I received this cool looking mic before xmas. Besides it's cool looks this is a wonderful sounding mic. Mine came with it's own response curves. Only seen that in higher end mics. I sing with a barbershop quartet as well as a vocal jazz ensemble. I have been using condenser mics for years and have always had to roll back the crispy top end. Not so with the Fathead. For my voice (baritone/tenor) no EQ was needed. For the first time when I record my voice it sounds like me. No artificial top end. My mistake was not buying the Blumlein pair. Guess I need to order a second Fathead. I would recommend this mic to anyone, pro or otherwise, who wants to add a natural sounding ribbon mic to their arsenal. For fun I popped it infront of my guitar amp and cranked the 'bejaysus' out of it (amp that is). When I played it back I was stunned by the heavy crunch without the irritating highs. This is an excellent mic especially for the price.

Unlike most ribbon motors designed today with an offset ribbon the new Cascade FAT HEAD houses a hand-tuned ribbon element that incorporates the legendary symmetrical ribbon design. This design offers a true figure 8 pattern. The corrugated aluminum membrane itself is positioned in the center from front to back, thus producing a balanced audio input signal to both sides of the ribbon assembly. This design is very useful when executing a mid-side or Blumlein recording set-up and also great for live stage use. The FAT HEAD warm full-bodied signature and increased sensitivity is what you would expect and demand from a professional ribbon microphone and the FAT HEAD delivers. The FAT HEAD is suited for guitar cabinets, drum over-heads, vocal, piano, horns, strings, and much more.
