So I got this mini-amp since I'm currently living in a hotel and need to keep things sort of quiet. I'm playing an electric lap steel (Rogue Jersey Lightning - quite nice) and I really like the reverb and tremelo for my sound. Anyhoo, the little Hoodad is really a surprisingly nice mini-amp! I've owned the Fender Deluxe, Orange Micro Crush (very nice little amp), Pignose (one-trick pony but a good one), and the Smokey Supro, since I'm either on the road or living in hotels a lot. So the Hoodad produces a very convincing old school tube sound which reminds a bit of the old Silvertone tube amps than a Fender in that it is reminiscent of the kind of budget amps I used in my mispent youth garage bands. That said, it's a totally useful sound and with the requisite tweaking can produce a limited range of tonal colors. The echo is a quick slapback which lends the sound a reverb wash which makes the sound expand a bit. The tremelo rate is adjustable by a mini trim pot and I like it quite a bit, except that the slope isn't adjustable (it isn't adjustable on a vintage tube amp either). I like the way the twin speakers fire at about a 30 degree angle which helps disburse the sound. The clean sound is really nice and full and has enough bass end to make it musical. The crunchy sound is adjustable from a mild overdrive to a crunchier drive. Overall, this cute little amp produces a rather convincing old school tube amp sound plus it's looks are just adorable. I love it!
