Behringer UB502 Eurorack UB502 Mixer (5 Inputs) Review

I've wanted a mixer for a long time now, and I finally got this one. At first I wanted the next biggest one, the UB802, I think. When I was thinking about when it when it would come. When it did, I was almost unsure what it was when I saw the box! It's so tiny- I thought it would be much bigger (Guess I didn't look very hard at the product description!)
It's amazing the sound you can get with this and even a cheap pair of speakers and a microphone (I use a Behringer mic, also. Ultravoice.)
I'm quite happy with this and if you're looking for a mixer on a budget, this one will be amazing for a small home studio. However, if you want to make something bigger, you'll want to get one of the bigger models in this series (Behringer UB).
I'm thrilled!

The Behringer UB502 may be small, but it features the same state-of-the-art Invisible Mic Preamp (IMP) and the same Ultra low-noise (ULN) design for highest possible headroom as its larger brethren. The UB502 has one mono channel plus 2 stereo channels with a 2-band EQ on the mono channel so it's ideal for use with fixed audio installations as well as keyboards, samplers and computer application. Hobby musicians and video makers will also find use for the ultra-compact Behringer UB502. The UB Stereo mixers are the Fab Four of Behringer compact mixers, featuring the same design, the same quality, and lots of the same features as their most expensive brothers & sisters. From the Invisible Mic Preamps to the carefully designed faders, knobs and even equalizers, these mixers provide the super clean, high headroom sound quality that you demand for pro live sound reinforcement jobs and even high-quality digital recording. All of these models feature at least one Aux send for effects. Other features include balanced 1/4" main outs, RCA tape in & out and Ctrl Room output.

I was a little nervous to buy this without reading someone's assurance that it would do specifically what I wanted: record our band multi-tracked into a MacBook.
But it works great. No hiccups while streaming 6 channels at once into Garageband. Amazing at the price.

Yamaha MG82CX 8 Input Stereo Mixer with Digital Effects Review

Yamaha MG82CX 8 Input Stereo Mixer with Digital Effects

I host a monthly Open Mic in Pasadena, at Jones Coffee, a small warehouse space. For the past 10 months I had been using a Behringer Eurorack mixer, which is about the same size as this one, also with 8-ins. Before that, I used a spirit folio, which is a tiny bit smaller. I connect the mixer to 2 Behringer powered speakers. Using this set up, I could handle 3 mics, a couple guitar-ins or a guitar and a keyboard.

A few of my performers would occasionally request reverb on the mics, but I didn't want the hassle of bringing in an aux effects unit and patching it in. I figured the acoustics of the warehouse space provided sufficient reverb. At the same time, I found it challenging to get a decent sound - I could barely get the (Shure) mics loud enough to make the vocals audible without sounding muddy and overamplified, or feeding back.
So I bought a Yamaha MG82CX a couple weeks ago, and used it for last night's Open Mic event. Wow! What a difference! This was the
best sounding event I've hosted. Two features made a big difference: The built-in compression made the vocals sound much better
and more audible - I kept the knobs at about the 1/3 to halfway mark. And the built-in reverb helped make the vocals and some of
the acoustic guitar parts sound wonderful. The trick is not to overuse it. The unit has about half a dozen different reverb
effects - the one I liked the best is called "Vocal Echo".
If you get the optional mounting hardware (I already had a BMS10A mount which I had used with a Yamaha Stagepas PA, and which
also works with this), you can mount the mixer on a mic stand. I found this very convenient.

If you're also evaluating the Yamaha Stagepas, it's not that great by the way. Since the amp powers the speakers, it is designed
with a cooling fan, which on my unit is quite loud. And the built-in reverb on the Stagepas sounds terrible, as compared to the higher quality effects on this unit. Much better to get one of these, and connect it to powered speakers.

The MG82CX is a compact mixer with 8 total input channels: four mono and four stereo line inputs. Mono inputs have switchable 48V phantom power. Stereo inputs can accept either RCA or ¼" connectors. Channels 1 and 2 offer single-knob compression, a Yamaha exclusive. This feature, designed for easy use, allows inputs with very wide dynamics to be better heard. For example, with the right amount of compression, a vocal that must be whispered in quiet parts and screamed out in louder parts will be better balanced in the mix. The built-in digital effect, based on Yamaha\'s award winning SPX line of processors, offers 16 reverb, delay and echo editable presets. Dual 8-segment LED meters allow visual monitoring of the main stereo outputs. A small footprint allows easy placement.
