Behringer OD100 2-Mode Overdrive/Distortion Review

Behringer OD100 2-Mode Overdrive/Distortion
Average Reviews:

Yeah, I know, you get what you pay for.... I figured with electronics the way they are today, even a cheap unit would be pretty good, but I was disapointed. It is barely better then the cheap fuzz box I had 20 years ago. Additionally, the electronic switch is very touchy and keeps swapping in and out (the humidity in my house is a bit low this winter).
For 10 bucks more, the one my nephew bought has a much better sound and more change in sound as you play with the controls.

Fulltone GT-500 Distortion and Overdrive Booster Review

Fulltone GT-500 Distortion and Overdrive Booster
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been playing guitar for some 20 years or more and it's the simple things that get my attention as far as gear goes, keeping my attention is a hard thing to do with gear. Face it; we all do the same things, nice new pedals, great looking guitars, or amps that we can't live without. Wow...It's called G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). In the end we keep the things that work and the rest of the "stuff" gets sold on eBay (for a loss in most cases). Fulltone pedals have become the "attention holders" for me now. I have 3 on my pedal board (OCD, GT-500, and the Octafuzz) along with some MXR time based effects. The GT-500 is the most versatile distortion pedal that I have used period. The thing is built like a tank, has simple controls and it is really 2 pedals in one. The clean boost side has tone controls to fine tune if needed and a Drive control that will add a slight amount of grind for great 60's and 70's rhythm tones. The volume is for output and output is has, with lots of throttle so look out, it will seriously drive a tube amp into OD. The Distortion side has volume and drive controls. Just set the drive up past 1 o'clock and it grinds wicked. There are 2 unique things on this pedal that I love: 1. the mids frequency control for the distortion side (it's an inductor like in a WAH pedal, scooped Mids anyone?). 2. The switch that allows you to choose the order of the pedals, booster into distortion (Very High Gain!!) or distortion into booster (Very Loud!!). Wicked tone from fat warm distorted Fender amp to the distinct shrill grinding of a Marshall or overdriven Vox. It's all in there, just need to find your tone. It costs more than most pedals but it's really 2 pedals in one so look at it that way. It's the last one I plan on buying. Try it, then keep it...

Discrete F.E.T Hi-Gain Distortion and Overdrive Booster IN ONE BOX. You could think of them as 2 separate pedals. or think of them as stages to be linked together for endless combinations. Hi-Gain side has Volume, Distortion knobs, Bass, Mid, and Highs minipots. Booster Side has Volume, Overdrive knobs, Bass and Highs minipots. (these new hi-Q sealed minipots don't break BTW) Hard clipped distortion (the way most pedals achieve distortion) at one point in a circuit can be cool, but stage after stage of FET (GT-500) is very real, very amplike, has ridiculous amounts of sustain even at low volume, does the great chunky low string rhythm stuff and cleans up incredibly well when you turn down the guitar's volume. The GT500 contains 9 x FET's, 2 Mosfets and 1 x Transistor with no opamps or clipping diodes used. What's special about the EQ? The Hi-Gain side has a discrete Inductor-Driven Midrange circuit....never been done in a pedal before. Yes there's a wah wah inductor inside the pedal that gives the Midrange control its ability to drastically increase or decrease the entire Low Mid, Mid, and Hi-Mid frequencies, to comical proportions. All this is done without any opamps because all of the active 3 Band EQ's I've tried are horrible, killing all harmonics, all excitement, and sounding as sterile as the "EQ" in a Digital Recording Program. Nope, this has 100% discrete matched FET's ;) This Mid control mixed with a strong Bass and Treble control help give the GT-500 the ability to dial in more variations than a simple tone control, which can only roll off the Highs. What's the "Series switch" in the middle do? The Series Select Switch allows you to choose which pedal comes first (allowing you to instantly change the order of the 2 circuits) Booster Distortion or Distortion Booster for example: A clean boost slamming into the front end of a Distortion sounds way different than a distortion followed by the clean boost...and when the EQ's of the respective...

ISP Decimator Noise Reduction Pedal Review

ISP Decimator Noise Reduction Pedal
Average Reviews:

Usually these type of pedals don't work well at all. This pedal gets the job done. For extremely high gain try two - one after the guitar - one after the efx pedals. It actually works.

ISP Technologies presents the latest generation in Noise Reduction technology, the DECIMATORTM NOISE REDUCTION SYSTEM. From the original inventors of HUSHTM noise reduction comes the latest, most advanced, patent pending, state of the art technology in real time noise reduction. The Decimator offers a revolutionary breakthrough in Noise Reduction processing with an unparalleled level of performance. The HUSH system, as well as all other noise reduction systems suffers from one major problem inherent in their design: The system cannot be immediately responsive to very short-term staccato notes. The typical downward expander noise reduction system suffers from a dead zone in the release response characteristic which causes a compromise in tracking both fast decaying notes and long sustained notes. The Decimator design offers a novel approach to tracking the envelope of the input signal called Time Vector Processing. Due to this novel approach in controlling the expander, the Decimator system will instantly respond to short staccato notes and, at the same time, will provide a very slow ripple free control of long sustained notes. This means that the Decimator noise reduction system is the most transparent and highest performance noise reduction system available.

Spectraflex Braided Series Pedal Cable, Dual Right Angle Plugs, 6 Inch, Tweed Review

Spectraflex Braided Series Pedal Cable, Dual Right Angle Plugs, 6 Inch, Tweed
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These six-inch pedal/effect connectors are BURLY! This is lifetime gear as far as I'm concerned, with the highest quality right-angle jacks I've ever seen, a very heavy duty strain relief that completely locks out any uscrewing of the connector (i've had that problem on lower quality right-angle cords/plugs), and of course the spectraflex jacketing.
I haven't been a fan of using spectraflex for each and every cord, because the stiff jacket, in some lengths and for some uses, causes more kinks than it solves, and the cover can get fuzzy over time. But what more could I ask for in a short pedal connection cable? I basically want it to be immortal... a piece of gear that I will never have to question or test or replace, because I know that there's no way the conductors could get damaged short of cutting into it with a knife. These cables live up to that level of expectation. Pedal-to-pedal cords are the ones you're going to fold into tight bends all the time, and what better than this woven jacket to prevent that from crimping the conductors over time. And though the jacket is stiff enough to protect against that, it doesn't resist bending into a U-turn just like you need it to in between pedals.
One warning: The right-angle plugs are so well connected and the jacket and strain reliefs are so strong that these plugs are always going to point in the same direction. If you need them to face opposite directions like a letter "Z" you might want a cheaper cable.

DigiTech RPx400 Multi Effect Pedal Review

DigiTech RPx400 Multi Effect Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had my RPx400 since it came out in late spring of 2003, and I feel I've run the full gamut of emotions with the thing. First off, I switched to the RPx400 from an RP200 -- that said, most of the effects are identical. The RPx400 is virtually the same as an RP300 processor... Until you plug it in to your PC.
As far as amp models and effects go, it's a Jack of all trades, but not really a true master of any. Not that it's a bad thing -- just, if you're looking for that Mesa Dual Rectifier tone, you're not going to get it here. The RP series have always sucked at uber-heavy distortion sounds, but you can do a convincing Metallica/Megadeth setup using either the Stack or HiGain models. I've found that 90% of my custom patches use Stack, since you can dial in such a wide array of tones just by changing the gain. The delay is nice... Pretty standard fare for the RP series. Can't complain. Reverb, same story. And then there are the mod effects. WOW. I just wish I could have more than one at a time -- the only ones that sound kind of cheesy are the Whammy and Pitch effects. They're choppy as all hell, but if you keep the effect volume turned down, you can use them for some interesting over/undertones. Just don't expect your guitar to sound like a bass when you use the Whammy->OctDN setting. But AutoYa and YaYa alone are worth getting one of these pedals for. Unique, to say the least -- try Ya-Yaing harmonics. It's sweet.
The wah sounds are OK. I've heard a lot of ill comments toward the "Cry" setting, and I admit, it's nowhere near vintage Dunlop. The "Botique" wah is quite cool, however. Then there's the full-range wah, which is great for a filter, if you are so inclined.
I also overuse the hell out of the A/B switching for the "virtual" amp channels, along with the expression pedal as a delay setting. The processor's VSwitch technology lets you switch from using the expression pedal as a level for, say, a mod effect, straight into wah-wah mode. Great if you don't want wah on all the time, or want to switch from a solo back to a rhythm lick... You get the idea.
So far so good, right? Well, now comes the bad part. DigiTech has been stringing customers along for ages concerning the development of 24-bit, low-latency ASIO drivers for the USB recording functions on the RPx400. It is currently considered a "dead" product, and is therefore at the bottom of the list for features and upgrades. That said, I've had OK experiences with recording to my PC. I hate having ANY delay at all, given that I run a fairly high-end system, so I'm one of those who actually care about ASIO drivers. You may or may not. It still records, but you may be stuck compensating for recording latency. The packaged software, Cakewalk Pro Tracks, is quite decent -- a wonderful step up from Acoustica. It's the best I've dealt with yet, but I admit I'm still an amateur. Fresh out of the box, I was up and recording within 25 minutes or so, though.
Also, the software bundle includes DigiTech Librarian, which lets you back up or even share your patch settings via the Web. If you've ever tried to program patches into an RP50 or RP200 for hours on end, this is a breakthrough. Point, click, done.
One last thing: the footswitches have a tendency to get "sticky" after a while. That is, the microswitches start losing contact. I had to, uh, "modify" mine a few months ago with pieces of thumbtacks to get a little more "oomph" on the switches, which look like the same PCB microswitches you find in DOD and Boss pedals.
Overall, it's a great product. I'd go on a murderous rampage if something were to happen to mine. Of course, the price has also dropped over $100 since I bought it. From hard rock to thrash metal to blues, it's awesome. But if you're looking for high-end recording capabilities, this may not be the processor for you. It's a great entry-level piece of equipment, complete with XLR outputs and so forth... But the vaporware ASIO drivers are a bit of a pain. If you're not looking to do digital recording, you may want to look for an RP300 instead. That said, I'm fairly happy with mine. I have a library of something like 25 custom patches that I flip between, and trying to maintain them on an RP300 would be something out of Dante's third circle of hell. It all depends on what you're looking for. Good luck, and happy shredding.

There is a new version out, upgraded with additional noise suppression. Of course, I always thought noise is what you make it, so make the most of it. This box is for the pure, classic sounds. A tube screamer and the best compression short of a janglebox. I play it doing acoustic; classic rock on a strat; but most of all blues and rock on my homemade electric 12. Practically nothing this box can't do. I'm going for the new model, but definitely keeping this one.

The great-sounding overdrive channel is modeled after the sound of the original Tube Screamer, but it also has a bass boost switch. The compressor can be set for classic squash or clean boost with the unique preamp stage and gain knob. This allows for a truckload of clean gain. The compressor even has its own tone control. The 2 effects can be used independently or combined to complement one another.

DigiTech RP350 Multi Effect Pedal Review

DigiTech RP350 Multi Effect Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The amp simulators alone make the Digitech RP350 worth the price of admission. No piece of solid state equipment can capture all of the nuances of tube gear, but this thing comes reasonably close.
The main limitation I found is that you can run only ONE effect at a time from the Chorus/FX module (delay and reverb are in a separate module). So running chorus and flange together is impossible. Ditto with phaser and pitch shift. I would strongly recommend visiting the Digitech website and downloading the manual so that you know exactly what you are getting. The website also has clips of the presets, though actually playing one would of course be better.
My only other gripe is that the Marshall Plexi simulation could use a higher maximum gain level. You have to mate it with a distortion pedal simulation to get a decent among of distortion. I prefer my Tech 21 Sansamp GT2 for 70s hard rock sounds.
For the price, this was well worth it for me. I just hope Digitech makes future models with two FX modules instead of only one.

Digitech Vocalist Live 2 Harmonizer Review

Digitech Vocalist Live 2 Harmonizer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Got this unit just to try as a gadget and as a backup plan B if our main singer has to last minute cancel out of some shows, (at least I'll have someone to sing with me). It's super easy to use and tracks the guitar chords very well to produce nice harmonies. I don't use the effects or enhancements (pre set EQ curves).

The mic preamp is HOT, so beware. The guitar thru circuit does not seem to color guitar tone, haven't tried with solid body electric yet though.
The unit is not noisy, I do not use the built in compressor though as I am careful not to over process.
Ive found that I'm using it, (albeit sparingly), at all my gigs now to add just one more harmony at times, like a spice in the gravy. Very nice!
What a deal too. Got this $50 cheaper than anywhere else thru Amazon

Eagletone Distortion Pedal Review

Eagletone Distortion Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a guitarist that was used to using the on board volume to bust open the floodgates of power from my amplifiers, I wanted to find a pedal that gave me options so that I could shape my sound at a lower volume and then raise the volume as need be. I was initially pretty thrilled with the pedal and believed it would have a place in my pedal board...then, I had some reservations...
Short and to the point, Eagletone (Biyang) do not make an adapter for their pedals. (Personally, I thought this rather odd.) A regular 9 volt adapter will not work with this pedal either. Thankfully, Danelectro has the D-1 9 volt adapter which is rated at 9.6 volts and it works great. If you buy this pedal or any other pedal made by this company, get a Danaelectro D-1 adapter.
This pedal has options (Normal/Max/Turbo) on a mini toggle switch. IMHO, Max had more of an edge than Turbo, but knowing that in advance, it's easy to adjust and use. Basically, it's three Rat distortion clones in a box...
I do like it and I can see that given time to tweak it and find the sweet spot for each position of the toggle, I will use it.
Had the company made their own power adapters or at least made the use of something more universal possible, I'd have given it 4 stars...
Had the audible difference in positions on the toggle switch been consistant, it's a 5 star pedal.

The manufacturer states that this unit improves phase and amplitude integrity of the final signal which we call Sound. I can say that in my professional studio there is a Presence or Naturalness in the final product which was absent before. I am happy with this device.

The BBE 482i Sonic Maximizer is the most popular of the BBE line of SONIC MAXIMIZERS\'. With the patented BBE Process, music has a great "live presence". Unlike some "exciter" devices which add artificial harmonics to the signal, BBE adds nothing artificial but instead restructures it to faithfully allow all the detail and nuance to be heard. Highs frequencies are clear, naturally brilliant and finely detailed. Lows are tight, well defined and harmonically rich.Electric and acoustic guitars have sparkle, clarity and definition. BBE brings out the harmonic complexity so each note of a chord becomes more distinct. Electric & acoustic basses take on a rich, earthy "CD" sound. BBE yields extremely tight, punchy bottom end without sacrificing the presence, clarity and bite on the top end. Keyboards and synthesizers take on new realism. Percussive and plucked sounds are clear and sharp; chords are rich and full-textured with each note in the chord retaining its integrity.Vocals cut through the amplified instruments so you\'re no longer "buried in the mix". Sound contractors know that vocal intelligibility is paramount to a successful PA installation and client satisfaction. No other audio processor brings natural clarity and crisp definition to the spoken word like BBE does. That's why BBE Sonic Maximizer processors can be found installed in PA systems ranging from the massive network in New York's JFK airport to the thousands of houses of worship around the world.Recording studios use BBE on individual tracks, mixdown, and of course in mastering. Mixes with BBE are fresh and sparkly, restoring instrument clarity and vocal intelligibility without appreciably adding level. BBE improves effect processing by expanding the spatial dimension of stereo reverb and chorus. Whether in an individual instrument rack or across a full mix, BBE makes a dramatic improvement in the quality of effects and neutralizes their tendency to muffle instrument and vocal characteristics.

Carl Martin Octaswitch Review

Carl Martin Octaswitch
Average Reviews:

My pedals sound amazing. No dancing. Incredible. Only thing that sucks but that is just inherent in the pedal is how many cables are needed. Like 16 cables. It's crazy. But the pedal is true bypass which makes my rig sound so friggin good. I'm in the process of making my own cables because it's cheaper and I can get specific lengths. The Octa-switch is highly recommended.

When Carl Martin decided to create a baby-brother for his world famous Combinator, the details of simplifying an already simple effect controller made his head hurt.So Carl enlisted the help of Thomas Guldmann, and the Octa-switch was born. The concept is simple\'.take your eight favourite effects pedals, plug them into the eight individual loops (all true-bypass gold relays) on the Octa-switch, and then designate what effects you want connected to each of 8 banks via the worlds simplest and smallest DIP switches located over top of each of the eight bank switches.Thomas chose DIP switches because they are just eight individual on-off switches in a tiny tiny package. So if your effects are plugged into Loops 1-8, you simply turn the DIP switch ‘on\' for each of the effects you want in Bank 1, and then Bank 2 etc up to Bank 8.You can use one or all of the effects in each bank, and once you have designated a bank, do us both a favour and cover the DIP with a bit of tape to ensure nothing happens to the DIP switch when you are not looking\'\'like an errant hand, or a flood of beer. The Octa-switch is mono-in and mono/stereo out, with a choice of a buffered signal or not.The unit is powered by dual 9v batteries, or a regulated power supply like the Carl Martin Big John Power Supply, and is housed in an all metal case with heart-stopping (ok, well almost) graphics. So, the same basic options found in the digitally controlled units the famous guys are using, at a fraction of the cost!Carl\'s head stopped hurting\'..

Fulltone Supa-Trem Review

I'll keep this short and sweet. This is undeniably one of the best tremolo's out there. You can't go wrong. Yes, it's a bit pricey...but then again, you get what you pay for.

The Supa-Trem pedal from Fulltone uses a photocell like an old American tube-amp, but without the annoying ticking sound that plagues other tremolo pedals. The Supa-Trem is extremely versatile—no gimmicks or silly paint jobs—"this thing lives up to it's name" (Guitar World). The tremolo pedal is true bypass with an LED status and speed indicator. The Supa-Trem's footswitchable Half/Full speed footswitch stays in tempo, allowing Leslie-like moves without losing the song's beat. Another footswitch lets you choose between "Soft" smooth wavering or "Hard" square-wave machine-gun stutter. And there's an internal trimmer to fine-tune the feel of the waveform. Boss MD-2 Mega Distortion Review

Boss MD-2 Mega Distortion
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I first bought this pedal a while ago when it first came out to give me a nice distortion sound on my little practice amp. It did the job and i liked it... until i upgraded my amp to a 60w solid state. It sounded either too harsh or too muddy when i added bass, i didn't like it at all, so I put it away. Now I got a nice marshall tube amp and thought hey, why not try it? I LOVE it with the marshall! It gets me a really different flavor than the marshall, I still love the tube overdrive tone of course, but for more alternative-grungy stuff, this rocks. I'd have to say most importantly: if you throw this in front of a solid state amp, you probably won't like it. Also, if you play METAL, you won't like it, but if you play rock and like the DS-1 or DS-2 tones, you should try this. Also, it has a few sweet spots, especially with the gain boost and bottom boost down (bottom boost will kill you in the mix). Have fun!

Korg KP3 Kaoss Pad Dynamic Effects Sampler Review

Korg KP3 Kaoss Pad Dynamic Effects Sampler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
first thing, i am no where near a pro with effects and recording equipment, that said, i have a long history with korg, and know from exp they make really good effects and at good prices. this machine is addictive. i want to let potential buyers know what you can do with the kaoss right out of the box, with about 20min w the manual. so it is basically an effects processer, instrument(drum machine and synth) and a sampler(w 4 banks a-d) i have a 400 disc player, and ran the rca through the korg line in, and line out into a 8 track digital recorder. and its just fun. i hit random play, and rarely get past the first 30 seconds of a song. the kaoss makes it very easy to sample any line in, and loops them, you can use up to 4 at a time, and you can save your fav samples on sd cards (2gb max, which you can buy on amazon for 7$,i like kingston) thats just the beginning, once you get a sample or samples, you have a hundred dif effects(phaser, grain, delays, re-verb common effects and sounds in the korg library) so you get a sample, you loop it back and you can manipulate it in a infinite number of ways. it also has bpm, a feature that syncs the beats in the machine to music from the line in, so it does the timing for you, and the beats loop in increments(4,8,16} the touch pad(which is huge) act as the knobs on effects and synths. so the clip its playing changes with every move of your finger. , every time you change the effect it opens a new world of the same sample.
now the drum machine and synth, there could have been more banks here and less effects, but some i imagine would say the opposite. i very much like that it loops seamlessly, and you can change the measures, but not as versatile as traditional drum machines. the touch pad responds very well, though when you tap faster as in a drum roll, it will hold up, but the sound is more in the held position anyway.and its somewhat user friendly, i say that cause i hate manuals, i just like to play, so i have figured out about 20% of this machine, and still i cant help to smile just looking at it. i have been looking into samplers for 15yrs and this is the least expensive, most fun, and easiest to use machine i have ever seen. . i, you can be silly, serious, either way it will impress(it will process anything w rca jacks, so there is no limit, there is allot of rhythm in the most common tv shows, radio programs, even the worst lp has sumthing sweet korg gives one year warranty,
update drum machine and synth work welly well w my microkorg, play one w your right and other with the left hand, ,my guitar through the mic input is really cool, you press hold on the effects, and you can change the sound completely after each riff, not so good w my bass, distorts at low levels

Electro-Harmonix Memory Toy Analog Delay Review

Electro-Harmonix Memory Toy Analog Delay
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The good: Easy to use, nice features, sounds really sweet, and a great price. Well worth purchasing even though I have one note of concern.
The concern: My Memory Toy worked fine for a couple of months then spontaneously stopped working, lights came on but no effects processing occurred.
I contacted EHX and opened the pedal to remove the battery prior to shipping. The pedal has two circuit boards, with one attached to the other by eight pins fitted into sockets on the other board. I noticed that the top circuit board of the two in the pedal was loose, and had in fact separated from the main board.
Once I pushed the board pins back into the sockets on the main board the pedal started working again, it seems that the one board must easily come loose from the main board causing the problems.
I assume that the design that allows this to happen is the cause of the numerous similar issues I have heard of with this pedal, (some arriving DOA, etc.)
I added a rubber pad to keep the board in place from now on...
