Mini Cardioid Lavalier Microph Review

Mini Cardioid Lavalier Microph
Average Reviews:

For me this was an upgrade from the cheap ATR lapel mic. I heard these mics when helping another guy with his setup. I was blown away at how clear the voice is. I put them on my agenda to purchase as soon as the funds became available. I recently used these at an airshow with WW2 planes in the background. A very loud background. They worked perfectly to isolate the subject and reject the planes. In fact, I prepared for that and recorded a second audio source so that I could blend in the perfect level of engine noise to the background. I didnt want it too quiet with only the subjects being heard. I needed to have the viewer feel they were at the airport.
These mics are outstanding. Its not really a drawback but it is extra time to hook everything up. And you will have to have a method of getting an xlr source into your video camera. However you get that done will be worth it. These mics are worth every penny. The next step is around 800 and is not necessary for the semi-pro.
I just cant over how rich these sound. They are not tinty at all and have great bass. They are just a great step up from the cheap lavs that everyone starts out with. Combined with an HD vid cam, my videos are now completely professional sounding and looking.

For years this condenser microphone has been one of the top choicesin the industry for lavalier microphones and can be found installed inmany of the top wireless lavalier systems as well. It also can serve as an acoustic guitar mic mounted in the sound hole. The cardioid pickup pattern ensures the best possible pickup directly in front of the microphone while minimizing external noise, thus resulting in minimal feedback. The microphone comes with a tie/collar clip and terminates to a power module with battery. In place of the battery, the microphone can also be powered by 48 volt phantom power. Apex Electronics 460 Tube Microphone Review

I FOUND THE APEX 460 TUBE MIC TO BE COMPARABLE TO MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE STUDIO MICS.
I HAVE ONLY USED IT FOR VOCALS SO FAR AND I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE SWEAT
SOUND.THE MIC IS VERY QUIET WITH VERY LITTLE OR NO NOISE AT ALL.
THIS MIC IS A KEEPER AND I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH MINE.

One unique feature of this microphone is the nine different selectable polar patterns easily available from the selector switch on the front panel of the external power supply. Rather than limiting the user to the three popular patterns most commonly available, the APEX460 has three gradient stages between each pattern. This allows the studio engineer or home recordist far more versatility. In vocal applications where an omnidirectional pattern isn't quite 'fat' enough, but cardioid is too narrow, you now have three additional steps to find the right subtle mix between the two standard patterns. There are also three additional steps between cardioid and figure-8 pattern.Improved quality in affordable recording equipment has brought serious power to the home studio enthusiast or small project studio. The microphone is the first, and often most important link in the signal chain. The APEX460 is high performance, yet truly affordable large diaphragm condenser microphone. They are an outstanding choice for the main microphone for any professional studio, home studio, or any of the computer based direct to hard drive recording systems now available.Due to their rugged construction, high SPL handling capability and affordable price, the APEX460 is also an outstanding choice for live sound reinforcement or live recording. They have proven themselves as overhead mics for drum kits, for guitar or bass cabinets where superior sound quality and high sound pressure handling is required, or as the mic of choice for saxophones, flutes, acoustic guitars or acoustic bass where subtlety and clarity is paramount.Vocalists can use the proximity effect to their advantage, adding fullness and more "bottom end" to the voice. Experienced vocalists can easily incorporate it part of their overall microphone technique. Again, experimentation with mic placement during the recording process is the key. The omnidirectional polar pattern does not exhibit this effect.

Short cable, but I only use it for connecting my desktop mic to a F/W interface. I haven't used it for any intensive work so I don't know how robust it is.It looks sturdy though.

Audio Technica AT4050 Condenser Microphone Review

Audio Technica AT4050 Condenser Microphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been using this microphone for years. I have two of them, actually. I didn't buy them as a matched pair, so one is a bit brighter sounding than the other. That can be an advantage, as I use the darker mic for overly bright sound sources, and vice-versa. I've used these mics with good results in my project studio, on vocals, guitars, and hand percussion, and actually earned a major film festival award for music I created in that studio. I think the mics sound particularly good on female voices (as a number of reviewers have noted). The figure-of-eight pattern offers the flattest response curve, and I almost always use that for vocals. (The cardioid and omni pattern give more treble/upper mids boost--useful for some applications, but a little harsh on my voice.)
Bottom line: This is a well-made, versatile microphone that will do pretty much anything you ask of it.

Audio-Technica Pro 8HEx Headset Microphone Review

Audio-Technica Pro 8HEx Headset Microphone
Average Reviews:

I've worn this headset for 6 years to teach aerobics classes. It gets sweaty, bounced around and spit on but keeps on working. I teach in many different facilities and the sound quality is completely dependent upon the sound system - the microphone itself delivers high quality sound if used with a quality sound system.
One recommendation if you use it for teaching aerobics - spray Scotchguard on the windscreen (foam ball over the microphone). My first headset went eventually developed some problems due to corrosion from the sweat and spit. I Scotchguarded the windscreen on the next one I bought and have had no problems with it.

Audio Technica Pro Series Dynamic Headworn Microphone for Wireless Systems Review

Audio Technica Pro Series Dynamic Headworn Microphone for Wireless Systems
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Can't say how it works. It was recommended by a local store to go along with Audio-Technica's PRO 88W VHF wireless microphone systems that are designed for use with a camcorder. However, upon receiving both items, I discovered the headset has a 4-pin connection, and the wireless set accepts 3.5mm pin. The descriptions clearly state this. I just didn't read it, since I was going on 'professional' advice. My bad. I will say, the headset does seem to be well made, for the price. It's probably a great buy if it has the right connection for your system.
That being said, American Musical Supply, who the headset was ordered from, was exceptional fast in responding to my request for a RA# to return the headset. Credit was promptly applied to my account. I will shop with them in the future!

Audio Technica AT2020 Side Address Cardiod Condensor Studio Mic Review

Audio Technica AT2020 Side Address Cardiod Condensor Studio Mic
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let's face it...I'm just a hobby musician. A guy in his mid-30's who has tinkered with music most of his adult life. I've played both as a solo artist and with bands. I've also been fortunate enough to spend time in actual recording studios with true professionals. None of this qualifies me as an expert...but I do have a certain level of familiarity on the subject.
I purchased this mic to supplement my home studio. I was hoping to get a little better sound than my usual stable of dynamic mics provide. I think I got pretty lucky with this purchase - it's my understanding that in this particular price range, you shouldn't expect a whole lot. I mean, it's just a microphone, right?
What I will say is that I was certainly satisfied with my purchase. I've used this microphone in conjunction with a tube preamp on a handful of recordings with great success. I bought this with the intention of using it for vocals, but I've found that I actually prefer it to record my acoustic guitar - this microphone picks up all the sound that I'm looking for from my acoustic - it's the nice, mellow, and full bodied sound that I hear when I'm playing, but that I was never able to capture before. In terms of its originally intended use, I felt is was only a slight improvement over the SM58 that I typically used for vocals - however, I wouldn't put too much stock into my assessment, as vocals are not one of my strengths when it comes to music (let's face it, autotune was created for a reason, right?)
Granted - everyone is going to have different opinions of this product, and I happen to think it works great for those of us on a budget. In terms of value - it is a great product for a fantastic price. I liked this microphone so much, I plan on buying at least one more.

Audio-Technica AT2035 Large Diaphragm Studio Condenser Microphone Review

Audio-Technica AT2035 Large Diaphragm Studio Condenser Microphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After tedious amounts of research, this little guy is now my very first mic for home recording. I wondered what more I'd be getting for the extra $30 compared to the 2020, but now I would seriously recommend it to anybody, from starters in the studio to the professional level.
First of all, just to clarify the mic itself is actually BLACK. the SILVER mic occasionally in the picture is actually the AT3035 (discontinued model).
SOUND: The sound quality is superb. Crisp and more of a flat response (which is what you're looking for if you want the closest sound to what you hear) compared to most other mics. I can honestly say that it has helped me improved my mediocre singing for how true of a sound it gives off, allowing me to adjust the different levels it captures. I tend to use my vocal cords too much for bassier notes, and this does a nice job of letting me hear it (you could also use the low-cut switch to "cut" some of these low frequencies). Connected to my Fast Track Pro w/o any external preamps, I couldn't ask for a better-sounding mic. It is a great improvement over the AT2020 in terms of noise level (low SPL), a much better response to higher frequencies, and overall a wider range and selection with the additional low-cut filter and db pad. With an extra bit of EQing, this microphone will give you just the sound you want.
USES: This is really a great all-around instrument/vocal microphone. Great for recording acoustic guitars, as it really captures the boominess of my Silver Creek dreadnought and also the mellow sounding high chords. It won't sound exceedingly harsh in front of guitar amps either. For vocals, it gives off a very neutral sound, giving off warm mid-range sound to smooth sound on the high end. Basically, all the characteristics and strengths you would expect from a well-built LDC.
MISC: It comes with a nice, sturdy shock mount to match it, normally which would cost you ~$50 more if you were to, say, buy the 2020. Also a includes a protective vinyl bag to keep the dust off.
PRICE: Possibly the best in its range. The only other microphone I would compare it to at this price range (~$100) is the ghetto-looking MXL V67G, which sounds great for those looking for more color & brightness in the higher ends for vocals. However, the AT2035 is still what you'd be looking for if you want all-around clear and flat sound.
CONS: Have yet to find any.
To sum it up, really consider going for the extra features on this bad guy. It is the 2020 without the shortcomings you'd generally find in lower-budget mics (tinny highs, noise level, bass roll-off issues). I'm glad I settled on this, and I can't wait to see what it'll bring me in the future.
