Nady Small Diaphram Condenser Microphone Review

Nady Small Diaphram Condenser Microphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a drummer with a home studio. I was looking for a small condensor to place over my ride cymbal to gain a tad more control aside from the stereo over heads I am already using. This mic was my choice because of my past experience with Nady products and the price. It has a full clear sound with very high gain. What I actually ended up doing was using it as my Hi Hat mic and using the AKG i had over the ride with fantastic results. The only thing I can say is the mic does not have a low end roll off switch which would make it it top notch, but that was easy to remedy by just using a parametric EQ to gain the results I wanted. 2 thumbs up for the Nady condensor. Just the price alone makes it worth buying

Rode NTK Tube Condenser Microphone Review

Rode NTK Tube Condenser Microphone
Average Reviews:

Great mic - excellent sound. I have been a pro voiceover artist for over 30 years and have dealt with a variety of studio mics. In building my own studio I really wanted a front end that had a clear and smooth full-range sound. The R0de NTK was recommended to me by another "big voice" artist, and completely lives up to the recommendation. Everyone I have talked to says it's about the best value out there. If you have cash to blow, you can get a "noyyyyyymannnnn" (raise eyebrows here), or you can enjoy the sound of this mic and take the extra $3200 and spend it on more gear. The hard plastic padded case for the mic and power supply are a nice touch. Don't forget to buy a shock mount for it!
Enjoy -

MXL V63M Condenser Studio Microphone Review

This mic has excellent sound for my podcasts. I was going to feed the mic into a mixer but went direct with an Art Tube mic preamp feeding this in to my Macinotsh dual G5 2.0 Ghz. The setup work flawlessly and the audio quality is top notch. I don't think you can go wrong with this microphone. I'm using top quality Monster cables and a Nady pop screen filter which is also excellent and highly recommended.

Apex Electronics 460 Tube Microphone Review

I FOUND THE APEX 460 TUBE MIC TO BE COMPARABLE TO MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE STUDIO MICS.
I HAVE ONLY USED IT FOR VOCALS SO FAR AND I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE SWEAT
SOUND.THE MIC IS VERY QUIET WITH VERY LITTLE OR NO NOISE AT ALL.
THIS MIC IS A KEEPER AND I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH MINE.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Apex Electronics 460 Tube Microphone

One unique feature of this microphone is the nine different selectable polar patterns easily available from the selector switch on the front panel of the external power supply. Rather than limiting the user to the three popular patterns most commonly available, the APEX460 has three gradient stages between each pattern. This allows the studio engineer or home recordist far more versatility. In vocal applications where an omnidirectional pattern isn't quite 'fat' enough, but cardioid is too narrow, you now have three additional steps to find the right subtle mix between the two standard patterns. There are also three additional steps between cardioid and figure-8 pattern.Improved quality in affordable recording equipment has brought serious power to the home studio enthusiast or small project studio. The microphone is the first, and often most important link in the signal chain. The APEX460 is high performance, yet truly affordable large diaphragm condenser microphone. They are an outstanding choice for the main microphone for any professional studio, home studio, or any of the computer based direct to hard drive recording systems now available.Due to their rugged construction, high SPL handling capability and affordable price, the APEX460 is also an outstanding choice for live sound reinforcement or live recording. They have proven themselves as overhead mics for drum kits, for guitar or bass cabinets where superior sound quality and high sound pressure handling is required, or as the mic of choice for saxophones, flutes, acoustic guitars or acoustic bass where subtlety and clarity is paramount.Vocalists can use the proximity effect to their advantage, adding fullness and more "bottom end" to the voice. Experienced vocalists can easily incorporate it part of their overall microphone technique. Again, experimentation with mic placement during the recording process is the key. The omnidirectional polar pattern does not exhibit this effect.

This preamp is cleanish warm and can be nice and warm when stacked on tracks...Its a pro preamp and never think its not, The DI is very handy and can actualy be used for stereo recording with the preamp and di input.(input another preamp out to DI input to the optional a-d out)outs are now stereo...
Two recordings at the same time is a big deal if you have the a-d card, it has 2 xlr outs or the a/d card stereo outs with preamp and another input....again these preamps are used on professional recordings the isa 110's which this is a single version....
This unit does not include the a-d digital card, they run around $399 but are pro quality as well, not at all like Focusrite's cheaper pres a/d or the Behringer's a-d mess....

Rode NT2000 Vocal Condenser Microphone Review

Rode NT2000 Vocal Condenser Microphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Everyone should have a multi-pattern mic around for utility purposes and this is the one I chose after demoing a half-dozen of interest (I had particularly high hopes for the Blue Mics). Aside from one super-expensive, and unnamed mic, the Rode NT2000 was actually my favorite by quite a margin. As I regard this type of mic as a utility piece, I was looking for a mic that was fairly neutral on voice/cardioid and without too heavy a proximity effect, airy and crisp on omni, and had to have an attentuation switch.
The NT2000 has all that, plus a rugged build. I've been very pleased since purchase, having used it for voice, acoustic guitar (could probably use a warmer mic here), cab miking on electric, bagpipes, recording ambience, and percussion. I'm especially pleased with the mic's ability to capture detail in high sound pressure conditions.
The NT2000 has continuously variable patterns, not a fixed selection of patterns. It has a variable pad, not a simple cut type attentuation switch, which really helps in nailing the sound without having to compromise the mic's position. Finally, the high-pass filter is also continuously variable. All go a long way in making this a HIGHLY adaptable mic.
After my demos, I went in to buy one mic, got an offer I couldn't refuse on two, and walked away poorer but happier! You won't be able to equal that price, as it was something of a favor, but the price here is good.
Although I love NT2000's sound and capabilities, I'm not wild about the controls (pattern, etc.). These aren't knobs you grab and turn - they're thin and flat. They have an edge pattern, but I can't turn them reliably by trying to grab the edges. I have to put my thumb on the knob surface and rotate it that way. It works and the knobs won't get accidently moved, but it's not exactly the height of convenience.
Great multipurpose mics.

Audio Technica AT4050 Condenser Microphone Review

Audio Technica AT4050 Condenser Microphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been using this microphone for years. I have two of them, actually. I didn't buy them as a matched pair, so one is a bit brighter sounding than the other. That can be an advantage, as I use the darker mic for overly bright sound sources, and vice-versa. I've used these mics with good results in my project studio, on vocals, guitars, and hand percussion, and actually earned a major film festival award for music I created in that studio. I think the mics sound particularly good on female voices (as a number of reviewers have noted). The figure-of-eight pattern offers the flattest response curve, and I almost always use that for vocals. (The cardioid and omni pattern give more treble/upper mids boost--useful for some applications, but a little harsh on my voice.)
Bottom line: This is a well-made, versatile microphone that will do pretty much anything you ask of it.

CAD M179 Variable-Pattern Condenser Microphone Review

CAD M179 Variable-Pattern Condenser Microphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this microphone just or one purpose: Tom miking.
Prehistory:
After having read raving critics about the CAD - mainly from US engineers at Gearslutz - I couldn't resist any longer and wanted
to make my own picture.
Since I'm located in Germany, having done a search for shopping resources over here quickly revealed: Nothing.
No CAD M179 was available in Germany at that time, which seems to be strange because CAD produces in China.
Anyway, I finally found it on Amazon.com in the U.S.
Buying experience:
Although I've always been a bit skeptical about customs, delays and whatever else can go wrong with oversea transports, I ordered the price reduced bundle of 3 units.
To my greatest surprise, the package arrived quite fast (10 days, 2 of them in the customs), was safely packed and 100 % as described.
Import tax was very low by the way, only 2.5% of the microphone price plus shipping (tax for Germany, other countries in the EU may vary).
Packaging:
The CAD comes in a very large, cube-like package, printed with the-more-the-better zillions of colors, mainly in purple, red and blue.
One could say the carton design looks cheap, but as always, taste is a personal thing and in the end it's the content that counts, isn't it?
Although not my piece of cake, I must admit that the microphone seems to be well protected by this giant package.
Construction:
The microphone is sturdy built, with a anodized metal surface while being surprisingly heavy.
The capsule is placed safe inside the solid metal windscreen.
Part of delivery is a ring clamp plus a professional shock mount - highly recommended to reduce vibrations when miking drums.
The overall construction is very good, in my opinion even exceptional for the given price.
The CAD M179 offers a pad switch, which is a must for drum miking or the capsule could tend to distort.
Both, variable pattern wheel as well as the pad switch, are easy accessible in front of the mike.
Overall impression: No bells and whistles, but a solid workhorse, built for pro's.
Sound:
The CAD offers a warm, natural sound, that perfectly fits for Toms, but also for clean Guitars and even background vocals.
I personally wouldn't use it for Lead vocals, but what can you expect for the price.
Of course, the CAD wasn't built to be a concurrence to Neumann and other high end brands. But it does its job extremely well.
The main purpose for me was Tom-miking, so the following research is covering only my experience with Toms.
Set to cardioid, surrounding sounds from back and side are successfully suppressed, quite important when dealing with bleeding HiHats or cymbals.
The Toms immediately sounded really big, not to say huge, without messy crash sounds coming through.
Although having used Sennheiser MKH-40 for Toms before (one costs 10 times the $$ of a M179 ...), the results were doubtless significantly better then ever!
You can turn up the Tom tracks in your mix, really push them in breaks and the like, and at the same time your mix won't suffer of the typical cymbal bleeding as known from other microphones (like the MKH-40 or MD421).
Amazing.
In Short:
Pros:
* very good and sturdy crafted
* exceptional good sounding results, specially with Toms
* low price
Cons:
* heavy weight that demands for mic stands
* typical microphone clamps will place the CAD more over the center of Toms, not at side, due to it's size.
I can live with that, although your setup will be cluttered even more when using stands.
Conclusion:
I love this microphone! My dream of a perfect drum sound has become more true, day in and out.
A clear recommendation: Buy it!

Studio Projects B1 v2 Condenser Microphone Review

Studio Projects B1 v2 Condenser Microphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm so happy with this mic. After going through two other condensers (an MXL990 and a Shure KSM27) which I got rid of, I'm finally content. The best thing is that the price is outstanding. This mic is priced far lower than what it should be.
The Studio Projects B1 has a wonderfully warm low end to it that still has detail. I have a midrange voice, and it fits me very well. The highs are not so overly "essy", as many other cheaper mics are. They are clear and just right. I barely feel a need to add much for EQ.
My previous experience with an MXL 990 was not a good one. I returned it in a day, due to the muddy lows and weird high end. I also had a Shure KSM27, which is probably better suited for high-pressure sound applications than VO's. I didn't care for its boxy highs sound, and sold that off.
The Studio Projects B1 is just incredible for the price. You can actually hear it if you do a web search on transom dot org mic shootout. It sounds better than mics costing thousands.
Really, an outstanding product. People say the C1 is better, but I just can't imagine myself needing it -- I'm so thrilled with this B1 for VO work.
The only con I'd say is the rather cheap basket holder. It comes with a free windscreen, though, which is a nice touch.
Remember, v2 of his mic has the extra -10 and -20 pad switch, as well as a two low-cut modes at -75, and I believe -150. Both work fairly well.
Get it!

This is the first time I am writing a review for a product. At first, I was kind of afraid to order the microphones for such a price comparing to the standard prices, but after I got them, no regret. I bought two, and have used them only for one week to record guitars in stereo and drums as well. In acoustic guitars, They sound great, they pickup every single sound, though some resonance in the low end. In my drums, they work excellent, amazing. They grab every single sound from the drum kit, and even though i thought they wouldnt grab the kick drum sound too good, in fact, they pick up that sound really good. They pickup exactly the whole image of the drumset, and the kick drum amazingly. I just hope these mics last for a long time.

Audio-Technica Side Address Condenser Instrument Microphone
Average Reviews:

I was looking for a microphone that would work well to pick up the barrel of a clarinet. Studied lots of microphones and pickup patterns, microphone types on line. I decided on this microphone because it has a cardoid pickup pattern, and what seems to be an adequate amount of sensitivity to pick up the barrel of the clarinet from about 4 to 5 inches away from the instrument. I probably could use a little more sensitivity, but am concerned about feedback problems, being in an extrememly lively sound stage situation. I tried it at home with an amplifier and small speaker, but have not given it the acid test, which is on stage. Wish me luck!---------Gary

It's sad that MXL discontinued the 4000 because it's an absolutely fantastic mic and the price is amazing for the quality you get. Get one while they're still around and you will never be disappointed with it.
The get right to the point, this mic sounds excellent and is extremely cool-looking, and the 3 polar patterns, bass rolloff, and -10dB pad switches make it as versatile a mic as you can get. It's extremely sensitive yet quiet and has terrific resistance to handling noise and vibrations and is ruggedly constructed. The mic comes with a large windscreen, a very sturdy shockmount, and a really nice-looking storage box. It is a professional mic both in appearance and sound quality.
This large diaphragm condenser mic has excellent frequency response and sounds great on everything I've tried, and vocals sound superb; extremely rich and smooth with precise clairty and never harsh or muddy. The sound quality of the 4000 easily beats other microphones much more expensive and the looks are just ultra-cool with a funky vintage vibe. The different pickup patterns function perfectly and add much versatility.
I research everything thoroughly before I make purchases, and this mic not only looks great on paper, it performs like an absolute champ, and most definitely beats anything else at that price. Usually I don't bother to write reviews, but I feel strongly about how great a deal the MXL 4000 is. It's just a darn neat mic!

The MXL 4000 Multi-Pattern is a condenser microphone designed around a Class-A discrete FET mic amp specially chosen to match its large diaphragm capsule. The capsule itself has been sized and tuned to provide a silky and airy top end with a full, warm midrange reminiscent of vintage microphones. Hand selected internal components create a sound that enhances both vocal and instrument performances. Using the polar patterns To take advantage of the versatility of the MXL 4000's polar patterns, here are some miking tricks of the pros. Figure-8 Figure-8 mics pick up sound equally well from front and rear. So, if you're looking for a rich vocal sound with the added ambience of room tone to add depth and spaciousness, use the figure-8 pattern and have your vocalist sing into one side while the other picks up the reflections of the room. Only do this if you have a good-sounding room. You can also use the figure-8 pattern for isolation from other instruments. For example, if you're miking drums and want to give the hi-hat it's own track, position the MXL 4000 so that the side of the figure-8, where rejection is greatest, is pointing towards the snare while the front or rear of the mix faces the hat. Do the same if you're recording a singer-guitarist who's playing an acoustic while singing. You need two figure-8 mics for this one. Position the vocal mic so that the side is facing the guitar, and the guitar mic so that the side of the figure-8 points towards the singer's mouth. Now both singer and guitar are isolated. Again, make sure you do this in a room that sounds good, because the back side of the mic will be picking up the room. Omni In many cases, the least used, but best-sounding of all the polar patterns. Omni has very little off-axis coloration, which means that sounds entering the sides of the mic sound just as good as sounds entering the front. If you have a great-sounding room, by all means, try omni before anything else. Omni gives your recordings the impression

Nice clean, strong pick up with minimal background noise. Glad to have the 10db pad. Pretty little thing in its blue velvet lined box. Very good for this price.
