Samson AirLine Synth Earset - True Diversity UHF Wireless System Review

Samson AirLine Synth Earset - True Diversity UHF Wireless System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The belt pack is very small compared to most others we've used. The diversity tx/rx setup is simple - but - you cannot change the frequency with the mic attached to the belt pack. Odd, that.
Our pastor says the earpiece is very comfortable, and does not slip during service. He wears glasses, so many other earpieces were either uncomfortable, didn't fit at all, or would slip. The slip resulted in the mic boom dropping significantly enough that the pastor couldn't be heard. With the tension band on this earpiece, that hasn't been an issue.
The mic is well suited for male speakers. There is a noticeable boost in the low end compared to other headset mics we've used. So far, the unit has performed well and fit, rather than busted our budget.

Samson Concert 77 UHF TD Headset Wireless Microphone System with SE10 Headset, Channel N3 Review

Samson Concert 77 UHF TD Headset Wireless Microphone System with SE10 Headset, Channel N3
Average Reviews:

This wireless system is a really good middle of the road system. It isn't a cheap wanna-be toy, and it isn't an over priced waste of money either. It is a solid pro-quality kit that does it's job really well. The price makes it a no-brainer. Sure, there are systems with better sound, longer range, and smaller headpieces. You will pay big bucks for those upgrades. Line of sight, the distance of this system is very good. The sound is more than adequate for live shows (as it is designed for), and with the foam wind blocker off, the headpiece is not distracting.
If you're looking for wireless for DJ, workout, or worship use, this is your answer. I'm sure you'll be as happy with it as I am.

Samson C01U USB Studio Condenser Microphone with Cakewalk Sonar LE Review

Samson C01U USB Studio Condenser Microphone with Cakewalk Sonar LE
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am just starting to provide voice overs for tutorials and needed a convenient way to record audio on my PC. At first, I tried the classic headset/mic combo using my on board PC audio. This was unbearable to listen to.
I then purchased a Sony F-V220 Uni-Directional Vocal Microphone with Extended Frequency Response microphone. This was a distinct step up with vast improvements in sound quality. The remaining issue was hum introduced by the PC motherboard audio. I considered competing products for about 2 weeks until I settled upon the C01UCW.
The C01UCW promised great results with the ease of a single USB plug. I purchased one and would highly recommend it to others in my situation. The voice quality is great and the hiss/hum is virtually eliminated. The program I am using has an automatic filter to zero the levels between the actual speaking parts so when in actual use, the very little hiss that can be heard with windows sound recorder is completely lost when speaking normally.
The real test has been the positive responses from the people listening to the final results.
In summary, super simple USB installation (no drivers needed in WXP), very low noise, and great sound quality for a reasonable price.
The only niggles that I have with the C01UCW are:
The power light on the mic I received does not come on even though the mic works flawlessly. I am using a USB1.0 port while the device is USB2.0. The manual does not indicate that this should be normal.
The cardioid pattern was supposed to reject sounds from off-direction sources. It might be better than a unidirectional mic but with the sensitivity of this mic, any noise that has direct line of sight to the front of the mic is likely to be picked up. I can tell that those sounds from behind the mic are distinctly reduced.
I did not use the Cakewalk software. The stand works but only accepts the heavy mic in very limited stances. The heavy mic puts the center of gravity very high and the short stand legs have a difficult time compensating. I also purchased the isolation shockmount further raising the CG exacerbating the problem. To be sure, the stand works and I use the stand. I just use the stand in one position with the weight supported over one leg of the stand as the only viable option. It is definitely better to have the stand than not. It saved quite a bit of hassle and money to get the stand as a bundle.

This is a great product. I create online training videos and this is ideal. The audio is crystal clear and is easy to use. This is not a light-weight cheapy throw away item if it doesn't work. I am very impressed with the quality.
Caution - Your PC is fully capable of using this as a plug-n-play device. Don't waste your time on the SoftPre software described in the literature as you don't need it. I contacted the manufacturer and they confirmed by suspecion that it doesn't work and isn't required.
They do include some great recording software that is not SoftPre, so don't get those confused!

Samson Go Mic Compact USB Microphone - Plug n' Play Review

Samson Go Mic Compact USB Microphone - Plug n' Play
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Having misplaced my Blue Snowflake USB mic, I decided to give this recently introduced, competitively priced USB mic from Samson a try. (Samson is maker of the highly popular and effective Zoom personal digital recorders--the H2 and the H4n.) It's an attractive, fully outfitted piece of equipment, with handsome packaging (a small black box and zippered carrying case with aesthetics apparently inspired by iPod). It's smaller and lighter than the Snowflake--more diminutive than the picture would suggest. Yet the audio quality strikes me as being somewhat warmer and richer, favoring the bass frequencies of spoken narration more than the Snowflake, which has slightly cleaner and clearer definition at the treble end.
The Samson Go was seen instantly by my iMac, and recording was as advertised: "Plug n' Play." The mic is somewhat more sophisticated than the Snowflake in terms of "latency" settings (it permits direct monitoring via headphones connected to the mic to insure no delay, or lag time, between transmission and reception), and there's a three-way switch for directional patterns (the manual could be clearer, however, about the difference between "cardioid" and "cardioid 10 pad.") No matter. The mic performed virtually flawlessly right out of the box, with no tampering with the switch.
It's extremely sensitive, slightly more so than the Snowflake. Yet I was unable to avoid the "P" popping sounds, regardless of how close I got to the mic and muted my consonants. So be prepared for the addition of some sort of "pop filter" device (either one sold on Amazon or a self-designed one, using a nylon stocking).
The mic can be clipped to the top of a computer screen or mounted on a mic stand (using a supplied adapter or ordering a properly sized one from Samson). Yet with its heavy base plus the flexible, tilting mic, it can be placed on a flat surface--much like the Snowflake, but with greater stability and without any intrusive cable. (The Snowflake tends to "flop around," requiring some balancing of the device by the user.)
My biggest disappointment thus far is that the clip, as alluded to by another reviewer, does not open far enough for attachment to a desk-top computer (it should be an ideal fit with most notebook machines). Although the Snowflake doesn't use a spring clip, it suffers from the same limitation. If you're especially concerned about durability, the Snowflake appears to be the heavier, more rugged mic, with thick metal and no tiny switches or spring clips to wear out. The Samson is the more delicate and refined of the two. But don't kid yourself. Either mic will exceed the capabilities of your computer's built-in mic and perhaps the owner's expectations. On the other hand, neither is a match for the Shure SM7B that I'm accustomed to using at a local broadcasting studio. Still, Samson would appear to have a winner with this little wonder, whether it's used in conjunction with a computer to record full-frequencied music or "realistic"-sounding narration.

Further expanding on its diverse line of USB microphones, Samson introduces Go Mic, a portable recording microphone that clips to your laptop. Go Mic is perfect for recording music, podcasts or field recording, but it also makes a great solution for use with voice recognition software, iChat, web casting and even Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Because of its custom, compact design, the Go Mic can clip right onto your laptop or sit unobtrusively on your desk. Plug and play operation also means it's completely compatible with a Mac OS or Windows, with no drivers required.

Quality Capturing High-quality components and meticulous engineering ensure the Go Mic offers remarkably clear, professional audio reproduction. Thanks to its switchable cardioid and omni polar patterns, you can pick whichever pattern is more appropriate for your specific situation. Use the tightly focused cardioid pickup pattern when recording a podcast, acoustic guitar or vocals. Or use the omnidirectional pattern to capture the entire room, whether you're jamming with your band, webcasting with a group or conducting an online meeting with multiple members in a single location. Plus, with a frequency response of 20Hz - 18kHz and a resolution of 16-bit/44.1kHz, you can be sure you're getting professional audio specs in a compact, multi-purpose design.
Podcasting Perfection As the podcasting trend continues to grow, standards for audio quality and ease of use grow with it. Go Mic surpasses expectations for both needs with CD quality audio and the ability to record directly into your preferred software program. No matter whether you're a PC or Mac loyalist, Go Mic has you covered. And if you don't already have a recording program on your computer, Go Mic comes with Music Creator software, so you get everything you need to elevate the quality of your podcasts in one box. Go Mic can help you wow your listeners and set yourself apart in a crowded podcasting community.
Communication Clarity If you're a frequent online communicator, Go Mic provides an easy, inexpensive solution to enhance the quality of your communication. Whether your preferred method of interaction is Skype, iChat or VoIP, Go Mic can introduce a level of clarity you didn't think was available. On the road for work? Make sure you can hear about your family's day like they're right there in the room with you. Online meeting with potential clients? Ensure every crucial word of your proposal is articulated with the in-person enthusiasm you're looking for. With Go Mic, you can make any online interaction clearer and more personal.
Multimedia Magic For multimedia enthusiasts, Go Mic brings impeccable quality to your voiceover work. If your adding narration to a video, Go Mic can ensure your words create the impact you're looking for. There's no reason to lose the power of your voiceover due to poor audio quality. Make sure your audio sounds as good as your video looks with Go Mic.
Musical Maestro Whether you're a singer/songwriter recording vocals and acoustic guitar, or a band looking to capture the room sound of a jam right on your computer, Go Mic will make sure you don't miss a note. Use the cardioid mode to capture vocals or close-mic an instrument. Or get the sound of a full band by flipping to omnidirectional mode, ensuring sound is recorded from all directions of the room. Whatever the application, Go Mic can help you take your music to the next level.

Samson CH700 Closed-Back Studio Headphones Review

Samson CH700 Closed-Back Studio Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Not only are these the most handsomely packaged headphones you're likely to find (gold lettering proclaiming: "Samson Stereo Reference Headphones Dynamic Output Design"; "for Studio Reference"; "Accurate Monitoring"; "Maximum Isolation and Extended Low Frequency Response with Close Ear Design"--all this on a transparent box displaying the phones as well as two gold-plated stereo plugs--full-sized and mini), but once you put them on, they pretty much live up to the production values and hype. One thing's certain: you'll never find anything better at this price. I considered this a "justified purchase," since I work in a studio, where I do public announcing and music broadcasting.
For the record, these compare favorably to the studio's Sony MDR-7506s, even though the latter are about six times the price. The bass is "extended," to be sure, but never heavy, boomy or muddy. With all controls on the amp or sound source set "flat," the treble is a bit soft for my tastes, but nothing that a minor EQ adjustment can't fix. The all-important middle-range is present, definitive, clear--for both vocals (spoken and sung) and instrumentals. Perhaps compared to the studio Sony phones, these are a trifle bigger, a little bit heavier and slightly more loose-fitting but, as advertised, they're constructed with a "closed-ear design providing maximum isolation." Away from the studio I prefer my Sennheiser PX-100s or Koss Portapros, but either of these is too open and lightweight for working close to a microphone. Feedback becomes a problem shortly into a broadcast. Although I'm a fan (apparently, one of the few) of the Koss UR-40s (about twice the cost of the Samsons), the Samson CH700s certainly appear to be better made--rugged, strong and, most likely, more durable than the UR-40s (the Koss webbing broke loose during the first several months of use). Moreover, the Samson CH700s have a generous and relatively thick cable (expecially compared to the thin, short wire of the Koss UR-40s) PLUS single-cord attachment (usually found only on costly phones yet practically mandatory for the sort of scrambling I do while broadcasting and operating as many as 4 decks at the same time).
One more A-B comparison: the Sennheiser Evolution EH-150 full-sized headphones vs. these Samson CH700s. Initially, the EH-150s seemed large to me (especially after the PX-100s), but alongside the Samson CH700s they appear relatively trim. In other words, some individuals may be turned off by the size of the Samson phones; others, most likely, will be drawn to them because of their solid, engulfing appearance. (My guess is that they would not be a big hit with many female listeners or, for that matter, individuals with heads any narrower than mine). As for the sound, the Sennheiser EH-150s are likely to impress many young listeners--instantly. The bass is not merely "extended": it's prominent, and it's punching. For that reason alone, some listeners may judge them worth the price (which is more than twice that of the Samson CH700s). Not this listener, however. The bass from the Samsons is far more "natural," clearly-defined, and pleasing over the long stretch (it doesn't take long for the bass from the Sennheiser EH-150s to wear out its welcome, becoming muddy and uninteresting--at least to some experienced ears).
In short, Samson is a good name and can only get better, thanks to the quality and value of products like the CH700s. The company has practically cornered the market with the world's most popular (not to mention effective and affordable) personal digital audio recorder (Zoom H2), and they've impressed the most fastidious critics with a slightly more sophisticated (and expensive) successor (Zoom H4n). They're currently taking a lot of flak for their latest product, the Zoom Q3 (basically a Flip videocam attached to an H2). They goofed big-time by completely (and inexplicably) ignoring the public's current obsession with "HD video," but look for that oversight to be corrected in short order.
Heck, if you decide not to purchase these phones, you could do far worse than invest the money in a share or two of the company's stock.

Samson SP01 Shockmount Spider Mount for Condenser Mics Review

Samson SP01 Shockmount Spider Mount for Condenser Mics
Average Reviews:

A lot of people are attracted to Samson mics because they're affordable. The same people may also end up getting an AT2020 instead, which is another popular lower priced condenser mic. But, if those people want a shock mount for the AT2020, they'll find the Audio Technica shockmount is a bit expensive. FYI, in case you're in that situation, the AT2020 fits into this Samson shockmount quite well. The only thing to consider, and it's an aesthetic thing, is that the AT2020 is black, and this shockmount is silver, and it does look a bit dorky in between a black mic stand and a black mic (this shockmount was designed for silver Samson mics). But it's a good price.
