Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Nano Reverb Pedal Review

Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Nano Reverb Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Love the price, love the simulated spring reverb. Nuf said. Who needs flerb or hall? Not me but it's nice to have options. I bought this in lieu of getting a real spring reverb. I love the nano grail because it fits nicely on my mini pedalboard and sounds great! I use it during live jam sessions. I'd consider using it for recording but chances are I'd record dry and add reverb later.
I recommend it!

Divine reverb for mere mortals. Down from the heavens comes the Holy Grail, a compact digital reverb guitar pedal that is priced so low thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's reverb tank any longer. The Holy Grail will make you a believer with its emulation of classic Spring reverb so faithful that even Dick Dale couldn't tell the difference. Next, get lost in the lush spaciousness of the Hall reverb and ask yourself, "how did they fit Notre Dame into such a small package?" Finally, reach enlightenment with the haunting Flerb.

Boss MD-2 Mega Distortion Review

Boss MD-2 Mega Distortion
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I first bought this pedal a while ago when it first came out to give me a nice distortion sound on my little practice amp. It did the job and i liked it... until i upgraded my amp to a 60w solid state. It sounded either too harsh or too muddy when i added bass, i didn't like it at all, so I put it away. Now I got a nice marshall tube amp and thought hey, why not try it? I LOVE it with the marshall! It gets me a really different flavor than the marshall, I still love the tube overdrive tone of course, but for more alternative-grungy stuff, this rocks. I'd have to say most importantly: if you throw this in front of a solid state amp, you probably won't like it. Also, if you play METAL, you won't like it, but if you play rock and like the DS-1 or DS-2 tones, you should try this. Also, it has a few sweet spots, especially with the gain boost and bottom boost down (bottom boost will kill you in the mix). Have fun!

The MD-2 Mega Distortion takes the bottom-heavy distortion sounds heard in today's new-school metal and pushes it to the extreme. The secret is a special dual-stage distortion circuit with an added gain boost-plus new Bottom and Tone controls-for crushing distortion with massive low end. Take your distortion into the future with the MD-2.-- Produces extreme, low-end distortion for modern metal and hard rock-- Gain Boost circuit creates huge distortion and sustain regardless of level-- New Bottom control for bottom-heavy distortion matched to 7-string guitars-- Tone control adjusts balance between high and low frequencies

Behringer BDI21 V-Tone Bass Amp Modeler Review

Behringer BDI21 V-Tone Bass Amp Modeler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
OK here are the facts:
1- I own a cheap bass. I admit it freely, and I don't regret it. Considering the economic times is just wise to choose the cheapest tool that will get the job done. I also admit that cheap instruments sound cheap, and my Memphis is no exception.
2- For expert ears, tonal coloring is no substitute of a good instrument. However for most listeners is just difficult (if not plain impossible) to distinguish between good and great.
3- Amplifiers are as important as the Bass for the final tone. So is technique (I don't like picks, fingers only), in fact a good player can make a crappy instrument sound good, and no matter how expensive your instrument, if you can't play it will show.
After the above disclaimers, I can totally assure you that THIS BOX IS AWESOME. First it makes your cheap instrument sound like is 5 times (in my case 10) more expensive. I use as a DI to an Edirol M-16DX mixer, then either via USB 2.0 to Apple Logic or to a pair of Behringer B215A 400 W Active speakers (yes they are behringer too, so wut?) I didn't buy the power cord, instead I have a steady supply of 9V (which I remove when the unit is not in use). Using the balanced output (XLR) there's no humm, dial the level up to get good volume, and dial the equalizer knobs to your liking (use your ears, finding the tones you like is not difficult). Is not great, but is very good, and considering its versatility and that unbeatable price, the Behringer BDI21 is a clear winner, not just for us in a budget, but also for beginners and mid level players. Just don't step on it.

There are DI boxes... and then there's the V-TONE BASS BDI21, a feature-packed analog DI box built especially for bass.

Not Your Average DI Box The BDI21 combines the features of an active DI (direct injection) box with our proprietary tube emulation circuitry. It's like having a truckload of vintage tube amps right at your toes! The Blend control allows you to mix the amount of tube emulation you want with your direct bass signal. And if you don't want to use the tube emulation feature, just step on the switch and the ADI21 functions as a superb active DI box.
So Easy to Use With its dedicated DRIVE, TREBLE, BASS, LEVEL, and PRESENCE dials, the BDI21 DI box goes above and beyond, giving you vintage tube tones for some funked-up slap, gonzo overdrive and everything in-between. You can use the BDI21 as a recording output DI, with tube emulation, or as a standard active DI box, when running in bypass mode. The output is laid out on 1/4" TS or balanced, gold-plated XLR connectors. There's also a ground lift switch that eliminates typical ground loop hum problems. You can power this bad boy with a 9V battery or Behringer's PSU-SB DC power supply (not included).
Not Just for Bass
Use With Other Instruments The BDI21 is not only for bass guitars. You can try it with other instruments (e. g. acoustic/electric guitars, keyboards etc.) to create new sounds and enhance your music. Please make sure that the input level is not too high to avoid overloading the BDI21.
Direct to a Mixing ConsoleFor live and studio applications you can connect the balanced LR BAL OUT directly to a mic input of a mixing console. Be sure not to overload the input by using the gain control of the respective channel. For further information please refer to the user's manual of your mixing console.
Use Without InstrumentsYou can use the BDI21 without an instrument as an outboard processor connected to an insert or an effect path (aux send/ return) of your mixing console to affect the signal of a particular channel. This way you can enhance existing tracks during mixdown. For further information please refer to the user's manual of your mixing console.

Johnson FX-110 Tube Overdrive Pedal Review

Johnson FX-110 Tube Overdrive Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got mine this evening and took a look at it. The carton was wrecked, which is perhaps why this lot was on sale.
It's kind of funny. What it looks like exactly is that whatever PLA laogai labor camp that makes those cheesy tools in the dollar store that break the first time you use them decided to go into the business of making Boss stompbox clones. That's exactly the "look" these have.
It's really amazing how they copied, however ineptly and cheaply, so many unique features of the Boss line. I wouldn't be surprised if the circuit is a copy of some Boss pedal's. Construction is also Boss-copied -- through-board, flying leads, same unique switch, same actuator arrangement, same battery access arrangement, identically creased plastic insulator plate...the case is just longer and the knobs smaller and cheaper, and lacking switching overtravel protection, which will probably result in early switch failure.
BUT...it actually is a adequate overdrive, somewhat better than I expected! Distortion ramp is gradual and manageable and the sound keeps its definition in complex chording. The tone control is not that great, but about what you normally get with the one-knob arrangement.
The circuit is fairly complex for the price, a 4558D OpAmp and about eight JFETs and a fistful of passives.
I suspect this must be a straight copy of another pedal, but I'm not sure which. Despite the green paint, this is not a Tubescreamer circuit. BTW, this OpAmp is NOT the same as the one in the old Tubescreamer, merely a modern OpAmp with the old number. The tooling for the original was destroyed decades ago, and the OpAmp was less a determinant of the original Tubescreamer sound than the old Panasonic clipping diodes were, also extinct but reissued in name only -- but not used in this particular unit.

Boss PH3 Phase Shifter Review

Boss PH3 Phase Shifter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As with all Boss pedals, this is a good, solid, reliable effect pedal. My main use for this is to simulate a classic 70s Mutron Phasor, which it does really well on the "10 stage" setting with the Resonance turned up. Great for copping that classic "Produced by Lee 'Scratch' Perry" sound. Also great with a distortion pedal for David Gilmour-esque solos.
The pedal can also get a passable Univibe sound on the 4-stage setting, although it does color your sound somewhat and is not what I would call "transparent".
Not the most popular phase pedal among the cognoscenti, but as reliable performer nonetheless.

i am playing with it since a couple of weeks now, and i am enjoying it really a lot.
the sound quality is great, and programming it is very intuitive.
it has only one tiny drawback: the pedalboard is small, so the buttons are too close to each other.
anyway, i can't imagine anything better for this price!

Line 6 M13 Stompbox Modeler Review

Line 6 M13 Stompbox Modeler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The M13 is an outstanding piece of gear. I've never really loved Line 6's amp/cab modeling stuff. I had the HD147 and liked it for a couple years. But I could never get the tone I wanted. Then I bought a tube amp. A Crate Palomino V32. But lost all the versatility with effects. So then I bought the POD X3L. It had no depth and took all the character out of the amp. So I went the all pedal route. Boss DD-20, L6 Verbzilla, Seymour Duncan Twin Tube Classic overdrive pedal. Blackstar HT-Dual OD/Dist, etc. I was really happy!!
Then I saw the M13. I was totally floored by how many different effects that were in there and the versatility of routing the "pedals" in order of one another. ITS SO VERSATILE!! The effect quality is right up there with their 4 button stomps (DL4, MM4, DM4, and FM4) after all it was designed to encompass all of those pedals into one package that has a footprint that is just a couple inches bigger than 2 of the 4 button stomps.
The tone of my amp stays the same, and I have all of the delays, reverbs, mods that I could ever use!! You can still use any of your analog pedals (I still have my Blackstar) because there is an onboard effects loop and you can route your existing effects before, after, or anywhere in the middle of the M13. Its incredible!!
I'm so happy I bought this pedal, and it was worth every single penny!! Try one out for yourself and you'll be pleasantly surprised with it!! If you don't like Line 6 gear because you're a tube junkie, forget all of what you thought you knew about Line 6 and try this pedal as soon as you can. I think Line 6 may have taken a new turn with their products and this is definitely an awesome new direction for the company. This pedal rocks!!!

Boss ME25 Guitar Multi Effect Pedal Review

First of all not having the power adapter shipped in with this was a major turn off for me. Why it has to be sold separately?! doesn't make any sense to me. The effects are alright, the individual sounds needs time to get used to it. I am currently experiencing latency coming from the USB plug (even the plug wasn't included as well).
Overall its a fun multi effect i like the loop recording ability.
The not included things were very annoying for me.

Wow. What a pedal! It completely outshines the TS-808 Reissue and costs over $100 less. What could be better? I did a side by side comparison with these two and the Monkey just screamed! The sweetest tone that I've ever heard! Woot! The tonal varieties with the 4 knobs, in combination with your guitar's volume, gives you from crackling tube amp to revved up Big Muff type sound. If you play blues, classic rock, or even some heavier rock, this pedal is a must for you. Make any solid state amp sing like an old Fender tube that's cranked to 11!

Average Reviews:

I already had two Behringer stompboxes, and am thinking of adding a few more, so I thought rather than having a mess on the stage, I'd get a pedalboard. I hadn't really studied them too much, except to note that they all seemed to be way more money than they were worth. Then, recently I found this one for less than a hundred bucks, so I really couldn't pass it up. I am very impressed with this unit. It is well made, well designed, and comes with all sorts of cords and accessories. Nothing is lacking to start playing right away. I'm not sure how easy other brands stompboxes will fit into this board (you may need to trim the foam that holds them in a little bit), but I think the board should be pretty universal for whatever you have. I am not disappointed in the least. I think you will like this board.
