(More customer reviews)I bought this when my 10+ year old Ebtech died from a leaky battery. Since it's a sealed unit (riveted instead of screwed together) it was not salvageable.
Other reviewers have indicated they felt this Pyle-Pro device feels less sturdy than the Ebtech. I would respectfully disagree - the connectors are equivalent and the case material measures within .002" of the same thickness as the Ebtech shell.
Pros:
1. Tests all the most used connectors in the SR business.
2. Generic continuity tester via banana plugs.
3. Easy batter replacement.
4. Usage instructions printed on the face of the device.
5. No "ON/OFF" buttons needed. My old Ebtech used to get turned on accidentally in my case and, when needed, the battery was dead.
Cons:
1. Does not have active signal generation for testing various cables and devices i.e. speakers, mixer channels, etc...
2. Not as fast to diagnose problems as the Ebtech - requires investigation of each conductor instead of the Ebtech's matrix of LEDs.
3. LEDs are VERY bright - can be annoying in show situations where you don't want to "glow" from your test equipment.
4. A bit large. I ended up using its box as a case within my mixer briefcase. Keeps it from getting bumped around against all the other stuff.
Bottom line: very useful and well designed device for testing a very large array of cables. Still young (
