some parameters at your disposal include Bit Crusher depth, manual filter sweeps, Panning (LFO Rate), delay/echo time and much more. You can even set delay and echo timing relative to the internal BPM counter for extremely musical results. It is kinda like a DJX700--but one on steroids!
Really good digital effects add the finishing touch to a solid performance, and ours are really good! With 33 outstanding effects to choose from, including an assortment of Phase Shifters, Flangers, Reverbs, Delays and more, your audience won't know what hit them. There are even Auto Filter and Voice Changer effects that will take your show to a whole new level.
Channels Galore Because your voice is your instrument, the DJX750 features a dedicated mic channel with all the tools to make your sound supremely distinctive. Vocal fine-tuning is handled by the onboard 3-band EQ, which provides up to 15 dB of boost or cut at LOW (80 Hz), MID (2.5 k), and HIGH (12 kHz) frequency centers--creating an extremely broad tonal palette. The DJX750's stereo channels' EQ utilize the same frequency centers with a boost of up to 12 dB and a cut of as much as -32dB. These channels are equipped to handle every conceivable input source--from line level, phono, CD and tape decks to mp3 and minidisk players, Behringer's got you covered.
Auto Ducking DJX750's talkover function automatically detects your voice and brings down the volume of the music track (referred to as "ducking"), so your voice is always out front--you can even set this level to your own personal preference. Auto BPM Counter Sync'ing up tracks is an art unto itself--that's why Behringer gave the DJX750 dual Auto BPM Counters. This cool feature helps take the guess work out of making a smooth transition from one track to the next. Each BPM counter's digital display shows which channel it is tracking and the tempo of the music in beats per minute. Optionally, you can push the Beat Assist button in time with the song to manually enter the tempo. You get a read out of the tempo difference between the tracks, as well as a visual confirmation when they are in sync. These tools will help you seamlessly align two tracks--without having to rely solely on your ears.
Crossfader & Channel Faders All of our super-smooth faders are of the high-grade 45-mm ULTRAGLIDE variety. Faders are, after all, the heart and soul of every mixer, and with their 500,000 cycle life expectancy (that's 275 fades per night, per fader for five years without a break!), they outperform standard faders more than twenty-to-one. And since the crossfader uses VCA (Voltage Controlled Amplifier) technology, there is virtually no audio noise. For those of you who prefer customized crossfading, the DJX750 also includes our CF Curve control, which lets you set the crossfader's control characteristic just the way you like it. It is, after all, your show!
XPQ 3D Making music larger than life is what it's all about and the DJX750 comes through on this in a big way. XPQ 3D Surround widens the stereo field, giving it immense depth and a stereo image that is full of life, with amazingly transparent sound. You determine the intensity of this stunning effect with a simple twist of the Surround control--from barely noticeable to supremely spectacular.
Sound Quality None of the above-mentioned features would amount to much if the DJX750 didn't sound truly remarkable. That's why Behringer equips each one with our tried-and-true ULN (Ultra Low-Noise) preamps: what comes in comes out, with nothing added. So you get maximum headroom, extremely low noise and ultra-transparent sound. Compare it to the competition for sound quality, features and value and you'll see why more and more DJs "own the night" with their Behringer DJX750.
Monitor Multi-Tasking You can't put on much of a show if you can't hear what you're mixing! That's why Behringer didn't cut any corners on DJX750's monitor section. When the monitor Mode switch is in the "Split" position, you hear the PFL (Pre-Fader Level) output on the left side of your phones, and the Master signal on your right. If you prefer working in "Stereo" mode, you can turn the MIX control fully counterclockwise to hear the channel PFL signal in both sides of your headphones, fully clockwise for the Master output, or you can "mix" both signals by adjusting the control to anywhere in-between. You can listen to one or multiple sources, and LEDs light up to indicate what you're listening to.

Behringer DDM4000 DJ Mixer Review

Behringer DDM4000 DJ Mixer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been doing studio work for several years now and
I was scared to buy this mixer, because of the name Behringer.
I checked it out at Sam Ash and guitar center for several weeks,
and I was still hesitant.
On microphone input it has 3 band EQs, compressors/limiter Noise gate,
Talk on (Music ducking) reverb, Pitch, Echo and a list that runs a mile long.
The line input has beat counter that syncs to the build in effects echo, reverb, Pitch, This is great for reggae and club music.
Some of the other features are the 32 Second Sampler, Crossover, sub- output, and enhancer, S/PDIF, MIDI in and out and it comes with rack ears. This mixer should cost thousands of dollars for what it can do.
I'm currently trying to set up the Midi control commands for Serato and apple Logic pro.
I used to be scared of Behringer, but after seeing this mixer, I'm checking out all their products with a different view.

The DDM4000 is a state-of-the-art 32-bit digital DJ mixer, jam-packed with creative tools, yet its intuitive layout will let you feel at home in an instant. Editing, storing and recalling your settings is simply a breeze! Hook up your turntables and CD/MP3 players to its 4 stereo channels, each with fully programmable EQ and Kill switches. Put ultimate versatility at your fingertips with fully programmable beat-sync'able multi-FX modules, a pair of high-precision BPM counters and a digital crossfader with custom curve adjustment. And the super-cool BPM-sync'd sampler with real-time pitch control, loop and reverse functions will make your crowd go wild.

Choose Your Channel The DDM4000 struts 5 independent channels. Channels 1-4 are crossfader-assignable stereo channels, suitable for both vinyl and CD decks, and have appropriate phono/line level toggle switches at the input. All channels feature 3-band digital EQs with up to 12 dB of boost and infinite cut option, or "kill." Any channel can be monitored directly via headphones thanks to the PFL switch above the fader.
A dedicated Mic channel is provided in mono, with 2 XLR mic inputs. The vocal channel features a special "talk" feature that attenuates the volume of the other 4 channels, ensuring you will be heard over the music. The Mic channel also has its own FX section that can be applied with a single button.
Cross My Heart The core functionality of any DJ mixer lays in its crossfader. The DDM4000's crossfader can be assigned to any of channels 1-4, and sports a 3-band EQ kill button on either side. The curve sensitivity of the crossfader is adjustable, and in the unlikely event that you wear it out, the crossfader itself is replaceable.
Step Up Your Sampling The DDM4000's BPM-synced sampler is a sought-after addition. The sampler allows you to record a segment of incoming audio and loop it continuously without dropping the beat. Once your track is looping from the sampler, you can swap discs and queue up new tracks and mix them back in. The transition is seamless!
Effects The DDM4000 features a stunning dual FX section that includes our patented BPM counting technology. This allows the mixer to read/display the BPM of 2 different inputs and to apply BPM-synchronized effects, such as an echo synced to the beat of the music. Effects such as bitcrusher, reverb, delay, pitch shift, and more are available, and can be assigned independently to multiple channels.
The DDM4000 is ideal for a club owner who has multiple working DJs performing on a recurring basis. User preferences like fader curve, FX settings, EQ, kill frequencies, etc., can all be set to various user accounts and recalled instantly. This feature can eliminate setup time between DJs altogether!
Swimming Upstream When you combine the DDM4000's digital operation with MIDI functionality, the door to creative applications opens REALLY wide. For example, the mixer can be used as a MIDI controller for your favorite DJ software--or whatever else you like! Channel faders, EQ knobs, and button presses can all be configured to send customized MIDI data. The possibilities here are quite endless.

ION Audio iCUE3 Discover DJ System Review

ION Audio iCUE3 Discover DJ System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had the ION Discover DJ for about a week now and it's been a great MIDI DJ controller so far. It's highly usable with just the right amount of controls for basic mixing and scratching. For being mostly plastic, the device feels well built - with the knobs and buttons twisting/clicking solidly. The crossfader has a metal stem with a removable cap(!), and cuts smoothly.
The jogs are awesomely functional. They are touch sensitive (i can hold the unit upside down and activate the platters). They are also as smooth as butter, and amazingly sensitive when it comes to their scratch performance. The current packed-in software (Mixvibes Cross LE) is great for beginners/intermediate djs, even some pros might prefer it. But the great thing about the Discover DJ is that it's also a MIDI device that can be used with any dj software that supports a midi controller (NI Traktor, Virtual DJ, Mixxx, DJay, and others), with a bit of mapping. As either a beginner system or a backup for a pro, i think the unit is awesome for the price. no bells and whistles, just the basics with great jog wheels. I let my nieces and nephews scratch away on it, not worrying about it getting damaged. I plan on attaching guitar strap locks to it, so i can hang it around my neck and play it like a guitar.
Also for best results with audio performance, one should use an external audio interface with the Discover DJ (it doesn't include one - it's only a controller). If one has to use their computer's onboard audio, download ASIO4all (Windows only) for best performance.
