Radial ProRMP Studio Re-Amper Passive Re-Amping Direct Box Review

Radial ProRMP Studio Re-Amper Passive Re-Amping Direct Box
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My goal was to run all instruments (banjo, guitar, drums, bass, piano) through my yamaha mixer, into my loop pedal to record and layer loops, then from the loop pedal into my amp for play back. Line from mixer to amp was noisy and not very loud due to impedance mismatch from mixer line out to amp input. This re-amper did the trick. Matched impedance and allows me to pump everything through the mixer and into the looper/amp. No more plugging and unplugging and the mixer allows me to fine tune with all adjustments and levels for all instruments. I just click my loop pedal, play whatever instrument I want, record the loop, and then play back through amp. Also, I can line out to, and line back in, from mixer to my Mac for recording and editing in Garageband and then playback fro Mac through the mixer to the re-amper and amp. If I get another one, I can pump instrument signals through mixer to different amps. Sweet...

The Radial Engineering ProRMP is a 100% passive re-amplifier that takes a prerecorded track and re-amplifies it through a guitar amp or effects pedal creating new and exciting tones. Re-amping has been the "secret weapon" for countless recordings by the biggest names in the business and the process is often used on guitars, bass, keyboards, percussion, and even voice to create new textures! Plug and play and easy to use, the ProRMP Studio Direct Box connects from the recorder to your amp and effects units and does all the impedance matching for you. Just adjust the level to suit! The magic behind the Radial Engineering ProRMP's great tone is a custom-wound transformer that at once converts the balanced Low-Z source to a Hi-Z input for your amp while also acting as an electrical isolator to eliminate troublesome ground loops that can often cause buzz and hum in the sound.Like all Radial products, the ProRMP is built tough. Encased in a 14 gauge steel, the ProRMP employs a unique bookend design with a welded I-beam frame that protects it from damage and assures the PC board and solder points will not be stressed, adding durability. A full-bottom no-slip pad works double duty by providing plenty of stay put while also eliminating electrical contact points from guitar amp chassis bolts that could cause ground loops. The Radial ProRMP direct box gives you affordable professional re-amping for every recording studio.ProRMP applicationPlug a standard balanced cable from your recorder or mixer output to the ProRMP's XLR input. Connect the 1/4" ProRMP output to your instrument amp. Akai E2 Headrush Review

Akai E2 Headrush
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this after struggling with the Boss RC20XL; i could never get the loops timed perfectly. The switches on the Headrush E2 are more precise. I bought the E2 after seeing Mike Doughty use one live o i figured what the heck. I also found out this is the pedal K.T. Tunstall uses in her pedal board.

This unit has great headroom. A must if you use it in your amp's effects loop like I do. It's also switchable between loop and delay modes with the touch oif your foot, and so is the tap tempo of the delay.
Personally, i find the "multi head" delay feature to be totally useless. i mean, who has 2 to 4 amps to lug around for stereo effect?
Now for the downside. The "play" footswitch started acting flaky. That's when i found out how poor Akai's service is. All warranty work is outsourced to a 3rd party. The first rep i talked to argued whether or not i was actually having a problem and i had to virtually demand he write a service ticket out. What an a-hole. After receiving the unit back and i still had the issue, i called and got another warranty authorization from a nicer rep. Total turnaround was over a month.
After playing an outdoor show a few drops of rain landed on the exterior. Since then the delay will not adjust to the same speed it used to, i can't adjust it fast enough. Also the feedback control doesn't work right anymore. I am hesitant to send this back to Akai for yet ANOTHER repair.
The other peeve is the fact that this will not work without the wall wart adapter, which has a 5 foot cord. So i guess they are assuming I'll always use it no more than 5 feet away from a wall. Right? Ha.
In summation, great pedal, very versatile, just hope to God you don't need service. Take my advice.....GET THE EXTENDED SERVICE PLAN.

The Akai Headrush E2pedal continues on from where the award-winning Akai Headrush E1 left off. The new Akai E2 Headrush delay pedal brings delay, tape echo simulations and a looping recorder in one convenient pedal. User selectable delay options allow for maximum control of signal output and include several real-time timing and level adjustment selections as well as feedback level for repeats. The Akai Headrush can also simulate a 4-head analog tape echo machine and it is possible to set the spacing between these 'virtual' heads to create complex multiple delays and repeats. You can also set the decay characteristics of these heads. Furthermore, the outputs of each of these virtual heads appear on individual outputs for ultimate flexibility when used with an external mixing console. The LOOPING RECORDER mode allows you to record and overdub layer after layer of sound in real-time making the Headrush an unbelievable live performance tool. Depending upon which mode is selected, the left footswitch controls the on/off and play/stop functions while the right footswitch sets the tap delay time or recording and overdub options. The LED display indicates which effect in use and blinks in time showing the delay time selected. DigiTech Jamman Looper and Phrase-Sampler Pedal Review

DigiTech Jamman Looper and Phrase-Sampler Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Sorry folks...the JamMan just isn't quite ready as a reliable, live performance tool. Using a high-capacity compact flash card (1GB), my loops were consistently corrupted after about the 4th or 5th overdub (especially on loops of faster tempos). I tried several brand new cards and even exchanged the JamMan for another one. Same problem. The thing is built like a tank. Unfortunately, the problem with corrupted loops means that it's just not dependable enough to use in live performances. Believe me, you don't want to find yourself in the middle of a live performance and suddenly have an extra 1 or 2 beats magically show up in the middle of your loop. Probably not a good impression on your audience. :-) I've been in contact with DigiTech but no fix yet. Let's hope they find a fix to this problem soon.
You can check out the discussion on Yahoo's JamMan discussion group, for more details and examples of the problem. I would strongly recommend holding off on getting a JamMan right now. Give DigiTech some time to work out the bugs first. I realize not many people have reported this problem but it's there. As more people experiment with it, the glitch is making itself known.
I give it 2 stars for effort. If you don't intend to loop more than 3 or 4 layers, on smaller-capacity compact flash cards, you're probably okay. Even so, I wouldn't risk it in a live performance though.

Boomerang Boomerang III Phrase Loop Sampler Review

Boomerang Boomerang III Phrase Loop Sampler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm updating this review after updating the firmware. It now is fully functional. If you want a basic easy looper, get one of the simple Boss or Digitech pedals. If you want a POWERFUL and FLEXIBLE looper, get this one. The company is small (this is no mega corporate schtick), the looper sounds fantastic, built like a tank, and it has a surprisingly small footprint. You can read the manual on the company website to read about how many incredible and innovative features this looper has, but I personally love the ability to customize the buttons, play separate loops of different lengths, and set up a master loop (usually one measure "click" track) and then slave other loops to it. You can set it up to do about whatever you want. The only drawback is that it won't record loops within the unit, but thats isn't what it is designed for; its designed for serious live looping and flying without a net. I laugh in the face of danger! Ha! Ha! Ha!
This is a pedal designed by guitarists for guitarists. But I use it for guitar, sax, and vocal (you can use the Rang's stereo as two mono split channels!).
Five stars!!
Highly recommended!!!

Line 6 DL4 Stompbox Delay Modeler Review

Line 6 DL4 Stompbox Delay Modeler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Line 6 DL4 Delay Modeler, which debuted in 1999, has been a mainstay in my effects lineup since I bought it, which was in 2003. This pedal sounds beautiful.
I'm not going to get too much into what this pedal can do other than say it will satisfy all of your delay needs. All of the 16 delay settings sound super clean and they should since it's pure 24-bit.
Despite high praise of this product, it still retails for the same price: which is $249. I think this price is way too high considering it has been out for almost 10 years. I bought mine for $235.
What is also great about the DL4 is it can be used as a means to setup a two amplifier/stereo setting, which is one of the best things you can do for your sound I think.
When my pedal dies or if it ever does (my fingers are crossed right now), I'm going to be replacing it, because I can't live without it. I have been playing the guitar for 18 years, so I have many years of experience with effects pedals.
I knew this pedal was the one for me when I walked into a Guitar Center with hopes to try it out and see how I liked it. The salesman hooked me up and showed me a few things about it, which I still can't remember, and he finally talked about the looping function and this was my initial introduction to looping. I played a short melodic chord progression and then I overdubbed and stacked more chords on top of this progression and BAM! There it was, the sound I was looking for my entire life!
This experience has been a revelation to me and has sent me on many sonic adventures. If you do not own it, go down to your local guitar store and try it out and experience the sounds that have made the DL4 a classic.

The DL4 Delay Modeler offers you an incredible array of sounds, from a tube driven, tape loop echo (complete with adjustable wow and flutter), through 24 bit squeaky clean digital echo, to real-time reverse delay. Not only that, but you've got complete programmable control over all aspects of the sound in the studio and on the stage. Incredibly simple to use, it's an amazingly powerful tool offering you delay effects never before available in a single box. The DL4's digital modeling based on 15 of those vintage delay and echo effects you've always yearned for, and the Loop Sampler includes 14 seconds of memory + 800ms of Pre-delay (sort of a delay within a delay), and features half speed and/or reverse overdubbing, and more...

DigiTech JML2 JamMan Stereo Looper Phrase Sampler Pedal Review

DigiTech JML2 JamMan Stereo Looper Phrase Sampler Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I play with loopers a lot, and wanted to like this looper, but found it lacking. If you just want to store pre-recorded loops and recall them to play along with, it may be one of the better loopers out there. But for live performance looping, I find myself going back to my Boomerang III. The JamMan requires too much bending over, so its not optimized for hands-free operation. You can't play independent loops that are of different lengths. But it is easy to use and provides the ability to record and recall loops, so I could recommend it for folks who want a simple, easy, but inflexible looper. Also, why did they add an XLR mic input with no phantom power option? Silly! And you can't use a microphone in one channel and guitar in the other for split channel stereo voice and guitar. Silly! Back to my Boomerang, people!

Line 6 JM4 Looper Review

Line 6 JM4 Looper
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The JM4 Looper is way more than just a looping pedal. It's really a "band in a box" type of product. There are 200+ different custom guitar tones and over 100 backing tracks of various styles: rock, metal, blues, country, funk, pop, you name it. As with usual Line 6 gear, it's got built-in amp modeling for typical Fender / VOX and Boutique amp tones. As well as built-in reverb, flanger, echo, phaser, chorus etc. Its darned easy to just start jamming to the backing tracks. You can change the guitar tone, the amps etc. Even better, you can change the tempo and key. (however, if you change more than 2 half-steps some tracks distort weirdly.)
If you use the Line 6 JM4 Looper, you will no doubt get better in your playing. But if you're looking for "just" a looper, consider something else as you might get frustrated with all the features.

I had been looking for something to record ideas on the fly (not having to always set up my recorder...in the studio), that can be worked with later. The up side of this is, I can easley add on other parts to the same idea.
There's lots of options in this little package...some of which I haven't explored yet.
For the price (especially on "Amazon"), its hard to beat.
P.S. A time saver!

(More customer reviews)
I've had my Loop Station for a couple years and I still feel like there's plenty I don't know about it (of course I never read the manual!). What I do know, though, is that it's really easy to use. With just your feet, you can set the tap tempo, record a loop, then play over it, either recording or not. If you record a second loop over your first and don't like it, you can erase the most recent loop, again just with your feet. The one thing that this pedal doesn't feature that I would have liked is stereo outs--for that you have to upgrade to the RC-50, but that's way more pedal than I really need.

Boss RC-2 Loop Station Review

Boss RC-2 Loop Station
Average Reviews:

I just want to mention that the other reviewer got something wrong. He mentioned that when you find a drum beat you like and accidentally go forward to another beat that you CAN'T go back to the previous one..He's wrong you CAN go back. You have to select the little musical note and press the "tap tempo" button. But anyway..About my review..
To me this pedal is near perfect. And I absolutely love it. I feel like i cant play with out this now...
The features : There are a lot of drums beats to choose from and they can easily be changed into a different tempo if they are not as fast or as slow as you would like them to be. There is also 11 spaces to record your songs/phrases to. and 16 minutes of recording which is more than enough for me but if it had more time i'd be happier.
If you want to record clean sounds with the pedal then thats ok. But if you want to use distorted guitar sounds you need a distortion pedal to go before the pedal or else the drums will distort. So if you plan on buying this pedal to record rock songs you might want to invest in a distortion pedal.
This pedal is the closest thing i have to having someone else to play with. It's also a great tool for learning songs that have more than one guitar. You just gotta record each guitar but that doesn't matter because its a whole lot of fun anyway.
The first couple of minutes with this pedal might seem confusing and maybe frustrating for others. But after about 20 minutes or so you really start to get the hang of it and what it can do. The only problem i've had with this pedal is that right from the start the AUX input didn't work, forgivable this time because a lot of my amps and stuff already have AUX inputs. I love this pedal and so will you.. I rarely ever play with out it now. And for $150 its worth it..unless you want to buy it on musiciansfriend for 189. go for it.
I also recommend an adapter for it like with any pedal these suck out the batteries power like nothing.

DigiTech RP155 Guitar Multi-Effects Processor Review

DigiTech RP155 Guitar Multi-Effects Processor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is quite simply the best effects unit you are going to get for your $90. Period. Just the effects combos alone are worth several times that. Add the amp and cab models, and you've got something special. But even more than that, you also get a sweet drum machine. And then there is the phrase looper, which is just awesome! You can't get a DEDICATED phrase looper for less than $180!!! And to top it all off, you can go direct to your computer via USB to record, and also to edit the presets. This computer-based editing of the presets is the way to go. It's way easier to edit them via the software interface than by twiddling the knobs on the unit itself. You can really try out a lot of combos, and dial in the sound you are after pretty easily. You'll have to get your own USB cord though, the kind you'd use for a printer with one standard USB plug and one of those narrow-style USB plugs. I think they could have included one, but I'm not complaining. Oh, and how could I forget that this thing has true STEREO out. You can run it out to two amps, and really take advantage of the stereo effects like the panner and the ping pong delay. It has a nice headphone out that you can use as a personal earphone monitor too. That's a cool feature.
I'm using this for harmonica, and I can dial in a range of great amped tones and add effects as I please. I love the octave down and the leslie/vibrato/chorus simulators. Great organ tones there. I also love the wide range of delays and reverbs. There are so many great tones there to be had. Plus the thing has the ability to bypass all the amp and cab sims and just use the effects, so if you have an amp with good harp tone (ie. Like my Epiphone Vlave Junior that I modded for harps), this little pedal can be used in front just to add any/all effects you like. You'll only need this ONE pedal instead of e very expensive (and heavy) pedalboard full of individual effects. And you'll be able to dial in way more various effects combos than you could with that discreet pedal board.
This is simply the best bang for your buck. Period.

About the 20 second looper- 20 seconds might not seem like a lot of time, but considering the fact that you can dub-over trac after trac, it's more than enough time. All of the sounds it produces are "AMAZING". I'm doing things and creating sounds, and music I never dreamed of. I almost went with the RP155, but I'm glad I spent a little more and got the expression pedal, It's more than just a "volume" or "WAH" pedal. It's just a lot of fun. I have not begun to create my own music yet, but I will as soon as I install the cubase LE4 software. It's the best thing I ever bought for my guitar. I have a new found love for my giutar. I just can't say enough about it, but Digitech can. Go to Digtech.com- go to products, then RP255- and they have a nice little video "demo" on this and several other RP's. I did a lot of research befor my purchase, and this thing flat-out "BLOWS AWAY" the competition. More effects than the others- "USB" computer recording & editing- plus the looper. Try to find just the looper, not to mention all of the incredible effects this processor has on any other effects processor, it just can't be done, not even at twice the price! And I did some serious looking around.

I'd been using an RP350 for over a year before buying an RP355 for the added stomp-switch mode and 20-second looper.
The looper is simple, without undo or a means of controlling volume. Simplicity can be a plus for live performance, though. I did a solo improv performance after only 20 minutes of practice with the RP350. I've had more complex loopers that never got used due to the steep learning curve and higher probability of making mistakes.
The stomp-switch mode is a welcome addition, eliminating the need to sequence multiple patches in order to get different effect combinations. Unlike switching patches, there's no latency in turning an effect on or off.
The tuner is improved, being much less jittery than on the RP350.
The RP355 has nine new amp models and a ring modulator effect not present in the RP350. Some of the presets are different. As on the RP350, there are bound to be a few presets that'll satisfy most players, regardless of musical preference.
The RP355 sounds as good as the RP350, which is to say: great! Modelers work best in front of a full-range amplifier. I always play through a PA. I use a compact PA at home. When I play out I simply plug the RP355 into the venue's stage snake via the built-in DI.
I'm a former user of high-quality tube amps and boutique pedals who switched to modelers at the beginning of 2007; I've had no regrets. I've owned and auditioned more expensive modelers; the RP355 offers a desirable balance of features and simplicity at a very affordable price while not giving up much (if anything) to the high-end modelers in terms of sonic quality.
