Fender Blues Jr. Supreme Mod Kit - for USA amps Review

Fender Blues Jr. Supreme Mod Kit - for USA amps
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just had my nearly 15 year old, American made, green board Blues Jr. modified by Marc Ferguson of Ferg Amp repair in Nashville, Tn. We used the Fromal Blues Jr. Supreme Mod kit. It completely transformed the amp. The Amp had almost completely died. No after market speaker or tube combination could help the amp. The amp had no power, no punch, clarity or overall tone. The tone stack had no effect on the amp. After installing the alternate resistor values, reverb mod and the orange drop/silver mica caps offered in the mod kit, the amp has been brought back to life. The amp now has great bass response, sweepable mids and clean, crisp highs. The amp was further enhanced by new tubes from Ferg and transformers from Heyboer. I can now use the amp by it's self with out any pedals and I get great vintage tone.
I've been playing guitar for over twenty years, and have been gigging professionally for about half that time and I highly recommend this amp mod for any player that wants to open up their blues jr. Don't perform these mods your self if you don't know what you're doing. Take it to a qualified tech. Don't risk damaging your amp or possibly exposing your self to potentially lethal voltages.
Enjoy:)

Randall Kirk Hammett Signature RX Series Heads/Combos, KH15 Review

Randall Kirk Hammett Signature RX Series Heads/Combos, KH15
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Of course the amp they'll send won't be the KH75. I'm seeking a practice amp, but it would be nice if I got the other. I'm sure I could find room for a KH75. I did notice the wrong description, and I'm sure someone could complain enough about that and end up nowhere, but the shipping does confirm 17lbs (KH15.)
EDIT:
It's here and it does rock the way it should. There are many adjustments suitable for a begginer's amp, but sound quality is of course much better than one would typically expect from a 15w box. This is the second one I've played on, sounds just like I remember. Now I've got my own to replace the 10w Washburn-out.

This was my first amp, and at first I didn't see a difference. I was going to just stick with analog amps because they were cheaper, until I went to try a new one. It didn't sound nearly as good as this. This sounds JUST like a real tube amp, it's amazing. I would definitely recommend this to someone who wants a good amp for a decent price. I've had it for about 2 years now, it's really worth it.

Marshall MG15FX Guitar Combo Amplifier - 8 Inch, 15 Watts Review

Marshall MG15FX Guitar Combo Amplifier - 8 Inch, 15 Watts
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this for my son to practice on. It sounds pretty good and sounds like a Marshall but it's fairly noisy - even on the clean setting. Also, I think it's outclassed by the new amps from Line-6 and Fender - particularly the Mustang I. I'll be exchanging his for the Mustang I which sound cleaner, can sound like a small tube amp, a Marshall and others for the same price. I think the Fender is a better value and more versatile.

The 15 watt MG15FX includes an 8 inch speaker, four switchable channels, and a 3-band EQ that lets you shape your tone. Marshall\'s exclusive, groundbreaking FDD circuitry gives the MG4 Series the unbelievable depth of sound and unique feel of their legendary, all-tube amps. It does this by emulating the way an all-tube power amp interacts with the speaker(s) it is driving. The easy to use panel controls include gain, followed by a three-band EQ, volume and Master Volume. On the MG15FX guitar amp combo, the 4 channels are Clean, Crunch, OD1 and OD2. Switching seamlessly between channels is easy with the push button controls. Plus the amp features two modes: Preset and Manual. Preset mode stores the position of all the controls except the master volume while the manual mode is the actual physical position of the controls. Settings for each channel can be customized and saved for instant recall. The MG15FX provides two simultaneous effects, Reverb and one of these four digital effects (Chorus, Phaser, Flanger or Delay). The Delay can be manually set using the front panel Tap button. The combination line out/headphone out features speaker cabinet emulation, giving you full Marshall sound when recording or practicing through headphones. be careful- this is a bogner design built by line6. Read the blogs, line6 has very poor support for their products! Also, After blowing a few fuses and having a little peak at the organs, I found many connections that were tweaked with the use of a glue-gun. It was sold as new but I question that now! Do your research. I decided to return it and purchase a kit andbuild my own!

Alchemist\' spins the visions of discerning guitarists into gold.Boasting sparkling, articulate cleans, touch-sensitive leads and a bright and colorful crunch, the all-tube Alchemist is a modern take on vintage amp design. Its remarkable tonality it owes to a 6L6 class-AB power section, featuring five 12AX7 preamp tubes and premium Celestion speakers. Its timeless appeal, though, it owes to classic innovation, modern ingenuity and its namesake, an entrancing ancient mysticism. Alchemist exhibits a two-channel design, each channel with its own voice and identity. Beginning clean and fast, featuring an open top-end and tight bottom-end, Channel 1 opens gradually to present simmering blues tones that churn like spirits in a cauldron. Advancing toward saturation, Crunch mode turns up the heat adding the perfect touch of nastiness with added pick response and increased tonal complexity. Channel 2, achieving critical mass, invokes the famous white-hot Bogner gain—creamy, modern and screaming with sustain—offering everything from Brit rock right through to modern metal. Plus, with variable Bright settings, each channel can be customized to match the tone of your guitar and rig.Featuring a selectable power section, from 40 to 20 watts, the Alchemist sonority quickly transforms to display a very different kind of magic. When switched to 20 watts, Alchemist undergoes a complete sonic metamorphosis, changing its harmonic complexity and feel to conjure the essence of the legendary Brown sound.Reverb and Delay, in variable styles and levels, run in parallel separate from the original signal. The result is a rich, living and breathing, fully realized resonance capable of producing a complete tonal landscape. Alchemist also includes a four-button footswitch and a parallel effects loop.

I just bought this beauty and Im just amazed! the tone is so clear jet punchy. The overdrive can go hard rock levels but I dont consider that it can go further than that without lacking that metal punch you get in amps like Mesa,Marshall or other Orange models. It can be done I guess but it doesnt sound right to me. This is a the perfect amp for practice, recording and even for a small gig band. It is loud! Orange is the kind of amp that has 35 but sounds like a 50W so u can play side by side with a drumer with no problems at all. Eric johnson, ACDC,ZZTOP,and countless other bands tones are achivable with this combo.

Love It,. have spent considerable time this weekend with some of the included backing tracks,. A Lot of Lick Building Fun. Sounds Fantastic for a solid state amp. I was debating on spending a bit more for a killer tube amp ,. but liked all the options and diversity of this gdec3. So far, I am very happy and not dissapointed by my choice. The software (Fender Fuse) is pretty cool but will definitely need some improvement,. like drag and drop new presets and songs as backing tracks. Otherwise very cool. Would be perfect if it had a simple recording feature., like say 4 tracks.

ZT Lunchbox 200-watt 1x6.5 Guitar Combo Amplifier Review

ZT Lunchbox 200-watt 1x6.5 Guitar Combo Amplifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This amp will not blow away a quality amp with a bigger speaker.
But, for a 9 lb amp, it's remarkable.
Out of the box, it is very dry and even a little harsh sounding, but, with some outboard reverb and EQ, it can sound quite good. It retains its sound quality at high volume (I played it with keys, bass and drums and had no problem with volume). You forget how small the thing is.
I rated it 4 stars because there are better sounding amps (although they are bigger) and because it requires outboard FX to sound good at all.

Since hitting the streets in February 2009, the ultra-compact ZT Lunchbox amplifier has changed the way many players think about amps. The Lunchbox has proven that an amp does not need to be big to be loud, or expensive to sound great. That you can actually gig with an amp that weighs less than 10 pounds. Doubters have become believers – The Lunchbox really delivers.

Packing 200 watts of power, the Lunchbox has enough output for a jam or live gig, and world-class tone that has pros using it in the studio as well as onstage. Unlike any other amp close to its size, it has the muscle to handle any effects you throw in front of it, and the warmth and depth to sound great with single-coil pickups as well as humbuckers.

Go ahead, plug in and see for yourself. Then, lift your jaw up off the floor, toss your Lunchbox in a backpack with some cords and pedals, and get out there and play!

Features:
Ambience effect (open-back cabinet simulation)
Variable Headphone/DI Output
Custom Ultra-High Performance 6.5" Speaker, Switchable

This 10" cab is better matched to the Little Giant 5watt head, and gives the same boomey lows with much punchier mids and highs. I went with 2 of these to make a mini fullstack that will rattle my doors and windows. I highly recommend this cab- especially over the 12" version. I purchased this amp at Guitar Center locally for the same price listed here.. $159. I can say that I do not regret my choice over a Marshall or Peavey. Don't let the lack of knobs and buttons fool you. If you play with the gain and overdrive, you can pull out anything from John Mellencamp to Queen to AC/DC to Black Sabbath. The on board FX are spot on and sound beautiful and professional. It is very easy to produce a nice, full range acoustic sound as well. I was a little hesitant with my choice at first, but after playing with the amp for a few days, I wouldn't give it up for anything. Volume is what is expected for a practice amp. For general playing, I never put it over 2 or 3. I did put it up to 5 once, and I do not see why you could not keep up with drums at that level. I don't see this amp gigging, maybe a very small club or lounge, but it does what it was intended to do.. and it does it well.
I really wish this model was foot switch compatible, but I knew it wasn't when I purchased it. I suppose most people use pedals anyway. But the quality of sound and effects from this amp is awesome.

Vox MINI3 3 Watt Modeling Guitar Amplifier Racing Green Review

Vox MINI3 3 Watt Modeling Guitar Amplifier Racing Green

The 3W Mini 3 has more output than my 15 W Kustom, and the Mini can be powered by 6 AA batteries for complete portability.
The affects are fairly good. I think in this price range I would have expected very meager modeling and affects; but no, they make significant differences in the sound produced.
By the way, we play an electric/acoustic bass on it at times. NO trouble at all with the low E string. For informal jam and small room work, this amp is really a dream come cheap.
Compare it online with the Orange Crush for a bit less money, for example, and you'll see there's a major difference between the two.

VOX Pathfinder 15R Guitar Combo Amplifier - 1x8 Inch, 15 Watts Review

VOX Pathfinder 15R Guitar Combo Amplifier - 1x8 Inch, 15 Watts
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is one of my favorite guitar amps. For the money, you can't get any better. And you won't find too many things for twice the price that sound half as good.
The built-in 8" speaker leaves something to be desired (the break up is uneven), but the amp comes with a Line Out and an Speaker Out for an 8-ohm extension cab. The amp sounds decent with the built-in speaker, but plug a 1x12" cabinet and wow, it really comes to life! Some inexpensive 1x12" cabinets include the Epiphone Valve Junior Extension Cabinet, 1x12 or Crate Blackheart BH112 Little Giant 1X12 Guitar Cabinet. Both of them are 16-ohm cabs but they work fine. I find that the Epiphone sounds a bit smoother with the amp, but the Blackheart gives it more edge and definition, so it's up to you what you like. I prefer the Epiphone myself, but the nice thing about those two cabs is that they're the identical size, so you can put them side by side or make a mini stack and then daisy chain the two if you feel like it.
As this is a 15 watt solid state amp, don't expect much clean headroom, but if you don't mind a bit of overdrive, this amp will keep up with a drummer in a rehearsal setting, if you use an extension cabinet. And it sounds very good cranked. If you want even more volume, you can use the line out into the PA, but that's only going to sound as good as your PA, so there's that. Just think about what a good deal this little amp is. It can drive cabs, it can sound good on its own, you can feed it to the PA, and it's very cool looking and lightweight to boot. You can definitely gig with this amp. Look at Feist, her stage setup consists of two of these suckers, and she makes enough money to be using more expensive stuff if she wanted to do so. All in all, this is a great practice amp and might be a good rehearsal/gigging/backup amp for you. For a beginner, this + an Epiphone cab should be a no-brainer at the price.
Keep in mind that the picture shows a black grill cloth but that you might receive one with brown grill cloth. That's good because the brown makes the Pathfinder look better, like it's a miniaturized AC30 or something, and who doesn't want that? And if it looks better, it must sound better, right? :)

The Pathfinder 15R is identical to the Pathfinder 15 but also features an onboard Spring Reverb system with a Reverb control that adjusts the level of the effect. With the classic good looks of its bigger brothers, the new 15 watt 1x8 inch Pathfinder combo packs a profusion of VOX style and sound into a highly compact and affordable package. Like other family members, it sports typical VOX characteristics like basket-weave vinyl, diamond grille cloth, white piping, gold beading and, of course, chicken-head pointer knobs. The Pathfinder 15 houses a wonderful sounding, vintage Tremolo effect and is extremely versatile when it comes to tone, its distinctive, maroon colored top panel features a Gain Boost switch plus controls for Volume, Gain, Treble, Bass, Tremolo Speed and Tremolo Depth. The Pathfinder 15 produces 15 watts of power that drives a specially voiced 8 inch VOX Bulldog speaker. In addition to a headphone output that mute the internal speaker for silent practice, the rear panel also has a specially filtered Line Out jack for recording/live work and an External Speaker output as well.

Fender Mustang I Electric Guitar Amplifier Review

Fender Mustang I Electric Guitar Amplifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bough this amp for my 9 year old son who is learning guitar for his Christmas present. I thought that since I love Fender guitars and since he has a mini Squier we'd like to get something in the Fender Family. I seriously expected a cheap imitation of a Line 6 Spider with a Fender logo slapped on it. I should have had more faith in Fender.
I am blown away by the sounds that come out of this amp. The AMP models are far more real and interesting sounding than any modeling tool I have ever used. The amps don't sound digital or processed, they actually sound overdriven when you crank the gain. You would swear that there are tubes in this thing when you listen to it. I can't get over the Bassman, the twin Reverb and the Deluxe. They sound so full and strong.
My biggest compliment of the Mustang is that it is the ONLY modeling amp that has great sounding Vintage tones. Line 6 has tons of metal stuff, and a lot of weird niche tones. Vox has never really made great modeling stuff. Digitech sounds super processed and the vintage tones are terrible.
If you play Blues, Rock, Classic Rock, Country, Funk etc... This amp is for you. There is just enough metal or heavy sounds to have a few choices for Modern Metal, but Metalheads might be better off with the Line 6 stuff.
The other great thing about this amp is how easy it is to tweak the tones using the amp controls. By looking at the controls, you know right where you are and what you have to do to edit your sound. You don't need to dive 5 levels deep into an LCD screen in order to make great sounding tweaks.
But if you like to go deep, you'll love the Fender Fuse software. It is easy to use and there are countless user submitted tones to help shape your sound.
The fact that Fender not only included FUSE with this amp, but also the Ableton recording software that is also pretty user friendly and fully usable without having to pay to upgrade anything, is just frosting on the cake.
I am a father of 4 who normally has to practice at night and being able to have an amp that can get quiet but still sound amazing, with the added features of a headphone jack and an AUX in, I can play whenever I want. I am actually selling my nice Tube amp and using the Mustang as my only amp for now, and I feel like I am not missing out on any features or downgrading my sound at all.
The value of this amp is amazing. People will shell out 2-3x as much for a Line 6 modeler, but the vintage tones will not sound anywhere close to as good as the Fender tones.

Line 6 Micro Spider 6-Watt Battery-Powered Guitar Amplifier Review

Line 6 Micro Spider 6-Watt Battery-Powered Guitar Amplifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Not a bad little amp - for what it is. VERY handy for portable practice, just got back from 2 weeks at the beach and it served wonderfully with my BluesHawk. Also turning out to be really convenient for quiet practice at home via headphones. Batteries (6Cs) and the included AC adapter both work fine. Built in tuner is convenient, it will get you real close at least.
I REALLY wish Line 6 would put (much) less emphasis on providing "Insane Rock Star Settings" - I guess its not hard to figure out their target audience, but come on - with only 5 amp models who really needs Crunch, Metal AND Insane?!? What about Blues (or even Twang)?...a model more for British/Classic Rock? Anyway, besides Clean, and a bit of Crunch, I do appreciate the inclusion of Acoustic mode for my Martin, which was a major reason I picked this amp over other similiar battery-capable ones (the other being that it's Line 6 as is my SV112 & Pocket Pod so functionality is familiar). Hmmm...but if it is for "portable practice", with an acoustic would one bother with an amp at all? Still, the choice is there for 'normal' practice situations.
Unfortunately, the sound does suffer through headphones, and background hum/noise are especially more evident. The same headphones sound much nicer and cleaner on my PPod. However I do not get the 'ground loop noise' with my Gibsons as I typically do through my SV - which is very good.
I did not try the CD/MP3 input yet - though the idea of using this as a speaker for an IPod is cool - definitely will make use of that.
I had a Roland Micro Cube for a very shot time, and that also functioned well. The amp model choices there were much more useful (for me), and I do not recall the headphones bringing down the sound quality.
