Sennheiser ME66 Short Shotgun Capsule Head for K6 Series Review

I can't believe there are no reviews on this mic. It's the best directional mic I have ever seen, in 15 years of sound engineering. It's very very sensitive, yet very directional. I do not have the video any more, but I once recorded a voice interview with a freakin' helicopter landing behind me. The helicopter noise could be heard, but it was not overwhelming the voice being recorded. I turned around to test the ambient rejection and could not point the mic directly at the chopper due to distortion. I then turned around to my voice subject and continued the interview, unimpeded. It doesn't get any better than that. This mic is tough, sounds great and has excellent ambient rejection qualities. Can't say enough good about it. I've owned mine for 5 years and use it about 8 to 10 times a year. It is very wind sensitive, though, and it's very difficult to solve that problem. A real good wind screen is necessary and I have never been able to completely suppress wind noise. But that aside, this mic is worth every penny.

The ME 66 is a shot gun microphone capsule designed for use with the K6 and K6P powering modules. It is especially suitable for reporting, film and broadcast location applications and for picking up quiet signals in noisy or acoustically live environments as it discriminates against sound not emanating from the main pick-up direction. Matte black, anodized, scratch-resistant finish.

Designed especially for use with video cameras, this condenser shotgun mic features a switchable polar pattern for effectively capturing nearby or distant sound sources. Get crisp and intelligible pickup in the studio or in the field.

Made for Video Cameras The ATR6550 includes a camera mount for easy attachment to your video camera (also includes a standard stand clamp).
The 3.5mm mini jack connector plugs directly into your camera, and the included foam windscreen reduces wind interference in the field.
Switchable Range Setting In its "Tele" range setting, or supercardioid pattern, the condenser is engineered to pick up dialogue and sound effects at a distance, while bypassing ambient noise such as traffic, air-handling systems, room reverberation and mechanically coupled vibrations.
When ambient noise is not an issue, or the sound source is nearby, switch to the "Normal" (cardioid pattern) range setting.
