Amplitube Live Review

Amplitube Live
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
To my ears, the software is quite good. It does take the raw signal from an electric guitar and process it in such a way that it sounds like it is coming out of a selection of real amplifiers. This way you get some classic sounds without having to go out and buy a half dozen amplifiers--and you don't have to lug them around! The software also includes noise gate, reverb, delay, distortion pedal, etc.
To correct a few erroneous comments in other reviews . . .
Even if you have a fast computer, you can still have unacceptable delays between when you strum your guitar and when the processed sound comes out of your computer. This is not Amplitube's fault. You also need a high quality sound card and low latency drivers such as ASIO or WDM, and you need to know how to optimize the latency settings. If you are using a laptop with a generic sound card and MME drivers, your delay will be long regardless how good your computer is.
You can use Amplitube LE for recording, but you will need a host software such as Cakewalk, or Cubase. You can't record if Amplitube is all you have, and I don't think they made that claim.
As I said, Amplitube sounds pretty good and realistic to my ears, but of course, that is a matter of taste.

Seismic Audio - Pedal Board Case ATA 26" Storage Rack Review

Seismic Audio - Pedal Board Case ATA 26 Storage Rack
Average Reviews:

I don't play guitar and therefore, don't have any guitar pedals. However I purchased this case from Seismic with another idea in mind. I had been shopping around for a while for a good hard case to protect my mixer board. I spent countless hours staring at cases costing hundreds of dollars and way to small to even think of fitting my board. Then I found the pedal board cases from Seismic and realized that it would be the perfect size. Once i got my case I realized just how sturdy it was built. Very well put together and solid. I added my own brackets (simply made from some scrap wood) and some foam to tightly fit and protect my mixer. After a year of use, the case still looks practically brand new and my mixer is very well protected. I highly recomend this case for anyone looking for a solid case to protect anything.

DigiTech RP350 Multi Effect Pedal Review

DigiTech RP350 Multi Effect Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The amp simulators alone make the Digitech RP350 worth the price of admission. No piece of solid state equipment can capture all of the nuances of tube gear, but this thing comes reasonably close.
The main limitation I found is that you can run only ONE effect at a time from the Chorus/FX module (delay and reverb are in a separate module). So running chorus and flange together is impossible. Ditto with phaser and pitch shift. I would strongly recommend visiting the Digitech website and downloading the manual so that you know exactly what you are getting. The website also has clips of the presets, though actually playing one would of course be better.
My only other gripe is that the Marshall Plexi simulation could use a higher maximum gain level. You have to mate it with a distortion pedal simulation to get a decent among of distortion. I prefer my Tech 21 Sansamp GT2 for 70s hard rock sounds.
For the price, this was well worth it for me. I just hope Digitech makes future models with two FX modules instead of only one.

IK Multimedia AmpliTube 3 Amp & FX Tone Modeling Software Review

IK Multimedia AmpliTube 3 Amp and FX Tone Modeling Software
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A guitar/bass amp modeling software product with usable tones...? Seriously?
Yup.
I've used Line6, Studio Devil, and some other unmentionables over the past few years and I just could not accept them as serious tools. Useful for practicing quietly at home in the late night hours? Sure...but when it came to using them for recording, forget it. Everything seemed off, from overall tone to playing dynamics. It was always obvious that you were using software. So for a long time, I just steered clear of these tools, convinced that it would take some long-term research and development to solve the many issues.
But I'm pleased to say that products like Amplitube are giving me hope. I am very impressed with their version 3 and the newer Amplitube Fender release. Someone really has their act together at IK Multimedia and shows a great understanding of how guitar sound is produced overall. Plugging in and finding quite convincing tones ranging from the sweetness of a stereo chorus Roland JC120 to the onslaught of a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier with a distortion box out front always brings a smile. There are some less-than-inspiring presets, but these may suit some ears more than mine.
However, the real power is in Amplitube's flexibility. You can take any preset that's in the neighborhood of what you're looking for and then tweak it until you're happy. Everything from stomp boxes to the amp face dials to rack effects and microphone placement, it's all there. You can even tell it which mics (e.g., Shure SM57, etc...) to use, where to place them relative to the speaker, how far you want them from the front of the cabinet, and what type of room (e.g., small studio, hall, etc...) to use. The differences are sometimes subtle, but everything adds up to an overall sound. And once you have the whole configuration "just so", you can save the settings to your own preset folder and then call them up whenever. No need to write everything down and hope that you've accounted for each variable. The software takes care of it for you.
We're using Amplitube with our Mbox 2/Pro Tools LE 8 setup and it makes demo recording so much easier. Now the hardest part of recording is setting up the drums and vocals, as the two guitars and the bass are easy to configure and record. Not to mention that the direct in analog-to-digital recording is clean and free from ambient noise, so there's only minimal scrubbing required during mixdown.
I've read some reviewers out there speaking poorly of Amplitube and about modeling software in general. The central argument is always the same: poor tone and playing dynamics. I can understand this complaint and in the past, I'd be right there with them, chanting the Luddite opposition to digital anything. But not anymore. I'd recommend that the diehards out there demo the newest versions of these products and think again about how things are shaping up. I've been playing on and off for almost twenty years and in that time, I've owned and jammed on a lot of different amps, including a Fender Champ, Deluxe Reverb, and Twin Reverb, a Dr. Z Mazerati, Engl Powerball, two different Marshalls, and a couple Vox. I'm not a tone snob, but my ear is pretty good. To me, the new wave of modeling software is really starting to nail down the tone factor. Moreover, they're getting much better at rendering variables and dynamics such as pick placement and attack.
Is it perfect yet? Eh...maybe not. But things have come a long way and in my opinion, it's good enough for most recording efforts. Pros out there may not agree, but I'm speaking here to everyday folks like me who just enjoy writing and recording music and playing out live on occasion. Note that for live applications, you'll really want a way to access the presets more conveniently, like IK's StompIO floorboard, which is another considerable investment by itself.
Bottom line: give it a try and I really think that (unless you're a tone snob) you'll be impressed.

IK Multimedia AmpliTube Fender Studio Software/Hardware Bundle + StealthPlug USB Interface Review

IK Multimedia AmpliTube Fender Studio Software/Hardware Bundle + StealthPlug USB Interface
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This product gives you a choice of virtual Fender amps to run on your PC or Mac bundled along with some effects pedals and a tuner. They also include the interface between your guitar and the PC in the form of a jack plug to USB adapter which also includes a standard headphone socket. The first thing you notice after installing the software is that it is impossible to listen to your guitar via your PC speakers (I would not have bought this product had I known this before hand) this leaves only the headphone option, with any of the amps master volumes set to the absolute minimum (just above zero) the sound through the headphones is so loud it is unbearable, the volume controls on the USB interface appear to do nothing either. Also the virtual controls on the amps (the rotary volume and tone pots) are a total nightmare to adjust with a mouse making any of the many (there are millions of them) adjustments you have to make to amps or effects a total chore.
No fun at all. I suggest buying a real Fender practice amp instead if you can afford it.

FLOYD LOCK NUT 1 5/8 BLACK Review

FLOYD LOCK NUT 1 5/8 BLACK
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There are a few options when ordering a replacement nut for your Floyd Rose tremelo. Make sure that you find out whether you need the 1-11/16" (42.85mm) or 1-5/8" (41.27mm) size. Also keep in mind (and this is important) there are right handed and left handed versions. The difference is in the cut spacing that the strings will fit into. Using a left handed replacement nut for a right handed neck will result in poorly fitting (and buzzing) strings in the nut. In my case I bought a left handed neck even though I play right handed. I still need a right handed nut for the correct string fitting even though the neck is a lefty.
Unfortunately this critical information is missing on Amazon's product description. It gives the correct nut width but neglects to tell you if they're selling the right handed or left handed version. Take your chances or find the same product cheaper (and they are out there) with the correct information elsewhere.

Carl Martin Octaswitch Review

Carl Martin Octaswitch

My pedals sound amazing. No dancing. Incredible. Only thing that sucks but that is just inherent in the pedal is how many cables are needed. Like 16 cables. It's crazy. But the pedal is true bypass which makes my rig sound so friggin good. I'm in the process of making my own cables because it's cheaper and I can get specific lengths. The Octa-switch is highly recommended.

When Carl Martin decided to create a baby-brother for his world famous Combinator, the details of simplifying an already simple effect controller made his head hurt.So Carl enlisted the help of Thomas Guldmann, and the Octa-switch was born. The concept is simple\'.take your eight favourite effects pedals, plug them into the eight individual loops (all true-bypass gold relays) on the Octa-switch, and then designate what effects you want connected to each of 8 banks via the worlds simplest and smallest DIP switches located over top of each of the eight bank switches.Thomas chose DIP switches because they are just eight individual on-off switches in a tiny tiny package. So if your effects are plugged into Loops 1-8, you simply turn the DIP switch ‘on\' for each of the effects you want in Bank 1, and then Bank 2 etc up to Bank 8.You can use one or all of the effects in each bank, and once you have designated a bank, do us both a favour and cover the DIP with a bit of tape to ensure nothing happens to the DIP switch when you are not looking\'\'like an errant hand, or a flood of beer. The Octa-switch is mono-in and mono/stereo out, with a choice of a buffered signal or not.The unit is powered by dual 9v batteries, or a regulated power supply like the Carl Martin Big John Power Supply, and is housed in an all metal case with heart-stopping (ok, well almost) graphics. So, the same basic options found in the digitally controlled units the famous guys are using, at a fraction of the cost!Carl\'s head stopped hurting\'..

The Supa-Trem pedal from Fulltone uses a photocell like an old American tube-amp, but without the annoying ticking sound that plagues other tremolo pedals. The tremolo pedal is true bypass with an LED status and speed indicator. The Supa-Trem's footswitchable Half/Full speed footswitch stays in tempo, allowing Leslie-like moves without losing the song's beat. Empress ParaEq with Boost Review

Empress ParaEq with Boost
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I typically play a Gibson 335, Les Paul, Strat or Tele through a Tone King Meteor II (high end boutique version of a 60's fender blackface). I usually get either lost in the mix or dominate it. With this pedal I found two narrow frequencies that caused the problem and cut them. Then I add a wide range for a top boost. Problem solved--AMAZING tone that sits in the mix like in the studio.
It's a boring concept. $250 for an EQ? It's very worth it. I have owned EQ pedals before and not really understood the point. I suppose the quality of this is so superior that dialing in something useful is much easier -- I DO NOT like graphic eq's.
It's the only pedal on my extensive pedalboard that i would not ever consider replacing (although the empress superdelay, while quirky is a close second)
Really excited about this company!

Empress Tremolo Review

Empress Tremolo
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got an Amazon gift card for my birthday with the instructions to buy something fun with it, to splurge a little. This is what I chose. I don't really *need* a tremolo (I'm not a performer), but it sure is fun to play with!
I researched a lot of tremolo pedals before deciding on this one (thanks, ProGuitarShop! I owe you one). I chose it primarily because of what I heard, but also due to the impressive amounts of controls that are available. If there's a certain trem sound you're trying to achieve, I can almost guarantee you can get it with this box! I won't go over all the controls because that's in the product description. I can tell you that tap tempo is *awesome*, almost a must-have. It will spoil you. The tube style trem is great for all-around applications, while the square style is a lot of fun to play with. I haven't used the triangle much yet, but then again I just got the box.
Besides tap tempo, another feature that is unique and awesome is the rhythm settings. Check around on YouTube for some demos of them. It's a nice touch that really sets this product apart from other tremolo effects.
On the negative side, there are a few small things that I don't like, though not deal-breakers. First, the tempo LED will continue to flash as long as the unit has power. That can be annoying for home hobbyists like myself. Second, there is no way to save presets. Finally, this unit does not run on battery power, yet an AC adapter must be purchased separately.
Even with those few minor concerns, I still rate this product as five stars due to sound and features.

Pristine Sound - The Empress Tremolo has to be heard to be believed. Its whisper quiet and free from the "LFO throb" usually associated with tremolos. We dare anyone to find a better sounding tremolo.Waveform Selection - You can modulate your sound with three different waveforms. An asymmetrical tremolo was modeled after a '65 Fender Vibrolux (brown face) to give you the fullest tremolo sound possible. A square wave can be utilized if you're after a harder sound. And if you're looking for a more normal tremolo, you can use the triangle wave setting.Tap Tempo - The Empress Trem averages your last four taps so it plays in sync with your music. You can also choose different tap to tremolo rate ratios. 1:1, 1:2, and 1:4 are available. Two Speed Mode - An exclusive feature to the Empress Trem. You're able to set two different rates, and switch between them using the tap tempo stomp switch. This is similar to playing through a Leslie cabinet and changing the speed.Rhythms - Another exclusive feature. The Empress Trem will definitely do your run-of-the-mill tremolo sound to a tee. But you can also set it to play different rhythms. Check out the soundclips for examples.Gain - A problem with most tremolos on the market is that when they're engaged, you hear a noticeable drop in volume. The Empress Trem solves this by having a gain stage on the output. It's able to deliver up to 6dB of gain without adding any distortion to the signal.True Bypass - The Empress Trem employs true bypass, so you can be sure that it's not affecting the signal when disengaged.Perfect Size - The enclosure measures approximately 4.5" by 3.5" by 1.5", which is delightfully small when considering all the features packed into this unit.Four Year Warranty - The Empress Tremolo comes with a two-year warranty. Digitech PSS3-120 Power Supply for GNX2, GNX3, GNX3000, GNX4, J-Station Review

Digitech PSS3-120 Power Supply for GNX2, GNX3, GNX3000, GNX4, J-Station
Average Reviews:

I've had 2 problems with this adapter:
1. If you use this with a less stable power supply (e.g. a generator) that's not load-balanced, it likely will fail - I've blown out 3 of these under such conditions and the GNX 3000 I use it with doesn't run on batteries and there's no protection circuitry in either. Note that other power supplies with other effects pedals on the same circuit did not fail and were fine. There's no fuse in either the GNX 3000 or the power supply system (which would be a nice cost-saving measure), so you're stuck with replacing the power supply. I recommend keeping a spare on hand.
2. the wire/ wire support on the low voltage side isn't very good. If you transport it around and use it a lot, the wire will break eventually so treat it carefully.
So, compared to other power supplies on other electronics, it's inferior, but it's the only choice you have.

Tech 21 BSDR-DLX SansAmp Bass Driver Deluxe Review

Tech 21 BSDR-DLX SansAmp Bass Driver Deluxe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I play in 2 bands and I typically use 2 to 3 Basses on stage depending on the band (and the stage). I have always fought with having to dial in the right tone for each Bass every time I switch Basses. The Tech 21 BSDR-DLX SansAmp Bass Driver Deluxe solves that problem. I can preset the 3 main tones I need for 2 Basses and when I switch basses, it just takes a split second to hit the footswitch and I have the exact sound I need. This thing is very easy to setup and has a boatload of other features. Besides the obvious XLR Direct out, it also has a 1/4" Parallel out that is pre-tone controls so you can send your unaltered Bass signal to a Tuner or in my case, another amplifier. It also has an effects loop so you can have your effects setup and just hit one switch and you have the tone you need plus the effects you need. There's a small learning curve and you need some time for trial and error with the tone controls and the drive, level and blend controls if your customizing your own sounds. You can also just use the stock sounds that come pre-programmed and it sounds great. I've had many compliments from band mates as well as fans in the audience about my sound since using the Bass Driver Deluxe. I would definitely recommend the Tech 21 BSDR-DLX SansAmp Bass Driver Deluxe for any Bassist. I would also recommend you buy the optional Tech 21 DC2 DC2 Power Supply.

Gator G-Bus-8-US Pedal Board Power Supply Review

Gator G-Bus-8-US Pedal Board Power Supply
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great product for the price ($100). There are great features: (8) 9-volt and (3) 18-volt power outlets to power your whole arsenal of pedals. Fulltone players will appreciate the multiple 18-volt outlets to really enhance the Fulltone line. The unit bolts conveniently to the bottom of the Gator pedal board to create an integrated unit.
The only drawback to this unit is that different cables are required to use 9-volt vs. 18-volt. This would not be a problem except that Gator only supplies one (1) 18-volt cable when three (3) outlets are available. So, with multiple pedals that can run at 18-volts, I have to choose which one gets the 18-volt. I cannot find any dealers that carry just the 18-volt cables (short of buying a second power supply) and even contacted Gator for some help (while they were nice and pretty responsive, they were no help - "We don't have any of these right now. Please check back.") Not the answer I was looking for but again, it was $100.
This is a great unit for home-players and folks who gig irregularly. For regular giggers, I would look at Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2 or similar product.

Tech 21 Trademark 60 1x12" Guitar Combo Amplifier Review

Tech 21 Trademark 60 1x12 Guitar Combo Amplifier

I used to haul a heavy 2x10 tube combo to gigs- until I got this baby. More power than I'll ever need for small halls, channel switching, and a tremendous range of tones. You can, literally, create just about any amp tone, from a smooth JC-120/Polytone jazz sound to a Fender tweed to a Marshall stack or a hot AC30.
And it's done with analog circuitry, not digital; the result is a very realistic sound that doesn't have any of that "computer generated" sound you often get from Line6 amps and other modeling amps. If you've ever used a Sansamp pedal, that's the range you get.
The controls are different from the other Tech21 amps, which are set up like one or more GT2 pedals. This amp gives you two channels with very different qualities. One can be thought of as a classic Fender sound that can be tweaked anywhere from a mellow Vibraverb sound up through a tweaked Mesa Boogie. The other channel is the Brit channel, and yields a range of classic Vox and Marshall sounds, as well as a number that haven't been invented yet.
I liked this amp so much that I now own three different Tech21 amps. My only tube amp is a Fender champ, and I just keep that for sentimental reasons.
