ISP Decimator Noise Reduction Pedal Review

ISP Decimator Noise Reduction Pedal

Usually these type of pedals don't work well at all. This pedal gets the job done. For extremely high gain try two - one after the guitar - one after the efx pedals. It actually works.

ISP Technologies presents the latest generation in Noise Reduction technology, the DECIMATORTM NOISE REDUCTION SYSTEM. From the original inventors of HUSHTM noise reduction comes the latest, most advanced, patent pending, state of the art technology in real time noise reduction. The Decimator offers a revolutionary breakthrough in Noise Reduction processing with an unparalleled level of performance. The HUSH system, as well as all other noise reduction systems suffers from one major problem inherent in their design: The system cannot be immediately responsive to very short-term staccato notes. The typical downward expander noise reduction system suffers from a dead zone in the release response characteristic which causes a compromise in tracking both fast decaying notes and long sustained notes. The Decimator design offers a novel approach to tracking the envelope of the input signal called Time Vector Processing. Due to this novel approach in controlling the expander, the Decimator system will instantly respond to short staccato notes and, at the same time, will provide a very slow ripple free control of long sustained notes. This means that the Decimator noise reduction system is the most transparent and highest performance noise reduction system available.

Spectraflex Braided Series Pedal Cable, Dual Right Angle Plugs, 6 Inch, Tweed Review

Spectraflex Braided Series Pedal Cable, Dual Right Angle Plugs, 6 Inch, Tweed
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These six-inch pedal/effect connectors are BURLY! This is lifetime gear as far as I'm concerned, with the highest quality right-angle jacks I've ever seen, a very heavy duty strain relief that completely locks out any uscrewing of the connector (i've had that problem on lower quality right-angle cords/plugs), and of course the spectraflex jacketing.
I haven't been a fan of using spectraflex for each and every cord, because the stiff jacket, in some lengths and for some uses, causes more kinks than it solves, and the cover can get fuzzy over time. But what more could I ask for in a short pedal connection cable? I basically want it to be immortal... a piece of gear that I will never have to question or test or replace, because I know that there's no way the conductors could get damaged short of cutting into it with a knife. These cables live up to that level of expectation. Pedal-to-pedal cords are the ones you're going to fold into tight bends all the time, and what better than this woven jacket to prevent that from crimping the conductors over time. And though the jacket is stiff enough to protect against that, it doesn't resist bending into a U-turn just like you need it to in between pedals.
One warning: The right-angle plugs are so well connected and the jacket and strain reliefs are so strong that these plugs are always going to point in the same direction. If you need them to face opposite directions like a letter "Z" you might want a cheaper cable.

Visual Sound Route 66 American Overdrive Review

Visual Sound Route 66 American Overdrive
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There is a new version out, upgraded with additional noise suppression. Of course, I always thought noise is what you make it, so make the most of it. This box is for the pure, classic sounds. A tube screamer and the best compression short of a janglebox. I play it doing acoustic; classic rock on a strat; but most of all blues and rock on my homemade electric 12. Practically nothing this box can't do. I'm going for the new model, but definitely keeping this one.

The Visual Sound Route 66 American Overdrive gives you 2 classic effects for the price of one. This handsome stomp box features classic compression and overdrive. The great-sounding overdrive channel is modeled after the sound of the original Tube Screamer, but it also has a bass boost switch. The compressor can be set for classic squash or clean boost with the unique preamp stage and gain knob. This allows for a truckload of clean gain. The compressor even has its own tone control. The 2 effects can be used independently or combined to complement one another.

Boss BR600 Digital Multitrack Recorder Review

Boss BR600 Digital Multitrack Recorder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had this recorder now for almost 3 months and I am blown away by the capabilities of this unit.
Expect This:
1) Small
2) Light weight
3) Excellent sound quality
4) Easy to operate basic features
5) Can back up songs to computer (and reload them back into unit)
6) Programmable drums (you can string together patterns into a "song" or tap in your own patterns)
7) Nice amp modeling (lots of "stomp box" settings and Bass guitar simulations so you can play bass with a regular guitar..and it sounds believable)
8) Nice effects (reverb, chorus, delay, comp. limit, etc.) that you can program to some extent
9) Has a line in so you can use an external mixer if you want
10) Onboard stereo Mic is astonishlingly clear and sensitive (you can record live gigs with nothing plugged in)
11) Seperate rhythm track fader so you don't waste a track for drums
12) 64 virtual tracks so you can have different 8 different performances on say Track 1 (but you can only play select and play one at a time...but cool for alternate versions of a song)
13) Cut and paste performance data on the same track or between tracks
14) Punch in/out recording so you can zero in and re-record over "bad sections"
15) Pitch correction that actually will correct your off key singing (not the best quality but ok)
16) Excellent tool for the singer/songwriter to "flesh out" ideas into a digital quality recording
Don't Expect This:
1) No way to sync with external sequencer (no SMPTE or MTC)
2) Can only record two "things" at a time (guitar/mic, 2 mics, or 2 guitars) unless you use external mixer
3) Easy access to features (with a single small LED display you are stuck with "menu trees")
4) The batteries to last long. I put new batteries in and got the "low battery" message only after 1 hour of use. I use AC all the time so not a big deal to me.
5) The 125 Meg card to hold more than about a single fullup 8 track song (get the 1Gig card immediately...only about $30)
6) To have 8 independent tracks. You have 4 mono tracks and 2 stereo tracks so it is really a cross between a 6 track and 8 track recorder...depending on how you look at it.
7) Export your whole song in .WAV or .AIFF format (only individual mono/stereo tracks can be exported so do all your tracks is sort of time consuming...but it can be done)
8) Great microphone performance (the preamp is a little weak...at least for the dynamic cardioid that I use
Given all the above I still give it 5 stars and here is why:
1) Form Factor (small and lightweight)
2) Sound quality
3) Ease of use (to lay down multiple tracks quickly)
4) Onboard rhythm (hundreds of patterns (intros, verses, fills, and ends) that you can string together.
5) Onboard amp modeling (and especially the bass simulation....don't have to buy a bass guitar)
6) Cost....incredible amount of features/quality for $350. I had a studio in LA 15 years ago and this unit is the equivalent of over $5000 worth of gear (8 track cassette deck, effects boxes, bass guitar, guitar amp, and drum machine). I can't believe how all this stuff is now part of something the size/weight of a magazine.
7) Easy backup of data on computer so you can have a downloadable "library" of songs and download them seperately when you want to work on them.
The only feature I wish this thing had was a way to sync up with a DAW sequencer. But you can always export your tracks out as WAV or AIFF files and import them into your DAW.
But for me, I just want something that is always ready to go if I get an idea for a song and I don't want to have to boot up a computer or play with a bunch of cords and gear. I just turn this thing on with nothing attached, grab my acoustic guitar, and sing/play thru the built in Mics to "get the idea down". Then I go back later and "do it right".
My two tips are:
1) Get the 1Gig card as the 125Meg card is just too small for real work
2) And "if" you are unhappy with the Mic sound, run your Mic into a preamp and feed the signal into the unit thru the line in. When I did this my vocals became "alive". The guitar in has plenty of "oomphf".
I love this unit. It does everything a singer/songwriter who wants to quickly sketch out ideas could want. And if you want to do some quality recording it will do that too.

Love the price, love the simulated spring reverb. Nuf said. Who needs flerb or hall? Not me but it's nice to have options. I bought this in lieu of getting a real spring reverb. I love the nano grail because it fits nicely on my mini pedalboard and sounds great! I use it during live jam sessions. I'd consider using it for recording but chances are I'd record dry and add reverb later.
I recommend it!

Divine reverb for mere mortals. Down from the heavens comes the Holy Grail, a compact digital reverb guitar pedal that is priced so low thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's reverb tank any longer. The Holy Grail will make you a believer with its emulation of classic Spring reverb so faithful that even Dick Dale couldn't tell the difference. Next, get lost in the lush spaciousness of the Hall reverb and ask yourself, "how did they fit Notre Dame into such a small package?" Finally, reach enlightenment with the haunting Flerb.

Boss MD-2 Mega Distortion Review

Boss MD-2 Mega Distortion
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I first bought this pedal a while ago when it first came out to give me a nice distortion sound on my little practice amp. It did the job and i liked it... until i upgraded my amp to a 60w solid state. It sounded either too harsh or too muddy when i added bass, i didn't like it at all, so I put it away. Now I got a nice marshall tube amp and thought hey, why not try it? I LOVE it with the marshall! It gets me a really different flavor than the marshall, I still love the tube overdrive tone of course, but for more alternative-grungy stuff, this rocks. I'd have to say most importantly: if you throw this in front of a solid state amp, you probably won't like it. Also, if you play METAL, you won't like it, but if you play rock and like the DS-1 or DS-2 tones, you should try this. Also, it has a few sweet spots, especially with the gain boost and bottom boost down (bottom boost will kill you in the mix). Have fun!

Lots of effects can be had with this versatile pedal, which is also easy on the budget. I'm still checking the features out. I find the settings are pushing me to play in certain directions hitherto unexplored. Very cool. The drum beats also try hard to provide variety, and yet, they remain mechanical, acting almost like a pendulum, keeping me on the beat. Good stuff for practice and for working leads around the rhythm. I still have a long way to go before the novelty of this nice piece of engineering wears off.

Boss DD-20 Giga Delay Guitar Pedal Review

Boss DD-20 Giga Delay Guitar Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Boss DD-20 Giga Delay pedal may not be the last delay pedal you ever need but it may come close. This is another in the "twin pedal" design in the Roland line.
The layout looks imposing but is very simple and intuitive. You have your basic controls for feedback, delay time, effect level, delay mode, and tone. Setting the delay time can be adjusted manually via the black knob by either turning it to fine tune or pressing it for quicker advancement through the delay times.
The I/O of the device has an input for a control pedal, and headphone out , 2 inputs for stereo operation, by plugging in the "left" in and out will give you mono.
It would be really to your advantage to read the manual because you can assign the pedals to do different things, adjust how many "heads" to use for the tape delay (based on the Space Echo), how to adjust for -20db to +4db output, and other neat tricks.. There is also a way to reset the factory presets.
With 11 different delay types including "Sound On Sound", Reverse, Tape, Analog, Dual (long delay and slap at the same time), Pan, Smooth (has a reverb quality with the delay), modulation. The two "new" settings are "Twist" and "Warp."
The "Twist" mode is activated by the left pedal and causes the delay signal to speed up and oscillate.
The "Warp" mode holds the delay until you hit the pedal again.
This unit has 23 seconds of delay time and with the "SOS' function you can use this as a looper.
You can adjust your delay via either the right pedal or the button under the display. You can also adjust tempo as well.
You can store up to 4 settings in the memory.
This device is not "true-bypass" but the buffers in most Boss pedals are good in not affecting your tone. So if you have a bunch of pedals with "true-bypass" this should not be a problem. The other thing to note is the device is in an "always on" state and takes up a lot of real estate on the pedal board.
Granted the Giga Delay may have many bells and whistles that you may never use so give some thought on how you are going utilize this device. I bought it based on being able to store presets and having a "reverse" function. If you looking for a simpler delay pedal then look at the MXR Carbon Copy (which I also own). That is a versatile pedal in a small footprint.

Eleven delay modes are provided covering everything from analog and tape delay to reverse delay and more. Tech 21 BSDR-DLX SansAmp Bass Driver Deluxe Review

Tech 21 BSDR-DLX SansAmp Bass Driver Deluxe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I play in 2 bands and I typically use 2 to 3 Basses on stage depending on the band (and the stage). I have always fought with having to dial in the right tone for each Bass every time I switch Basses. The Tech 21 BSDR-DLX SansAmp Bass Driver Deluxe solves that problem. I can preset the 3 main tones I need for 2 Basses and when I switch basses, it just takes a split second to hit the footswitch and I have the exact sound I need. This thing is very easy to setup and has a boatload of other features. Besides the obvious XLR Direct out, it also has a 1/4" Parallel out that is pre-tone controls so you can send your unaltered Bass signal to a Tuner or in my case, another amplifier. It also has an effects loop so you can have your effects setup and just hit one switch and you have the tone you need plus the effects you need. There's a small learning curve and you need some time for trial and error with the tone controls and the drive, level and blend controls if your customizing your own sounds. You can also just use the stock sounds that come pre-programmed and it sounds great. I've had many compliments from band mates as well as fans in the audience about my sound since using the Bass Driver Deluxe. I would definitely recommend the Tech 21 BSDR-DLX SansAmp Bass Driver Deluxe for any Bassist. I would also recommend you buy the optional Tech 21 DC2 DC2 Power Supply.

Gator G-Bus-8-US Pedal Board Power Supply Review

Gator G-Bus-8-US Pedal Board Power Supply
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great product for the price ($100). There are great features: (8) 9-volt and (3) 18-volt power outlets to power your whole arsenal of pedals. Fulltone players will appreciate the multiple 18-volt outlets to really enhance the Fulltone line. The unit bolts conveniently to the bottom of the Gator pedal board to create an integrated unit.
The only drawback to this unit is that different cables are required to use 9-volt vs. 18-volt. This would not be a problem except that Gator only supplies one (1) 18-volt cable when three (3) outlets are available. So, with multiple pedals that can run at 18-volts, I have to choose which one gets the 18-volt. I cannot find any dealers that carry just the 18-volt cables (short of buying a second power supply) and even contacted Gator for some help (while they were nice and pretty responsive, they were no help - "We don't have any of these right now. Please check back.") Not the answer I was looking for but again, it was $100.
This is a great unit for home-players and folks who gig irregularly. For regular giggers, I would look at Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2 or similar product.
