Avion MAV1 Black Finish Review

Avion MAV1 Black Finish
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this guitar for my son based on the product description and it's smaller size. It seemed solidly built and did not feel like a "Toy" guitar and the 185 DOLLARS we spent was definitely not a toy price. But we were(and are) constantly frustrated with it's complete inability to stay in tune and once in tune it will not "play" in tune. The neck is not rigid and can be visibly bent with only slight pressure causing total loss of tone. Any pressure beyond the lightest touch on the strings causes horrible tone problems. I have played guitar for 12 years and this guitar is simply USELESS due to tone problems.(even for a beginner) I can not play it, my son cannot play it, and his guitar teacher cannot play it in tune. It is now a wall decoration. I had to buy my son another guitar (an OLP MM1, a fantastic guitar for $200) for his guitar lessons. Save your money, DO NOT BUY THIS WORTHLESS GUITAR.

Many players love the look of an arch top solid body but are not aware of the incredible performance benefits it generates. The arch top adds mass for rigidity under the bridge, preventing the body from stealing energy off the string. This may add some weight, but the improvement in attack and sustain is worth it. The maple top on a mahogany body provides serious definition with an amazingly warm tone. The set neck single cutaway design creates a tight connection between neck and body for optimum string performance. Mini - Bolt on 1 humbucker 1 vol., 1 tone Rosewood Fingerboard

Yamaha HS50M 5" Monitor Speaker Review

Yamaha HS50M 5 Monitor Speaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Yamaha HS-50M studio monitors are excellent tools to listen to and work with. On audition at Digital Village I compared them to other small studio monitors by having a CD with acoustic guitar music fed through them. The bite and colour of strings through the Yamahas were reproduced very well. That was enough, I bought them.
I have been using these monitors for almost a year now. They have a fine combination of qualities, and are very serious sounding; certianly not for children, or to play about with. They are for solid work, research, and of course, monitoring.
These Yamahas may lack the real lower thunder bass around 20-40Hz, do not let that put you off, for they can still produce the thunder bass frequencies centred above this. My floorboards rattle and move below my feet due to the low frequency energy coming out of these speakers, and you can hear thuds and thumps captured on certain recordings. Thus quite simply, yes, there is enough bass reproduction here to hear. It all depends on the source quality.
The HS-50M's are very clean sounding, and cymbals have got a natural shimmer and ring. Front and back depth is good, and stereo images shift as necessary. Vocals have a realness and closeness as they should. You can hear the woody resonance of certain guitar notes resound through your chest, and the dynamic range and dynamic capability of these speakers are excellent. They also can be amazingly subtle and gentle.
When testing a wide range of music and sound sources they very clearly make it known their origin, be it a live TV studio or compressed artificial recording.
But the overall beauty of these Yamaha's is because they are so transparent, when listening to old favourites they can bring tears to your eyes, as they accurately portray an era, atmosphere, and emotion.
Highly Recommended.

Epiphone Valve Jr. Junior Supreme Mod Kit Review

Epiphone Valve Jr. Junior Supreme Mod Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great modification for an Epiphone Valve Jr. If you have never done something like this before, you might want to practice your soldering skills first. You will need a 25 to 30 watt soldering iron, and a solder sucker. Radio Shack sells just what you need - a sucker with a red bulb that works perfectly. Fromel's instructions are not terribly clear, and I would make sure you have exactly what is supposed to come in the package (there is a chart on the instructions - take the time to figure them out). The Epi Jr is very easy to disassemble, but you will definitely need an Exacto type knife to cut through (take your time) some of the glue that is used to secure some of the components to the board. After I figured everything out in the instructions, I removed and replaced one component at a time. There are suggestions and videos on YouTube on the internet for techniques on how to remove and install capacitors and resistors from a circuit board, but if you can practice on something that has no value (if you have no experience), I would try that first. Remember, soldering irons and suckers only work from the back side, not the side with all the components!
When I got it all done and put things back together, (I also replaced the stock tubes with Mullard Reissue tubes) it sounded AMAZING! More power and tone, and you can really tell. Also less hiss in the background. My only suggestion would be for Fromel to update and clarify the directions. It is not so scary as it seems. Just remember, if your amp is under warranty, doing this voids it so you are on your own if something goes wrong.

Unleash the tone of your Epiphone Valve Jr. The Valve Jr is quickly becoming one of the best selling tube amps, it has pretty good tone and the price is right. However, these amps can tend to be a bit noisy and sound a bit thin. After these mods your amp will sound fantastic, with less noise and be more reliable. After these mods the tone will rival that of boutique amps costing many times more. Your Epiphone Valve Jr may be small in size but it doesn't need to sound small. This kit works for all versions of the Valve Jr. Both the Head and the Combo.Included in the kit is all the components necessary to get your amp in top shape and the detailed instructions to make the changes easy. If you have a basic understanding of electronics and soldering skills you can do these mods in less than an hour.WARNING: Performing these modifications WILL void the warranty on your amplifier. Working on amps can be deadly if you do not take proper precautions. Follow these instructions very carefully. If you are at all unsure of your ability to perform these modifications STOP and take your amp to a professional to be modified. You can also send your amp to me for modification. No Warranty: This kit and the instructions included do not include any warranty of any kind. The modifications to your amplifier are at your own risk and you agree to completely hold harmless the seller of this kit against any and all claims. Tube amplifiers contain parts that operate at very high temperatures and deadly voltages. If you are not sure of your abilities to perform these modifications then do not perform them.

This amp has a cooling fan, unlike the Alesis amp I was replacing. Fans make noise, and noise is bad.
