Denon DJ DN-S5000 Table Top Single CD Player Review

Denon DJ DN-S5000 Table Top Single CD Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a DJ with 23 years' experience, who worked for Denon as a "Certified Denon DJ" and beta tester (2004-'05), and for Guitar Center as a Pro Audio salesperson (2005). I can say with certainty, the best (and for me, only) CD player options available to long-time DJs who expect their equipment to withstand the rigors of the club and of the road, are the Pioneer and Denon. I use Denon exclusively, as I have for years.
The difference between Pioneer and Denon offerings is perhaps the difference between Mercedes and Rolls Royce. Pioneer, already somewhat the industry standard, has forged ahead and made amazing contributions to the world of VDJs, with their incredible new mixers and their DVJ-X1 DVD decks. Its advantage over Denon is the removable chip that stores cue points for particular CDs; since quite a few clubs have these decks already, all you need is the chip and your music, and you're good to go.
But Denon's R&D department has continually scored coups with their players, beginning with this, the flagship DN-S5000, with its incredibly responsive belt-driven spinning platter (world's first) and its junior, the DN-S3000. It also has on-board effects--brake, dump (to backward mask profanity on the fly), and reverse. It also allows one to plays two tracks from the same disc AT THE SAME TIME (or mix back and forth between them); and with the hot disc feature, one can eject a disc while the song keeps playing, replace the disc for another, and fade into a track from the new disc.
Denon reproduces much of the look and all of the feel of vinyl turntables, and the ability for each model to store up to 1000 individual memo points, which can be communicated to another Denon player when linked, is another feature that embraces the Digital Age and distinguishes them from the competition. Free software are posted on the website, when available. Unquestionably, Denon also has the best 1-yr service warranty.

DiMarzio Evolution Bridge Humbucker Pickup (Black) Review

DiMarzio Evolution Bridge Humbucker Pickup (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
You can't go wrong with the DiMarzio Evolution bridge (model DP159). I have been using the Evolution bridge for years, and many friends of mine have had me install Evolution bridges in their guitars, as well, after hearing its killer tone. This pickup has more intensity and edge than any other pickup I've ever heard; it's a lead guitarist's dream pickup. There are pickups out there with more power (DiMarzio X2N, EMG 81), but none have the tightness and control that this baby has. In addition to the gutsy penetration of the mids, the highs have strong presence, and the lows are tight and mean. This pickup can easily tear through any mix. If you're a lead guitarist, equip this pickup for astounding tone with lots of authority. If you play rhythm using your bridge pickup, it's also great for super tight, shredding rhythms. Check out [...] for a long list of guitar champions who have made this their main pickup and sound clips showing the amazing things they do with it.

The Evolution humbucker is the result of years of research to come up with the right sound for a very demanding player -- Steve Vai. This pickup is designed for maximum impact and power. The sound is tight, aggressive and loud. The design incorporates our patented dual-resonance coil configuration that senses more harmonic overtones than ordinary humbuckers. Recommended For: Bridge position in solidbody guitars Tech Talk: The Evolution bridge pickup works best for soloing where the sound must cut through. Low notes are very tight, and the highs have a lot of presence, enabling the pickup to be heard in almost any situation. Obviously, the Evolution was designed for Steve's Ibanez Jems, but it can add a lot of punch and definition to Les Pauls and similar set-neck guitars - even the lowest bass notes really jump out of the amp, and feedback occurs easily with a wide range of harmonic overtones. V Cable Volume Control Cable 10 Feet Review

V Cable Volume Control Cable 10 Feet

This cable provides a handy volume control for an acoustic Guitar with a permanently installed pickup that does not have a volume control. It eliminates the need to have your amp close so you can reach over and adjust volume at the amp. The cable seems well made and has a limited liftime warranty. It is sold under the Taylor brand but is actually made by Radco. I bought mine from Elderly instruments in Michigan.

Hosa CRA802 8-Channel RCA To RCA Snake 6.5 Ft Review

Hosa CRA802 8-Channel RCA To RCA Snake 6.5 Ft

This 8-channel unbalanced snake is well-built, reliable, and inexpensive. I've always been impressed with the quality that Hosa is able to present at their price point (in fact, I'd find it difficult to build an 8-ch snake for less). Sure, one could go out and buy a $100-200 snake with a fancy name and pretty jacketing, but there will not be an appreciable difference in sound quality. Highly recommended if you need to connect 8 channels of unbalanced audio.

IK Multimedia AmpliTube Fender Studio Software/Hardware Bundle + StealthPlug USB Interface Review

IK Multimedia AmpliTube Fender Studio Software/Hardware Bundle + StealthPlug USB Interface
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This product gives you a choice of virtual Fender amps to run on your PC or Mac bundled along with some effects pedals and a tuner. They also include the interface between your guitar and the PC in the form of a jack plug to USB adapter which also includes a standard headphone socket. The first thing you notice after installing the software is that it is impossible to listen to your guitar via your PC speakers (I would not have bought this product had I known this before hand) this leaves only the headphone option, with any of the amps master volumes set to the absolute minimum (just above zero) the sound through the headphones is so loud it is unbearable, the volume controls on the USB interface appear to do nothing either. Also the virtual controls on the amps (the rotary volume and tone pots) are a total nightmare to adjust with a mouse making any of the many (there are millions of them) adjustments you have to make to amps or effects a total chore.
No fun at all. I suggest buying a real Fender practice amp instead if you can afford it.

Marshall MG250 DFX Stereo Combo Amplifier Review

Marshall MG250 DFX Stereo Combo Amplifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this amp at a bargain price and thought that I may resell it. I'm very fussy about amps as all I've had until the last year or so were pre CBS Fenders. A Princeton Reverb, A Deluxe Reverb and a Twin Reverb with EV SRO speakers. Well, this Marshall can't be a Fender vintage tube amp but it is a really decent amp. And the cost of tube amps is nuts. I decided to keep this amp. It has some nice clean sounds, which is what I'm after. I also use a Fender solid state and I find that these amps sound pretty good. Not like the solid state amps of the 60s. Standell solid states or the Silvertone 6 x 10"? :

This is a great amp. Light and portable but loud as hell. I used this guy at a band practice with drums and another guitarist recently and only had the volume at about 3 and it was plenty loud enough. Sounds great too. Its definitely got that tube sound. I also love the simplicity of the controls: just on/off, volume, and tone.

I've been a big fan of Peavey gear for a long time and the Vypyr 75 in my opinion does not disappoint. Good and loud, good fx, decent price and not very heavy (weight-wise...but good heavy tones). Line 6 Spider Valve HD100 Review

Line 6 Spider Valve HD100
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This sucker sounds really great. And it's true what they say about tube amps. You aren't really hearing it unless you crank it. I cranked it, and it was the greatest thing I've ever heard (I played a metal chord, then turned it from super loud to very low, and I could progressively hear the tone go from amazingly thick and rich, to crackly and thin. so only buy this if you plan on playing it LOUD). Put it on the Metal or Insane settings, and it's just nuts. However, it broke the next day, so I had to send it off for repair to a "local" service center (where Line 6 made me pay 30 bucks to ship. thanks L6). It's been over a month and they finally got around to checking it out. They told me the tubes were faulty. So great. Now they say another 2 weeks to order new tubes and test to see if there are any other problems. Nice work, Line 6. BTW, my POD X3's headphone jack only outputs a MONO signal now. How great is that? Talk about quality! (the presets suck too btw. no one uses those. and you can't customize them like you can on the POD X3, but thankfully, you don't need them. the main channel knob has all you need!!)
Other than that, this amp sounds AMAZING. A shame about the faulty tubes in my unit, but I hope when I get it back, it will last longer than a few minutes of it cranked. And no, not crazy cranked, just normal cranked.
The matching cab sounds amazing btw.

KRK RP5G2 Rokit G2 5In Powered Studio Monitor (Single Speaker) Review

KRK RP5G2 Rokit G2 5In Powered Studio Monitor (Single Speaker)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These monitors are excellent for the price / size. I recommend them over other brands in the same price range. Flat response, clean bass, adjustable highs and 3 input options (xlr, 1/4", and RCA). They get nice and loud, without being harsh on the ears. Bought them over the M-audio bx series and mackie powered 5s. Very happy with the purchase... No complaints!

Click Here to see more reviews about: KRK RP5G2 Rokit G2 5In Powered Studio Monitor (Single Speaker)

The KRK RokitG2 Series takes value-priced monitors to a new performance level. All of the great stuff that Rokit's have been known for (front-firing bass port, soft-domed tweeter, glass aramid composite yellow cone) are still there, but the G2 Rokit's feature refined voicing and a new curved baffle that looks great, reduces diffraction and provides even better monitoring accuracy.

No Pain With Gain Why compromise gain structure to achieve a comfortable listening level? As musicians and recording people ourselves, we've asked that question too. So each Generation 2 Rokit comes with an Input Volume Control that provides an adjustable gain range from +6dB to -30dB. Just another way the Rokit lets you focus on your mix, and not on compatibility concerns.
Catch a Wave, for a 3D Mix Recessed tweeters may look the same, but they don't perform the same. KRK has designed a superior tweeter wave guide for the Rokit that provides optimal high frequency pattern control and focuses the sound outward, away from the cabinet. More conventional designs direct sound along the plane of the cabinet where waveform interaction can cause phase problems and increased diffraction. KRK knows a properly engineered high frequency wave guide is a critical component to great sound, and one key to our award winning performance.
You've Got Connections At KRK our focus is your mix. But it doesn't stop at creating accurate monitors. We live this stuff and appreciate the need for monitors that not only sound great but work easily into your particular set up. That's why you'll find plenty of input options with your Rokit, sure to accommodate any studio environment. So if it's RCA, Quarter-Inch (balanced/unbalanced) or XLR inputs you require, Rokit has got you covered.
Even More Accurate Than Before We took a great monitor series and made it better. Our engineers and listening panel took the Generation 2 Rokits' speaker voicing to even more accurate levels. What you hear is what you are intended to hear, coloration is not part of the spec. This performance is brought to you by drivers that are custom-designed by our world-class studio monitor engineering team, for clear, low-distortion performance.
Take Control While your Generation 2 Rokit leaves the factory voiced to our demanding specs, KRK also knows that no two rooms "sound" the same. As such, each Rokit comes equipped with a High Frequency Level Control. This feature provides specific adjustment of high frequency output most commonly affected by room acoustics. It's just one extra level of control that KRK gives you to ensure the most accurate mix for your particular room's acoustics.
Don't Be Square, Curves Ahead Our new Rokit looks different, so it can sound better, and in a wider "sweet spot." Traditional rectangular speakers suffer from diffraction as sounds leaving the edge of the cabinet are reflected back into the original sound field, and at different time intervals. This phase distortion creates a "narrow" or boxy" sound. The Generation 2 Rokit series eliminates this issue with radically engineered curved surfaces, so diffraction is virtually eliminated. Simply put, you'll get better sound in a wider area.
Let's Be Up Front Take a look at competitive monitors and you'll find ports on the back of the cabinet. These rear-firing ports tend create bass coupling with walls and corners amplifying low frequency information which will color your mix. The superior design of the KRK Generation 2 Rokit's include front-firing ports, which are just the right shape and taper to reduce port turbulence. You'll appreciate the clean and accurate bass performance, this approach delivers, even at high SPL's.
Power Up! A great sounding monitor doesn't stop with a great cabinet and custom drivers. Our true bi-amplified amplifier system provides discrete low-distortion power for each driver. While our active crossover systems provide smooth and accurate frequency response, and again, accurate diffraction control.
KRK Rokit 5 Specs

TC-Helicon VSM-300XT, Active VoiceSolo Monitor with Comprehensive I/O, 2 Band EQ with Microphone Shape Contour and Mix, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I play in the Austin TX area with a multitude of Acts. The scene is chaotic at best. Most of the time there is no control over what is in the monitor mix. (If there is one at all) Often using substandard equipment. The first night I used it, I noticed a difference right away on the drive home noting that I was not horse. I've been using it for about three weeks now and I've grown quite addicted to it. I also have used it for a fiddle monitor as well. I find the instrument input a bit weak. I usually have to have almost all the way up compared to the vocal level. (I am using a preamp) I also would like to have a three band EQ instead of a a two band EQ. For my ear, the mid level can make or break an effective monitor tone. (speaking in general, not just about this monitor.) If the mid level is not right, then often you have to turn the monitor up louder to hear yourself. A good mid level can mean keeping the volume down. In the end, I am happy with this purchase and would recommend this to others.

Line 6 Vetta II Combo Amp Review

Line 6 Vetta II Combo Amp
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This amp has servered me well, I still use it extensively for live performances as well as recording. I bought it back in 2004 and it's still going strong.
The paragraph below is basically the same review I posted on Musicians Friend back in 2006.
This amp has all the features I've ever wanted and a lot more. If you're a mad scientist type that likes experimenting, then you will love this amp. If you're someone that doesn't like messing around with a lot of knobs and settings, then this is not the amp for you, buy a Fender twin or a Marshall half and be done with it. While the Vetta II alone offers a lot of capabilities I do recommend the FBV floorboard and Variax guitar if your budget permits. The value of being able change your amp and guitar models with a single click of a footswitch is worth the price of admission IMHO. Before I had the Vetta II and Variax I can't tell you how many times I wished for this capability while switching guitars between songs at a gig. The only issue I've had with this amp is it's susceptibility to power surges. It used to reset itself on me during rehearsals but since then, I've always plugged it into a surge protector and it's never reset on me during a gig.

Replacement Strat Parts Kit Black Review

Replacement Strat Parts Kit Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this set to finish a guitar that I am building from scratch. At first glance, it looks like a great deal. I ordered this kit and immediately contacted the vendor (WD Music) with a question. I asked if the pickguard, trem cover, knobs, etc. were black and if they were not could they sub black. The response I got was that no, they are white and that if I had wanted them black, I should have called in the order and that it was too late now to do anything.
5 days later the box arrived at my door. It was very well packed and complete with all the parts described. The pickguard was pre-wired and ready to go. There were not any instruction sheets what-so-ever. I have to say that I was less than pleased with the quality of the items. The tuners are very cheap Kluson Delux machines with plastic knobs. The pickguard is a white-black-white and is of decent quality. Pickups are Kent Armstrong, and the jury's still out on those. Cord jack and strap buttons are low quality and a dingy satin black finish. The tremolo is also the same dingy satin black and seems to be low to medium quality. The "extra parts" are lowest-of-low quality and include 2 screwdrivers a super cheap string winder, strings, polishing cloth and cord.
In all, for half the price it would be an ok set, for $250, it's not.

Raxxess ER1216 Sloped Studio Rack with Casters (12 over 16 Space, Black Oak) Review

Raxxess ER1216 Sloped Studio Rack with Casters (12 over 16 Space, Black Oak)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I never expect much from knockdown furniture, but I was still disappointed. I had two big issues with this product. The first issue is a problem with the side pieces. The holes for the rails have pilot holes, which is good. The problem was that both sides were drilled the same. The pilot holes were drilled on both pieces as if they were both for the left side. Unfortunately, I didn't realize the problem until after I had the rails installed. The instructions have you install the rails on the side boards before assembling the cabinet. There's really no reason for that and I would have noticed the problem if I had put the cabinet together first. If I had noticed the problem before hand, I could have easily drilled the pilot hole all the way through the side and corrected the problem. That's how I ended up fixing it, but now I have ugly holes on the right side of the rack that are very visible.
The other problem is that there aren't enough screws to complete assembly. The screws supplied fit both the rails and the casters. There's not enough included to secure both. I had to go buy more to secure the rails properly. I checked the packaging and I received the number of screws they specied, but if you put a screw in each pilot hole they pre-drilled, they are short about 6 screws.
Aside from my extra holes ... the completed assembly looks pretty good. They did a god job on the laminating in that only the back edge of the pressboard is left exposed. They also provide black covers for the screws. Be aware that this rack has a front rail only, so if you are mounting something heavy you'll need to put those items on the very bottom so that you have the bottom of the rack for support.
For some reason, the product picture has changed since I order. This rack has the top portion of the rack sloped. The current picture is just a standard rectangle rack. Be sure you know what you're ordering.
