(More customer reviews)I love my Hercules RMX, but as my shows are getting bigger I'm starting to produce some of my music and using more effects so I switched to the Steel. I love this mixer as I can program up to 12 effects and works great as a video mixer without paying the $6 grand for the pioneer. If I get that big, maybe I will cough up the money for the pioneer, for now this is under $250 and works great. I may one day get an effects controller to plug into my denon, for now this is the best of both worlds.

The portable, USB-powered Hercules DJ Control Steel offers dual mixing decks on a steel surface that's specifically designed for professional DJs who already have an audio interface, but need a reliable advanced digital mixer that offers a multitude of functions. I actually discovered this is a nice way to connect iPod to my stereo system. It provides nice output sound level and iPod finally sounds perfect on my main stereo. This last thing alone is an excellent reason to get this mixer.

(More customer reviews)Wonderful item, it does what it says it does. Out of the box, installation was less than 10 mins with installation of the software and drivers. I was up and running and after figuring out some of the functions that weren't that well described in the manual, pretty soon it took me back to the old days when I used to mix vinyl records. The problem is that the jog dials, though very responsive, aren't accurate enough for the scratching motions needed for turntablist hip hop scratching. You can scratch and do pullbacks and do some scratch tricks, just don't expect to be mixmaster mike with this fader. There is a little latency from the movements of your wrist and the actual sound coming out of the speakers. For fading in between songs it is fine, and for minimal scratching it is ok at best. Otherwise, for everything else, it is a wonderful toy for the hobbyist dj, you can loop, sample and add effects with ease. But smoke and mirrors aside, professionals should definitely look elsewhere, and they wouldn't be reading up on something like this anyway with their purist attitude.

Laptop stand on the back, DMX controller, 4u mixer, 2u CD player all on the top. 2u Amp, 2u CD player base, and a power outlet 1u rack fit in front with room to store stuff like cords. The handles support a lot of weight, and the corners are protective. The front and rear cover stay on with Velcrow, but are tight. The lid is low profile and had a cheap clip style latch that comes open. I prefer butterfly latches. Everything fits well inside and lines up well. It was good for the price.
